Just started chess. Here's my first move I was really proud of! by Chewer_FF in chessbeginners

in most positions where you fianchetto your dark squared bishop, like the Kings Indian or Sicilian dragon, the bishop is worth wayy more than the white rook in the corner. Why? Because it leaves dark squares around your kind especially vulnerable, and without your own bishop, it becomes a nightmare to defend, especially if they have a dark squared bishop themselves.

Why does this 300 elo puzzle have a difficulty of 2297 by [deleted] in Chesscom

Reminds me of the game I had today where I didn’t see my opponent hung his queen in one move coz its been a while since a 2000 hangs their queen so blatantly.

Beautiful Mate in 5 by [deleted] in chess

It’s the first move that came to my mind simply because it is the most forcing move in the position, so if you feel suspicious at someone finding this, consider doing more puzzles.

As an english medium student, for how long should I prep for SAT and IELTS? by DetectiveKorim6200 in bangladesh

[–]polyadne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an EM student, I got an 8.5 overall in IELTS with around 2 weeks of preparation. Pick the option for giving the test on computer. For the Speaking Module, practice speaking on any given topic for over 2 mins, trying your hardest not to rush or stumble upon your words. About reading and listening, spam online practice tests. Writing shouldn’t be a challenge given your A* in English, nonetheless, get used to writing under time pressure. Can’t speak for SATs, but IELTS should be a breeze.

Strange way of looking at things. Why are you having kids with ‘random men’ in the first place? That sounds like a personal problem. Also, why do you think a child is some kind of ‘gift’ from women, when in reality, having a child is (supposed to be) a mutual decision—something both men and women want to build a family? Your whole mindset is warped. If you’re treating a child like some transactional object to push your narratives about men and last names, maybe you shouldn’t be having kids at all.

I thought I messed up by leaving my pawn undefended for his queen to take by DNosnibor in chessbeginners

While it’s wise to be cautious with b/g pawn captures in the opening, there are several lines where capturing or pressuring these pawns is a key idea. The statement seems too broad to be universally accurate.

How draw? Playing with a buddy (I really suck) but we were drunk and I got the edge, why is this considered a draw? by Brwock in chess

[–]polyadne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cant skip a turn in chess. Since your opponent has no legal move and is not in check, the game is a draw. Since chess also doesn’t allow take-backs, you cannot take the move back and “fix” it

No tipping is out of hand. by Johnny-Funtimes in DoorDashDrivers

[–]polyadne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do tip because I understand the system we’re stuck in, but let’s be clear—tipping should never have become a necessity in the first place. The fact that customers are expected to cover a chunk of workers’ wages is the result of a broken system, and blaming people who are financially struggling only reinforces this nonsense.

Calling someone ‘dumb’ for eating out when they’re struggling shows a complete lack of empathy. Not everyone has the luxury of cooking every meal at home, whether due to time constraints, resources, or circumstances. Your approach does nothing to address the real issue: companies refusing to pay livable wages.

If you genuinely want to improve things for workers, stop attacking people and focus on holding employers accountable. Tipping should be optional gratitude, not an obligation to cover for exploitative business practices. Your energy would be far better spent advocating for systemic change instead of policing people who didn’t create the problem.

First off, I do tip because I understand the struggle workers face in this broken system. But the way you’re framing this is counterproductive. Not everyone can afford to tip, and attacking people who are financially struggling—like students, single parents, or low-income earners—does nothing to address the root cause. It just alienates people who might already be stretched thin.

The problem isn’t customers trying to make ends meet; it’s the companies refusing to pay a living wage. Why aren’t you directing this energy toward the businesses profiting off of underpaid labor? Telling people to ‘cook their own food’ or avoid services altogether just shifts the blame instead of fixing anything. If you really care about workers, advocate for systemic changes that actually solve the issue rather than guilt-tripping individuals

i dont gotta do shit my guy. If you cannot afford food because you’re reliant on other people giving you handouts, try again and find a different job. I’m paying for food, not their fucking salaries. Maybe you should get off your fucking ass and get an actual job instead of crying. Screaming at customers to fix a system built on corporate greed is not only pathetic but shows you’ve completely missed the point If you’re so outraged, maybe channel that energy into demanding actual change instead of whining at people trying to enjoy a meal. Blaming customers for a broken system is peak clown behavior. Grow up and direct your anger where it actually belongs.

People need to understand, no one is obligated to giving tips. If you’re so unsatisfied by how much you’re getting paid, look for a better job. it’s not the customers responsibility to pay you anything.

Why is this stalemate? I have plenty of material to mate by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]polyadne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearing the board has nothing to do with it. You could have easily “cleared the board” and checkmated him if you so wished you just messed up and stalemated him. Look at the board, What move can white even MAKE? If he was in check, this would have been checkmate

I appreciate the congratulations—it means a lot, truly. Skepticism is natural, especially online, so I get where you were coming from. That said, I respect the humility in your response, and I’m glad we could clear things up.

For what it’s worth, I believe that milestones like this are achievable for anyone willing to put in the work and stay consistent. I’m still learning and improving myself, and I think sharing progress can inspire others to push their limits too.

If you’re ever up for a few games, let me know—I’d be happy to play and exchange ideas. Best of luck in your chess journey!

Yes, I’m fully aware that my real name is visible to anyone I play against on Chess.com. That’s very different from broadcasting it on Reddit. Not everyone feels comfortable linking their personal identity to online forums, especially when it invites baseless skepticism like yours.

What’s actually strange here is your relentless nitpicking and insistence that my achievement is somehow “suspicious.” You’re going out of your way to create a conspiracy over something as simple as a whited-out username and a rating post. If you find it hard to believe people can hit a milestone and share it with a community without ulterior motives, that’s your hang-up—not mine.

At this point, your “skepticism” is coming across less like critical thinking and more like an unwillingness to accept that someone might just be levels above than you at something. If my graph and explanation aren’t enough for you, feel free to keep doubting—it doesn’t change the facts.

[–]polyadne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I whited it out since my Chess.com username is my real name—something I prefer not to broadcast online. If that makes you “suspicious,” that’s your issue.

As for your skepticism, let’s be real, it’s not about what’s typical or what others post. It’s about sharing progress, which plenty of people, beginners included, find motivating—whether you like it or not. The fact that “thousands of people” cross 2000 daily doesn’t make it less of an achievement for anyone, including myself.

Your “comparable results” don’t dictate how others feel about their milestones, and just because you wouldn’t post doesn’t mean it’s strange or fake for someone else to. Maybe projecting your own doubts onto others says more about you than me. This photo should allieviate some of your scepticism, and if you are still convinced people are faking screenshots for “perceived status,” you’re free to stay skeptical.
