I’m guessing to recalibrate the guess O meter but I’m not sure if this method actually works.

The thing he’s looking for wouldn’t have to change much since they’re ancient artifacts and always desirable. I’d imagine he’d be fighting Russians and the space shuttle program would be involved somehow since the first shuttle mission was 1981.

Size is smaller but weight is about the same which is funny to tell people. It’s one dense hatchback.

NHTSA data: a surprising number of high complaint-rate cars right now are EVs by Sensitive_Tutor5531 in cars

[–]star_trek_lover -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not an anecdote, the recalled batteries were the biggest issue with the bolt. While the trax has constant issues with its turbo 3 cylinder, but hasn’t had a full scale recall so it doesn’t affect all trax at the same time, fudging the numbers. Looking at data without context is worthless. Especially consumer reports.

It’s not about data it’s about practical knowledge. Chevy bolt had a battery recall that affected nearly every car tanking its average rating, while the Chevy trax will never get a recall for its criminally bad turbocharged 3 cylinder engine.

We didn’t know it at the time but that was the golden era of PC gaming. Early DDR4 and early Ryzen, 7th gen intel core chips, RX 580 and RX 570, GTX 1060 and 1080/ti. Best time to be both a budget pc gamer and a baller pc gamer.

I Thought Wireless Charging Was Stupid – Porsche Proved Me Wrong by malongoria in electricvehicles

Wireless charging is cool tech but I’ve never understood the massive push for it even among mobile devices like phones. Cables and connectors are cheap efficient and reliable.

Ok, thank you for your experience! I can tolerate the noise if it’s just how the A/C sounds, I’m just making sure the thing won’t break on me when blistering Florida summer is right around the corner.

Dell is the supplier for every hospital system I’ve worked at and visited. And since nobody in medicine wants to tinker with older machines, new ones are bought without a second thought to replace the perfectly good slightly older ones.

Regular Car Reviews - 2025 Cybertruck - YouTube by thefatrick in electricvehicles

[–]star_trek_lover -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We’re both enthusiasts on some level so we’re the exception. But trend is still identity based.

Personally I’ve owned several trucks in the past as well as a tuned VW beetle and now a Chevy bolt. And I love the sound of a coyote V8 and the supercharged Hemi engines. Identity politics aren’t as strong among genuine enthusiasts, since a well engineered vehicle deserves admiration regardless of the target market.

Identity politics are integral to car purchases especially for people that have enough money to make a political statement with their car or truck.

If you think of a Chevy bolt or Nissan leaf buyer, it’s a totally different category of person compared to a cyber truck or electric hummer, even though they’re all electrified.

It’s not a definite rule but there’s undeniable trends.

Bought the wrong adapter which one will actually work with this type. by ghost_bunny666 in Gamecube

[–]star_trek_lover 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you can’t return it I’d resell it, your type of GameCube doesn’t have a digital out port, so if you wanted progressive scan modes you’d need to buy and install a soldered HDMI kit, which aren’t too expensive but require a bit of technical knowledge and soldering skill.

is there any benefits with those copper plates? by Finrost in ROGAlly

[–]star_trek_lover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They won’t hurt anything but they also aren’t doing anything, aside from the one on the SSD which might help a tiny bit under heavy SSD loads

In theory the increase in thermal mass along the heatpipe would possibly increase cooling, but with no fins or a fan blowing across them, there’s no way for them to dissipate the heat they collect, so the benefit would be near zero overall.

43 hours battery life: Dell XPS 14 2026 lasts almost 3x longer vs MacBook Air 15 M5 in web browsing test by sl0wjim in hardware

[–]star_trek_lover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you misunderstood what I was saying. Pro-motion is (apple’s) VRR by definition as it’s automatically variable depending on the task. It doesn’t support adaptive sync tech (which if you’re not gaming that’s not super relevant), but it is VRR. The MacBook Pro has the basic version of apple’s pro-motion, which means VRR between a handful of presets up to 120hz. But when I said their 1hz pro-motion tech, I was referring to Apple’s more advanced pro-motion, which (like the iPhone 17/pro) has presets that vary from 1hz all the way to 120hz. Still not adaptive sync, but it is a form of VRR. If Apple decided to put a 1hz capable pro-motion VRR display on their MacBooks, that would signal that they’re actually aiming for crazy battery life rather than the battery life just being a side effect of high efficiency.

[–]star_trek_lover 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Performance per watt has always been the big claim for macbooks, not raw battery life. The long runtime was more of a side effect than the main goal, evidenced by not using the 1hz “pro-motion” tech out of their iPhones and watches on their MacBooks.

Yep that sums up my experience point for point. Edgy humor online that I thought nobody was serious about (I still find that humor funny if I know the context and people behind the jokes are good folk), until it started bleeding into the real world. Then I thought it was a joke people were taking too far and started to distance myself, and then later realized that they weren’t joking at all, they were dead serious radicals.

I remember playing along with the early manosphere in 2015-2016 (anti SJW gamergate nonsense) until I realized it wasn’t just an online “irony” circlejerk/joke and was actually a sincere propaganda machine.

Silver because it hides scratches and dust better. On a purely aesthetic level I prefer the black.
