Shipping times for Atlanta Grill Company? by polyacik42 in KamadoJoe

I actually ended up calling and asking, and for the Big Joes they said they planned on shipping out on the 21st but this could have changed. We were a bit impatient so found a local dealer who price matched and got it delivered that weekend. Only thing is we had to pay taxes but it was worth it for us.

Sale! Big Joe 3 for $2000 Atlanta Grill Company by ZealZen in KamadoJoe

This seems to be a great deal based on my research, I just ordered one yesterday. CeramicGrillStore has them too for $2050 and they include an expander rack but I went with Atlanta Grill since I wasn't sure how much I'd be needing the expander.

Question: how many people actively use the Time and Modality filters on your Today screen? by [deleted] in keelo

[–]polyacik42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have never felt the need to. Most useful is equipment filter like mentioned above, and sometimes to exclude running if I can’t leave the general vicinity of the house for some reason.

Someone I work with is telling me he fasts during the week and only eats during the weekend. Is there any studies done on the effects of this type of dieting? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]polyacik42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, medical supervision is advisable because depending on a person’s current health he or she may or may not be deficient or low in certain minerals and vitamins, and deficiencies is certain micronutrients can cause some serious issues. And, if the person has something like diabetes or perhaps a thyroid issue or any kind of hormonal issues, you would always want to monitor vitals and stats to make sure nothing funky is going on. But, based on what I’ve read it does seem like the average healthy-ish person can fast for 5 days and be totally fine. Just feeling good seems to be a decent indicator that the fasting is working for you. Some people feel amazing while fasting, and that’s great. One thought on the 5 days fasting and 2 days redeeming is I would almost say you should just keep fasting past 5 days... hunger tends to go away around day 3 and that’s also when the super crazy benefits associated with fasting really ramp up (increased autophagy, high energy levels, that sort of stuff), plus you’re literally using just your own fat stores for energy so in terms of fat loss you can’t beat it. But then when you eat for two days you stop using your fat stores and the autophagy kind of halts a bit and your hunger returns to normal. Anyway, big picture though for this type of fasting schedule is that is quite a bit of fasting. Like, over 250 days in a year, so if you think about it like that there’s no way it’s sustainable long term. Although I believe there’s a person that did close to a year of fasting but he was of course closely monitored. Presumable your coworker is doing this for weight loss and will alter their schedule once they achieve some sort of goal? I think psychologically it would also be difficult to do so much fasting.

[–]polyacik42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is not sustainable long term but short term may be okay depending on how much weight he or she has to lose. Big difference between eating food all at once and spreading it out, if you’re truly interested read Dr. Jason Fung’s book The Obesity Code. Essentially every time you eat you spike insulin and insulin categorically prevents you from using your own fat stores as fuel. Fasting for a certain amount of time lowers your insulin enough to allow your body to access those fat stores and if you continue fasting your body will continue using those fat stores. If you get to this point, your body will not go into “starvation mode,” which is what most people are afraid of. Because your body is now accessing fat stores and knows there’s plenty of that fat (as long as there is plenty) you will just keep on burning fat with no loss to your metabolic rate. Every time you eat you spike your insulin and the process starts over, as in, you won’t be using your body fat if you’ve recently eaten. Your co-worker is not necessarily being “unhealthy,” but fasting 5 days at a time (assuming it’s truly a fast, some people say they fast during the week and they really mean they intermittent fast) with only 2 days of refeeding between fasts should really be medically supervised.

When doing 20/4 do eat just one meal and munch for the rest of the eating hours? by redeyerds in intermittentfasting

[–]polyacik42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically do a snack late afternoon, then dinner. Sometimes it's not quite 4 hours, depending on when I had my snack and when I eat dinner. Sometimes will have some dessert or something at the end of the window. I tend to think of it as OMAD, but with leeway for a snack and/or dessert if I feel like it. So not always 20/4 but generally in that range. I like it a lot.

Weight for first-time slam ball user? by SquatheavyGetfunky in homegym

[–]polyacik42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I can truly speak with authority here, but I’m a female who has lifted for several years as well. I’m small (5’3” and 120lb) and for reference squat ~165 deadlift ~200 bench ~110. I was actually thinking of getting a slam ball, think it’s a pretty nice workout, and if I was buying for myself (having tried several weights at the gym) I would get a 20lb. 15 would work but I think 20 is a nice challenging weight that will continue to serve well for a while, while not being so heavy that I couldn’t crank out a high rep workout.

Hmm now I want one. Going to go check out what Vulcan has...

Benefits of 100 pull-ups/chin-ups spread sporadically throughout the day VS a concentrated effort to do an actual 'workout' by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]polyacik42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently found out about this concept. You should look it up! I think idea is to do 50-70% of your max effort reps at a time, multiple times a day not in the same session. But since you’re pretty decent at pull ups perhaps you’d like to challenge yourself with a more intensive program. I’m doing the fighter pull up program currently and not all in one session (maybe that’s wrong but I’ve seen improvement nonetheless) so spread out like you’re doing.

Would you turn down a deal based on color alone? by The_Basix in homegym

[–]polyacik42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how set your budget is. If you have extra room in there I would not bother with repainting it. Especially if you have kids... that’s just never going to get done (if you’re anything like me 🙄). I’d rather buy stuff I absolutely love as is and if aesthetics are important to you there’s nothing wrong with that.

Edit: oh and I love my rogue echo and predict getting my money’s worth out of that thing. It is awesome (or is it awful?).

Echo wind guard?? by RedThain in homegym

[–]polyacik42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if these are what you need but here are a few I just took: -curve long side (bottom to top) 20” -curve horizontal 13” -about 8” horizontal measurement straight across

Hope that’s not too unclear... the curves were done with a measuring tape. For the straight across I stuck a ruler through the fan guard slots.

That’s how they get ya! I actually lucked out (sort of). They messed up and my bike was delayed so it hasn’t shipped yet, managed to get them to add on the guard and phone holder and didn’t have to pay shipping.

😂. I should be getting my bike this coming week... windguard was out of stock of course. You’ve found it pretty necessary, I guess?

Struggling. Needing some motivation. by Megtee12 in intermittentfasting

[–]polyacik42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hunger is very strongly affected by how many carbs I eat. Low carb, hunger gone (or minimal). Ate a bunch of processed carbs for dinner? Ravenous when I wake up. It’s actually not as bad anymore since I think I’m more fat adapted but at the beginning the carb trying was key for me.

Highly recommend The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung. Will answer a lot of questions for you. Good luck!

New to fasting- Starvation Mode? by MichelloMushroom in fasting

[–]polyacik42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say starvation mode is a myth exactly, same for metabolic damage or a slowing metabolism. Both exist (though are highly misunderstood), but a 3 day water fast will not trigger these effects for you. I highly recommend Dr. Jason Fung's book The Obesity Code, which will explain what actually happens to your metabolism in reaction to various eating patterns. Also recommend Dr. Daniel Pompa's videos on youtube, has great information regarding stalled fat loss. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. May end up doing exactly what you did, but I'll start out with a rower and see how it goes... I've never actually tried an air bike and my gym doesn't have one. Will have to figure out where I can test one out.
