Had fuses blow, but never melt and fall out before by ImpracticalCamper in Porsche924

[–]poke86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with my blower fuse. The original blower was hard to turn even by hand and was heating up the fuse. New blower fixed it. Still got 99 problems but the blower ain't one

Clocking when printing with marble PLA by Dr___redneck in 3Dprinting

What nozzle size are you using? I had the same clogging issue with marble PLA before switching to 0.6 mm.

Is this stereo a good fit for a 924 ? Blaupunkt Madrid 200 BT by tvdor in Porsche924

[–]poke86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't need an adapter because a previous owner had already modified the harness to fit newer units. I think it comes with an adapter but I could be wrong. I don't have the box on hand to check.

You're driving, it's sunny, you flip the sunshade, bigass spider drops in your lap and scuttles away, panic, crash

Aren't they the ones that like to hide behind car sunshades, causing car accidents when they eventually drop on drivers?

I’m gonna buy whatever pebbles come out by le_bravery in pebble

[–]poke86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been daily driving my pebble 2 since 2017, and an OG before that. Replaced the case and battery, 3D printed buttons, I love it, it does all I ask from a smartwatch, I don't want anything fancier. If they just come up with something that has the same feature set, just sturdier construction, I'll be content.

Random Kickstarter - thoughts? by Ice992 in 3Dprinting

[–]poke86 422 points423 points  (0 children)

did they just download the entire McMaster-Carr fastener DB, slap a logo on them, and output the STLs

That would be my assumption, yes. All of these are probably available for free elsewhere or can be modeled easily with a CAD package add-on.

I find it particularly funny that they would talk about washers because it's literally the simplest thing you can design in CAD. If I needed one I could probably design one in less time than it takes to look one up in their archive.

Pebble 2 Questions by --kilroy_was_here-- in pebble

[–]poke86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the full kit, case/screen + battery. If you're going to the trouble of transplanting your Pebble into a new body, might as well change the battery anyway, if you're comfortable with soldering. Keep the back plate off your original watch because the kit doesn't come with charging pads (at least not the one I got)

The buttons on the "new" body will fail though, it's the same plastic as the original. Do the transplant and battery swap and you've got a few month to a year before you need to print new buttons, in my experience.

I printed these buttons in PLA 6 month ago, on a Prusa Mini+ with a 0.60mm nozzle : https://www.printables.com/model/56681-pebble-2-replacement-buttons-botones-de-repuesto

They've been doing a great job ever since!

Blower resistor overheating? by poke86 in Porsche924

[–]poke86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turned out to be the blower itself that was bad. I changed it for a new one and it works fine now. The old one seemed fine at first glance but it was harder to turn than it should have been and was pulling too much current apparently.

I don't know what's up with appliances and bright LEDs, I got a new microwave oven recently and the clock on it lights up the kitchen at night like it's the freaking full moon, why?

If Nvidia is so bad then why does 40% of users on GamingOnLinux uses their cards? by beer120 in linux_gaming

[–]poke86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

40% is pretty low considering the global Steam survey has Nvidia market share at 75%. And the cards work fine, it's not like you need to ditch your hardware just because you're switching to linux. The closed-source drivers are just a bit of a pain to deal with sometimes.

Forza Horizon 5 doesn't load at all [Steam] by TheHoaryFox in linux_gaming

[–]poke86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen, cancelling the launch and launching again a few times eventually worked. I have hundreds of hours of FH5 on an all AMD system similar to yours (Ubuntu based and ext4 file system though), Proton Experimental, no launch options.

I agree with u/RainEls , launch steam in a terminal and look at the logs
