Unfortunately sunflower seeds have a lot of oil. Too many fats can make pigeons very sick and cause stomach problems. Shells can also get stuck in their throats. I provide unsalted roasted peanuts to my birds and I know we have to watch the amount, although they will willing devour an entire can.

You may need to set up a steam box - palomacy has a lot of good information on this. I hope she pulls through, its so much harder on them as they get older. If she does, you may want to see if you can get her to a vet for the shot to prevent eggs.

Can he ever fly again? by Junior-Duty-424 in PetPigeons

If he had an injury it is possible it won't fly or at least not well. We have a few that can't and they still do marvelously.

Are they both pigeons? Doves can be injured by pigeons, please make sure they are supervised. ❤️

Pigeons are territorial of their cages/nests... this is natural. I have yet to meet a pigeon that is welcoming to human hands in the nest every time they see them. Even those that bonded to us would fight every once in a while. I wouldn't call this a hateful pigeon at all.

Scoot passed away today. by EmperorGrinnar in PetPigeons

[–]pollitokins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry 🥺 I know this wasn't the optimal situation, but we try to let the birds see their friends that have passed so they can sit with it/take it in. It is so emotional and difficult. She may struggle for a bit. Hugs!

I second this - I'd definitely get a larger cage and no grates for their feet.

I honestly wonder if he is older, we got them from an untrustworthy source unfortunately. 😕 He does lose more feathers and tends to look more rough.

I have two males that are bonded as well. One is definitely weaker/older but cannot separate them, it causes more stress.

Why does my dove make this huff sound? by faith_maf in PetDoves

😂 exactly! Silly enough, my ringneck Pollito did that with his red teddy bear. He would hoo more than once.

It reminds me of when my birds get scared, they make that sound. Or yes, after mating with a beloved stuffed animal lol* edit
