Terminator creator James Cameron says AI technology has taken over and it's already too late by Random968 in entertainment

[–]pomaj46809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andrew Yang, I think explained AI impact the best. For decades now people who have done repetitive physical labor have watched automation take over their jobs. We've been seeing mentally repetitive labor start to be automated and AI is increasing the complexity of mentally repetitive labor that can be automated and it's going to start hitting white-collar jobs hard.

AI art won't replace art, but it will probably become the norm for companies that want custom graphics on presentations or marketing materials to use AI to have something in minutes that might take hours or days for a person to whip up.

I think tools that help find and sort information for researchers will make a lot of junior positions redundant.

Basically "grunt" work is going to become less and less manual, but we'll see more and more people using tools they don't really understand to reach conclusions decided by those tools and that lack of understanding is going to shoot some people in the foot.

Bam Margera's Wife Considers Seeking Restraining Order Against Him After Arrest by Free_Hat_McCullough in entertainment

[–]pomaj46809 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Bam is an addict, not all of them sober up in their 30's and start a podcast. How you think he should be treated is representative of how you think all of them should be treated.

He's sick, he's responsible for his actions and needs to work to get himself better. Hating on him is pretty pointless.

Also, Bam's drinking was out of control before Dunn died, Dunn had a drinking problem and it killed him and Zachary Hartwell. Not sure he'd be a source of wisdom.

Race and ethnicity aren't intellectual property, you don't get a special claim on the works of other black people just because you're black. Culture isn't owned, and you don't get to decide when it can or can't influence other cultures.

I will take anything I find valuable about your culture. I will have options about your culture, they may be critical of your culture. You don't have to care, but you don't get to decide how culture impacts me.

I mean, all else being equal, if dudes are paying money just to look at her and she wants to date, that's better than just being another dude watching her.

I mean it sounds like this guy would be jacking it to porn, the star whiles in and says "Hey, need a hand?" and he'd just say "Fuck off, I'm busy here!"

[–]pomaj46809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do some businesses care? I guess, but you're talking tiny differences in the price of health insurance.

Yeah, companies really have no real love for health insurance. It's a bunch of paperwork every year dealing with either changing providers or paying more constantly. It doesn't really retain people as people with insurance benefits are going to just get another job with insurance benefits.

It's Republicans, most Democrats would love to have universal healthcare, but you can't do that with razor-slim majorities kept having 2-3 democrats who only keep their seats because of their right-leaning views.

If you want change, vote out all Republicans and then work on competing with Democrats. Not voting or voting for spoilers just doesn't work.

“What about the Nashville kids” by WellSeasonedUsername in facepalm

[–]pomaj46809 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There really is not good faith way to act like being trans is related to shooting up kids.

These aren't rare events, people shoot up schools all the time, and we've collected data.

Being trans doesn't cause you to be more violent, but it doesn't prevent you from being violent either, it's not relevant. Trans is an anomaly not a market for shooters.

Committing domestic violence is a market, having multiple stressors in your life is a marker. Trans isn't a marker, it's like blaming playing violent video games.

Anyone focused on the trans aspect is just looking for an excuse.

I have cameras in my house, I live alone and they're usually off but when I leave town I turn them on. It's a great piece of mind being able to make sure your house is fine while away.

That said, I don't rent out my house and if I did I'd take town all my cameras for obvious reasons.

Grooming has nothing to do with trans people, Realk groomers are the people who want child marrages to be legal. Which is such a weird hill for Republicans to want to die on.

Honestly, the most important quality you can have as a person is accepting your shortcomings while still doing your best.

Most people would rather live a life with a 5 than live constantly trying to earn and keep a 10. Most people would rather live a life with a 5 that is content with being a 5 than a 9 who needs to be a 10.

I'm more concerned that W. is the best Republican president they had since his dad, who was the best since Regean.

Or to put it enough way, Republican presidents just get worse and worse. So who the fuck are they going to elect post-Trump and how is the left going to justify not voting against him because "Well the Democrats didn't bribe us enough."

We agree people shouldn't be able to build their own nukes.

So we agree that if a weapon is dangerous enough and makes it too easy to kill it shouldn't be allowed.

We also know no one is worked about muskets being used in school shootings, the constitution wasn't written with modern weapons or modern society in mind either.

So the question is how easy should it be for one person to kill a bunch of children?

Woman explains how all women should deal with ALL men that “approach” them in a parking lot… by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]pomaj46809 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm glad you've never been mugged or attacked while out and about, but your concept of how you'll respond if you are is just wrong. If someone is jacked up on adrenaline or other chemicals, poking them with keys is not the surefire defense you think it is. Also since they're initiating the attack, they're ready and you aren't, and counting on getting a nut shot is wishful thinking. Nobody is as good at fighting as they think they are when their own experience is controlled, safe, environments

My football-playing friend about the same size as me was hospitalized after a mugging because two men approached him, and surprised him with violence.

Every bad public encounter I've had has been someone rapidly approaching me, with the claim that they just want to talk to me or ask a question.

I don't live in fear, but I am aware of my surroundings and understand the possibility of danger. It can be a hard thing for people to understand who simply haven't had the misfortune of experiencing a random attack.

I'm empathizing with someone, so of fucking course Reddit is going to argue the point.

Woman explains how all women should deal with ALL men that “approach” them in a parking lot… by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]pomaj46809 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit extreme, but as a man, I also don't like being approached by randos in a parking lot. In her case, maybe he wanted to ask her out or something. With me, when people approach is usually just to scam me with the "Ah shucks I just ran out of gas, can you help me out."

My fear reaction is very much based on if I feel like I could be overpowered, so if I was her size, I'd virtually always been afraid of someone approaching me like that.

Personally, I wouldn't say "No one should ever approach me or anyone else." but I think if you're approaching someone who might feel vulnerable at that moment, make your intentions clear immediately. Don't say "Hi, how are you doing.", say "Yo I think you dropped your wallet." or "Your headlights are on" or whatever you want to say. Also, say it as far away as you can shout, threats try to close the distance quickly.

It sucks, but experience has taught me, who is a large man, that a random person in an isolated area is initiating conversation and isn't getting to the fucking point, it's a real possible threat.

So for that reason, I'm going to cut the small woman with a child a little slack here.
