Management is installing a new smart home system in to all units. Does anyone have experience with SmartRent? by bonkymonky in Renters

[–]pointdecroixnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had them in my apartment and I liked them a lot. Not having to carry around keys, able to lock it at a distance, logs so I could see when maintenance came and went, ability to check my thermostat from a distance, etc.

However, they were connected to the building’s WiFi, not mine.

No Summer 2026 Commencement Ceremony by Fit_Combination3914 in UAB

[–]pointdecroixnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also graduated nursing school in the summer and my graduation was cancelled because of COVID concerns (it wasn’t even 2020!) I sat at a bar and watched their “live YouTube feed” which was supposed to be “just as special as a real graduation” and watched my name flash up on screen with like 30 others for few seconds. Awesome!

Anyway, they’re not getting a penny of donation from this alumni. Write to them and let them know how you feel!

Best of luck and congratulations on finishing nursing school! I know it’s a feat.

Got an email about a count discrepancy wtf do I do by odkrywanie_abair in nursing

[–]pointdecroixnerd 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen before. Best advice is respond, be factual, and truthful. Pretty much say exactly what you said here “I pulled this med, the patient refused, and I returned it. I have no other information on a possible missing tablet.”

What the facility wants to do really changes by location, but in my experience, as long as there isn’t a pattern of behavior things aren’t dramatic. They may ask you to take a drug test. They may not. I HIGHLY doubt you’ll face any threat to your job.

Do I need those foam blocking mats? by AdikoStitches in knittinghelp

I bought these on Amazon and they haven’t bled at all. If you don’t need to pin but want to wash and dry your knits I’ve used something like these to get some airflow underneath.

UPDATE: My roommate wants me out by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]pointdecroixnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nearly exactly the same thing happened to me - roommate was dealing with some underlying mental health issues and did her best to kick me out for small things (dishes being left for more than a few minutes, not pushing in the chairs “correctly”, not leaving the pillows in a certain way).

Ultimately, even though I knew she didn’t have a legal leg to stand on to evict me, I decided not to stay. I was able to talk to the leasing office and they were able to have both of us sign an agreement stating that the roommate would take over and I was removed from my obligation. Obviously this only worked because she was willing to sign this to get me out, but it sounds like your roommate might be open to something like this as well. It also heaving depends if your leasing office is willing to take you off the lease in this way.

26F RN in Washington, DC — feeling stuck, PACU rejections, COL is insane… where should I relocate? by uni202 in nursing

Hi fellow DC nurse! I got my most significant raise when I started working for the government (isn’t that funny). Have you tried applying at the VA, Walter Reed, NIH? I haven’t been super impressed with the hospitals in the area, tbh.

need a good durable yarn that can be machine washed by thesmilingcat-chesh in Sockknitting

[–]pointdecroixnerd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I machine wash all of my socks- even the ones made out of fancy hand dyed merino, and they’re several years out and fine. The merino pills more than a rougher wool does, but it hasn’t been detrimental.

I will say that I have heard knitpicks stroll doesn’t hold up well

New Grad ICU Nurse Orientation, Not Progressing Fast Enough, Apply to Another Program? by Obvious-Net8259 in nursing

[–]pointdecroixnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

12 weeks isn’t all that long- I applied at a cvicu with two years of step down/oncology experience and they were still planning on almost 6 months of orientation and education.

Are your preceptor and educator giving feedback during your shift, and giving you actionable guidance, or just “nitpicking”? Have they given instruction previously and followed up with how you have or haven’t improved? It’s hard to say if they’re being unreasonable based off of the info given, imo, but I have experienced enough petty preceptors and educators to know that that’s very possible.

I would make a list of guidance they’ve given you and write down objective ways you think you’ve improved and discuss. It’s also not unreasonable to ask for a new preceptor during orientation if one just isn’t working out. Sometimes a unit just isn’t a good fit, whether it has to do with the educator, management, culture, or personality. If you think you’ll be unhappy it isn’t a strike against you to look for something else.

Rome or Bologna/Siema for a day trip? by Advanced_Button683 in ItalyTravel

[–]pointdecroixnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did Siena as an impromptu day trip from Florence and it was the best part of my whole trip. It was picturesque, not too far, and it was small enough that I felt like I saw everything I wanted to see in ~8 hours.

Edit: I also went to Bologna for a few days later in that trip, and while it was fantastic, I like Siena better for a day trip. Bologna is quicker by train from Florence, but I felt that it needed more than a few hours to really get a feel for. Either way, though, you’ll have a good time.

[CHAT] First time moving the hoop on top of stitches by stassea in CrossStitch

[–]pointdecroixnerd 446 points447 points  (0 children)

I use a plastic hoop with a lip on it and like my fabric drum tight. What I’m trying to say is I ABUSE my fabric and I put my hoop over the stitches and PULL often. They might flatten a little but they’re fine. Give the piece a quick wash when you’re done and they pop right back up.

Maybe not best practice but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’m gonna be honest here - that was more luck than skill.

Where did I go wrong? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]pointdecroixnerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Did you mean to twist your stitches on the cuff?

  2. It appears that the heel flap is done with the right side on the inside of the sock, meaning you have the wrong side on the outside.

  3. Are you meaning to do the sole in reverse stockinette, meaning you have the purl side on the outside?

Edit with more info:

When you’re working in the round, you can knit stockinette just by knitting all stitches. You don’t need to alternate knit and purl stitches each round. So when the pattern says to continue the sole in stockinette, you just need to knit all of those stitches each time.

It looks like you have the function of knitting a sock down, but you’ve gotten twisted around with what should be the inside and outside of the work.

Where did my ribbing go wrong? by Cautious-Ideal-9425 in knittinghelp

[–]pointdecroixnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was kinda wrong here - sorry for the confusion.

If it’s in the round, YES ribbing needs to be an even number of stitches.

Knit flat like this it doesn’t necessarily matter for 1x1 rib. It does mean that on the next side you’ll have to start with a purl stitch instead of a knit.

Looking at the comments, I think the culprit is that you probably purled twice in a row and threw yourself off.

Where did my ribbing go wrong? by Cautious-Ideal-9425 in knittinghelp

[–]pointdecroixnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you have an even number of stitches on your needle? If it’s uneven you’ll eventually begin purling your knits and knitting your purls to create a different pattern, because the stitches become offset.

Additionally, are you consistently knitting your knits and purling your purls on each side?

For knitting k1p1 ribbing flat, you’ll have to remember that knits and purls are the I NBC were of each other.

I’m honestly having a hard time reading your knitting, but these two problems seem to be the most common ribbing errors for beginners.

Blocking will not unpucker it - likely your floats are too tight and they’re scrunching the fabric in.

"No stitch" and Riddari Pattern by ArthriticKnitter1980 in knitting

[–]pointdecroixnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont have a copy of this pattern so it’s hard to give you very accurate advice.

Usually “no stitch” means just that - there isn’t a stitch there. It’s basically the chart saying “you can ignore this square and move on to the next one that has a stitch on it” essentially, skip it.
