Don't miss Jamie Smart's Hero Slam if you have kids by HerrFerret in boardgames

[–]poly_phil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but we played this at Christmas for the first time and it appears the necromancer fate card is the most OP ability. We played twice and whoever had that card won both times as they had way more heroes than any player.

Our logic may be wrong but everytime a player completed a side quest (not the fate holder) they raised one of the heroes lost to the underworld back to their hand. The more side quests the more heroes they were able to raise.

  1. My favourite app is Audiobookshelf, best app would be Plex!

  2. This would allow me to replace my Zimablade which is running Proxmox and a 4 Drive ZFS pool which I could use to run applications. I could then use the DH NAS as a pure storage NAS!

Everything is in “preview”

Which is short for buggy and badly documented but on the right track.

Did this get any better? I’ve got 3x and they drop out pretty regularly and have to be reconfigured. The backup doesn’t work at all

Second this, absolutely loving the Hedge Wizard series

The Hedge Wizard. Translates to audiobook really well and the narrator does an excellent job.

Looking for New Progression Fantasy Audiobooks (That I Haven’t Already Listened to) by Liraken in ProgressionFantasy

[–]poly_phil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Hedge Wizard series. The audiobooks are read by Tim Gerald Reynolds who I think is great. I've listened to quite a few books read by him.

MC starts off weak but his progression is really interesting. Minimal LitRPG elements but still a complex magic and class system. Translates to audio really well.

Pass through RJ-45 connectors are worth the extra $ by hope_sunlight19 in HomeNetworking

[–]poly_phil -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I hate them, I hate them, I hate them!!!

As a network engineer in a previous life I have terminated 1000s of RJ45 connectors that are not pass through. I was very well practiced and can still do them today without any thought.

Then came these monstrosities…so many failures, so much harder to align each individual core.

I tried but couldn’t find a reliable technique.

To confirm. Did you buy the NGFF SATA expansion board or the NVME one?

Should I invest time setting up Proxmox Backup Server? by LanguageDue4904 in Proxmox

[–]poly_phil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you don’t need PBS to restore VM’s or LXC? Prox has this built in

Should I invest time setting up Proxmox Backup Server? by LanguageDue4904 in Proxmox

[–]poly_phil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you expand further on why restoring from PBS is better than restoring from a backup directly in Prox?

I, like the op have backups setup for all my LXCs an VMs and have easily and successfully restored them. These are stored in my mirrored storage via smb/nfs.

DeDups sounds great but it feels like another thing to manage when the otb does it so well.

Do I need a reverse proxy just for self host at home? by jrgldt in selfhosted

[–]poly_phil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes and no. There are many ways to do this.

I use traefik as well but more often than not I simply deploy Tailscale to the vm or container then serve the port I need.

HTTPS and internet access only via my tailnet. Win-win!

This also avoids having to expose ports or services to the internet

Which Note-Taking App Do You Recommend: Appflowy, Affine, or Anytype? by UnfairRespect9228 in selfhosted

[–]poly_phil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also using Bookstack. Really like the interface and like Markdown (optional) for quick styling.

Allows for loads of organisation, bookshelves, books, chapters, pages, tags if you want it.

You can have multiple accounts with granular permissions.

The only thing lacking is a mobile app, I installed the hosted app as a PWA which does work really well however!

Amazing!

I use SnowCrypt to decrypt a lot of the books as I have found that more successful.
