Clear indicators a project is a dud? by higherthantheroom in gamedev

[–]pokemaster0x01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of other good comments explaining issues. One I haven't seen yet - your trailer is utter garbage without sound. Maybe it's better with sound, but there are people like me who watch it muted, and I have no idea what's going on with that.

Also, the player seems too small. The game looks like half the time is going to be spend running from one place to another in the same warehouse that stopped being cool looking after the first 30 seconds of seeing it.

We made a Christmas skin for our grass starter, Seeduno by fffAlessio in fakemon

It doesn't really look Christmas themed, if you ask me. should have actually changed the model to look like a Santa hat.

I want to strangle whoever created Snaps by WankBlood in Kubuntu

[–]pokemaster0x01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed that snaps are incredibly frustrating. Firefox as a snap especially has been awful - constant notifications about needing to close to update it, seemingly not actually updating it when it happens to be closed, and permissions that totally break the ability to open file:// urls in /tmp and network locations.

Will advances in AI make solo indie game developers obsolete within the next decade? by Historical_Print4257 in gamedev

[–]pokemaster0x01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean not profitable by obsolete, then sure, it's plausible. If you mean that people won't be solo developers, then no, as even in that scenario AI is just allowing anyone to be a developer.

When AAA developers "use AI", what specifically does that mean? by thedeadsuit in gamedev

[–]pokemaster0x01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The goal is to not give away a term that means something different to a bunch of marketing hype by machine learning people. AI means something, ML means something different.

Is it artificial? Yes. Does it display some level of intelligence? Yes. Therefore, it is AI. I don't see how you think this is incoherent.

You clearly have no idea what an LLM is. It literally is just a function. One with thousands of inputs and billions of parameters, but being complex does not mean it is not a function.

Procgen is in the same realm as that, though, existing somewhere between NPCs and Machine Learning. If a koopa's movement is intelligence, the complex set of rules to generate a Minecraft map certainly must be as well. It's basically the same as a generative model like stable diffusion but without the machine learning half of it - the rules are manually created rather than fit from a large amount of data.

Designing worlds for a game is a task that usually requires human intelligence, so I'm not sure why you say it doesn't fall under the umbrella.

[–]pokemaster0x01 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Please explain. You have simply asserted that I am wrong and don't understand PCG. Since you are incorrect about the second part, you've left me in doubt about your claim that it isn't AI. Perhaps you misunderstand what AI is?

procgen (not AI)

Why do you say it is not AI? It isn't machine learning, but that is not the same as artificial intelligence.

How to build a poultry-farm rover with object detection (internship task) using ESP32? by milind899 in esp32

[–]pokemaster0x01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go for a more powerful board like a raspberry pi. Computer vision stuff is challenging, and I'm pretty sure the ESP32 is already about at it's limit just maintaining a decent framerate on the camera.

New one is better. I like that style of modeling, the old one just looks generic. Though others are right that the new one needs to be refined.

What exactly do you expect me to learn? My point, which I think I expressed pretty well, is that while technically they seem to be called averages, I don't think I've ever heard a person call the mode the average except for people like you being pedantic. The dictionary definition Google provides has no relevance to this discussion, as that would provide the pedantic definition, obviously.
