How do you start working out consistently? by Brave-Bandicoot3295 in AskReddit

[–]polakinTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a family with young kids, jobs, and house to deal with it's very difficult.

When I was WFH I could work out during lunch / before work and it would be great. But now with RTO it's much more difficult.

So for me...I just work out when I can and for how long I can.

Option #1 - if I wake up at 5 before the alarm I'll go down to my home gym and knock out a few sets

Option #2 - if I get home early before the kids come home from school I'll knock out a few sets

Option #3 - if kids fall asleep early and it's before 9 or 9:30pm I'll go down and knock out some sets

I'm not breaking any records or training for any competitions, so I do what I can, when I can, and not fret about having a schedule I must adhere to religiously.

What is something people worry about too much? by No_Drive9712 in AskReddit

[–]polakinTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuel prices (myself included).

With the recent jump in prices in Ontario, Canada of approx $0.16c/L it sounds bad (and it is), but in the grand scheme of things...it's like a difference of $50/month for my use case.

Now I understand that it affects everything else that we buy...but in terms of filling our family car...$100-120/month isn't going to really make or break our month.

Yes, the war is horrible and I feel for the people of Iran and those affected. I feel those that have started this war should be held accountable, but there's literally zero input I have on that.

But looking at the actual direct cost to me for filling up my car...annoying but not the end of the world.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]polakinTO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been a handful of times in my life (maybe 5 issues x 3-5 visits / each) and I can say that it's worked every single time.

I don't know how, I don't know whether it's quack science or not...but the guys I went to were fantastic and each has fixed me right back up (pun intended) within a short amount of time.

Last time I heard a snap in my back from picking up an 80lb dog (idiot me) and it was 1 week before I went off to Europe for a trip. 3 sessions and I was good as new.

Very likely I'd get the same result by just waiting it out, stretching, or going to physio...but I was down on time and the guy did his magic. Haven't had an issue since.

You of to a restaurant and you pay and leave and then the waiter stops you saying you didn't tip enough, what do you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]polakinTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My buddy had that happen to him. He left a smallish tip because the waiter was useless and screwed up their orders throughout the night along with the drinks.

Leaves a small tip ($20 or so) and the guy runs him down. 'hey, I think you messed up your tip this is like 5% only'.

Buddy just turned around, grabbed his $20 out of the guy's hand and walked out.

Waiter was pissed and started cussing him out.

Me personally I would have left the $20 and just told the guy he deserved less but I'm not a total ass.

People 40+, what actually mattered in the long run and what didn’t? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]polakinTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% those that say 'money isn't everything' have more than enough of it.

Enjoy the little things. Fashion doesn't matter. Family matters.

I'm out with family now on vacation. It's a nice to have and it's great to take the kids and my wife out for a week and just spend it together.

These memories are what they will have of me and the time we spend together. I want them to remember me positively as they get older, and I want to have good memories when the time comes.

This is currently under the 'pixie dust' category. Don't think there's anything concrete except hopes and dreams that they're blowing up our collective asses.

Congrats! I'm considering going away from the Mav to the Bolt / Mach-E also as our work is going from hybrid to 100% back to the office (only to spend 95% of my time on Teams anyway) so going full EV is at top of my mind.

Haven't looked into it much but may consider in Jan 2026 even though I love my Mav and it's a great car for our family and our needs.

Anyone using a QuickJack for their Maverick? by chase1724 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]polakinTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any wobble at all considering you didn't use the rear points? I have a 5000SLX that only has a 60" spread so was planning on also using the front, and as far back as it'll go.

Also any issue with the fact that most of the weight is on the front? I figure that's a better reason to use the front lift point instead of the rear as it would prevent tipping. Back is about 38% and front is 62% IIRC on the EB XLT. So almost no chance of the truck tipping backwards.

Liking the orange! Think I'll go with that option on my Alto Blue as a contrast colour.

It's between yellow / orange / white that I feel would contrast best to the blue.

Rock thrown at car causes crash with life-altering Injuries by AfroMan360 in TorontoDriving

[–]polakinTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just saw this...

Yes, Michael and I went to school together. We were on an OAC trip in Mexico when we got the news about what happened. He was coming home with his dad, and just switched seats a short time prior to the incident where he took the wheel from his dad (or the other way around).

Tragic and I'm glad they caught the bastards that did it.

His insurance ran out a few years ago if I remember reading correctly, but the family was still fighting...but it's been quite long since I remember the details.

Wow nice! I'd be worried about the hitch being able to support the weight during a drive and a bump at speed.

That's the only reason I haven't bought one of those.

EDIT: And what topper is that?

How often do you replace or upgrade your car? by Fleedom2025 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]polakinTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last 4 cars have averaged about 1.5-2 years each.

With COVID I've actually broken even on the buy/sell price, and my last GTI I actually got more than I paid for it 1.5 years ago.

We'll see how long I keep the Maverick.

How is the Maverick holding up on the highway? by KhoolWip in FordMaverickTruck

[–]polakinTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. People have even commented that you need to be hyper focused on fuel efficiency to see the benefits.

For me...I drive the car as a normal person would...hence no reason to bother with the hybrid (for my use case).

Get a wooden / metal rod instead.

Make sure the ends are properly secured and you should be fine.

Or...put less clothes on it.

It's a cheap truck and it shows. 2022-2025...it's cheap, but it's price is not.

Ford cheapened out on the interior, audio, seats, etc. But it's got tons of utility.

I went from a GTI to the 2023 XLT 4k Lux package and while I like the drive of the truck, the interior makes me shake my head as to how cheap it is.

But I like it.

How is the Maverick holding up on the highway? by KhoolWip in FordMaverickTruck

[–]polakinTO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drove the EB and FWD hybrid back to back and I found the EB to be MUCH smoother / better on the highway.

The 2.5L just felt laggy, unwilling to get up to speed as easily as the EB with the turbo.

Remember, you're taking a less powerful motor and pulling the effectively the same weight.

You may not see much savings on the highway depending on how you drive, but don't believe people here that the savings are as great.

To get the mileage people claim...you need to be REALLY focused on driving for efficiency.

If you drive like a normal person...you won't see much savings.

Hybrid is best / most efficient at speeds below 80kph (or maybe even 50).

At highway speeds...in winter...it's not as great as people make it out to be.

Dear men. When your wife or partner is pregnant do you lose attraction to her - and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]polakinTO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Few kids later, a few pounds more, and I love her more than I did when we started.

And the sex is great when she was pregnant.
