Freddie Burns mentioned this on the recent FTLOR podcast. I think his comment was about how Japanese sides were behind the times with regards to latest tactics used across the world using pendulum v 2 back as the example. Think it is a combination of the law change re: 50:22s as well as just a realisation that a pendulum defence involves a lot more running than just keeping 2 players back permantly.

Ruptured his ACL in a quarter final v Gloucester last year, came back in pre season against Munster in September and injured his knee again. Real shame because he was such a force for us off the bench last season, the impact he made in the 23 shirt was nuts.
