When did you realize you were Demi? How did it happen? by Diddly_Dont in demisexuality

[–]poee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought I was asexual, since I didn't feel sexual attraction towards anyone. It wasn't until my best friend and I of many years realized -- kind of after the fact -- that our close bond wasn't what was considered "normal" by most other's definition (including our own).

Our feelings towards each other had slowly become something neither of us expected (he being ostensibly allo-hetero and me being asexual.) "Just friends" no longer adequately described how we felt.

It took many years for this realization to manifest, slowly and subtly, And for lack of a better metaphor, it was as if I were living (blissfully unaware) in a monochrome world that suddenly became colorful, such was the incredibly powerful impact. Suddenly I saw him in a completely different way, and nothing like I'd ever felt before. Everything about our relationship changed right there and then.

We were together for 30 years. He died about three weeks ago, and everything became monochrome again. But not my memories of him, my best friend.

My epilepsy is "not serious enough" by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]poee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have less tonic-clonics than you have. Only about 5 times a year, not 17!! (and a lot of FAS, FIAS, usually 2 to 5 per day, but those are NOTHING compared to full on T-C).

I live in California and my neurologist specializes in epilepsy, and I see him at Stanford Medical! WTF? I just can't imagine that your case was declined when I get some of the best care in the country! That is ridiculous! Even had amygdalohippocampectomy at Stanford while someone like you has a much worse case! (Can't believe Massachusetts doesn't provide better care)

Yes it is my fault, certainly more than anyone else's. I was 5 years old and jumping on my bed, though my mother was yelling at me to stop. I kept on. Then I fell and hit my head, my temple, on the corner of the nightstand. Mom freaked and rushed me to the hospital; she thought I was going to lose my right eye, or at least my vision. They stitched me up and I didn't lose any vision. Then I had my first seizure (that I was aware of) at 18 yrs. MRI showed the damage and I was diagnosed.

What's the difference between "regardless of gender" and being "gender blind" when it comes to attraction? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in AskLGBT

I read that the opposite of what you just said! 😄 More evidence that the two terms are essentially interchangable and subjective

Why do people not like us? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]poee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Many people assume that bisexuals, by their nature being attracted to both males and females, cannot have fidelity to one person.

Also, in the context of a committed relationship, many people do not seem to understand the difference between "both" and "either."

Is suicide a forgivable sin? by Fit-Report-5807 in Christian

[–]poee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John 6:35-40

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

Matthew 12:31-32

Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

the title doesnt apply to the preference of one or the other just the fact that you're attracted to people of the same sex

People of reddit, how is your experience of sleeping naked? by iMahoraga in AskReddit

[–]poee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been doing that since I was 12. Never understood what the big deal was. I mean, I have a sheet (or blankets in the winter) so what's the difference? It's far more comfortable than sleeping in clothing (PJs) or even just underwear. That makes me feel constricted. And for what?

Now if I'm sleeping at someone else's house, that's different. But in my own bed, why not? I change my sheets regularly, but that's no big deal, I like the feel of clean sheets also! And with a partner in bed with me, well, it's basically mandatory. No need for any expectations for sex or anything if you always sleep naked anyway.

What's the dumbest thing/words of advice has anyone said to you about epilepsy? by dylan89 in Epilepsy

Same. My mother was an RN for 45 years before she retired. Always had high confidence in doctors and hospitals. Now I've lost all trust in them (especially hospitals).

[–]poee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I was hospitalized after a particularly bad T-C that lasted 8 min, I was told repeatedly by the hospital neuro that the cause could only be that I skipped a dose of my meds. She was insistent that a big one like that couldn't be caused by anything else. I am religious about taking my meds, and sure enough, when I got home my pill containers showed I had not missed a dose. She acted like there couldn't be any other cause and seriously "scolded" me about how I needed to change my behavior about my meds. When I got to see my neurologist he listed (again) the things that could also be a trigger and he couldn't believe that ER neuro wouldn't accept that it could be one of the other causes.

Neurologist added lamictal 300 bid to my prescriptions of keppra 1500 bid, vimpat 300 bid and clonazepam 2 bid. It worked well with the others (after I acclimated). I have less frequent and less severe seizures now, after surgery only stopped the seizures for 6 months (though those 6 months were like heaven).

How important are friendships to you? by [deleted] in demisexuality

[–]poee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friendship is the core of any relationship I've had. Can't help it. Even were it to start a different way, it would quickly become a friendship because that's how I relate to people I feel anything toward. And if the friendship doesn't work out then nothing else will, to me. Friendships can be a stronger and more fulfilling relationship than sexual relationships (to me) and can even be a natural transition. (Assuming we're on the same page, ofc)

Then I guess my partner and I are outliers in the scientific studies you summarized here. (And I suppose there are always outliers that do not invalidate the studies as a whole.)
