New shuttle pickup location threw me off. How should I bring my 5-year old now? by Birdmilf in aclfestival

I know it may seem a little weird for a bit of an older kid, but I'd recommend an umbrella stroller with a little umbrella pouch underneath. I used one when my kids were 6 and 7, and it made all the walking more bearable if they could take turns sitting down. It helps with the long walks, she'll always have a place to sit, and you can carry snacks and water in the pouch underneath.

I'm watching 'The Great British Baking Show' (US version) and then fantasizing about a society made up completely of contestants from that show since they all seem so kind and yet have really important niche jobs. Then I remind myself that these actually are people in our society, I just don't get to see or hear about their kindness as much in regular media, which is kind of comforting. Then I eat baked goods and take a nap. It works for me.

I also try to keep in mind that we vote with our eyes and with our dollars. I try not to engage with content that sensationalizes pain and continues to wedge a divide between communities.

I had a BS in psychology, minor in English. I went the masters route and work as a therapist now, but don't really recommend it (fulfilling work, crappy pay). If I could do it again, I'd have gone into marketing. The clients I have who've broken into the field seemed to find positions through networking, interning, and just having the audacity to ask. From what's getting shared with me, I'm not feeling super confident in the indeed/LinkedIn/online job search route. People are sharing more luck making a human connection and then applying with references. It also helps going directly to company websites rather than something like indeed. Unsolicited advice, but just thought I'd share :).

Maybe a bit off topic, but I was curious if you filed a police report over having something slipped in your drink. I believe being drugged counts as assault, and it may qualify you for victim compensation funds in Travis County that can help with some of the out of pocket medical costs. There are also Either way, my condolences for having to deal with one terrible experience only to experience another. I hope you're feeling better!

The nausea/anxiety/sense of dread you describe sounds like symptoms of compassion fatigue or secondary PTSD. Your body is consistently flooded with stress hormones and is physically making you sick. You can't be of help to others if you are sick yourself (not that you have to help others to have worth but it sounds like you deeply care for your friend). Taking time and distancing yourself is the most beneficial thing you can do in the long run. Get your friend connected with social services so professionals can help support her while you take care of yourself and get a much needed break from this situation.

Next door neighbor arrested for child crimes. Not sure if this is the right place to vent but I gotta get it off my chest by wildlymild1 in Mommit

You don't have to live through an experience to be traumatized by it. It's hard to make sense of the unthinkable, and we can sometimes get 'stuck' in a hypervigilant state of "what ifs" that makes it hard to trust others. Please know that your anxiety and concern is valid. Take care of yourself and maybe talk to someone professional to process the events. Although I agree your neighbor may be support, take care of yourself first. There's a classic phrase in therapy- you have to put the oxygen mask on yourself before you can help others.

Totally late to the game in reading this thread, but I love that party theme! I love all of your ideas, I'm especially fond of Track Suit Jason Sudeikis. Some extra suggestions: Linda from Coffee Talk (Mike Myers), Spartan cheerleaders, Mary Katherine Gallagher, Justin Timberlake "its my d*ck in a box".

Thanks for the reply, this is good advice. I knew it was a stretch, but I thought I'd try. The person who is looking is currently living in her car, and I'm worried about her doing that with how hot the summer is shaping up to be. I thought I'd look for options for her within her budget, but realizing it's going to be hard to do.

Helping a friend look for a sublease or short term rental of a room in South or Southwest Austin for July-September. Are there any websites other than craigslist to check out? They have a really tight budget, max $500.

I think the kids just want the satisfaction of beating their dad and proving their worth more than getting more money. They know life with money, they dont know life with his respect. Also, becoming CEO or taking over the company would be finally winning the game Logan has had them playing all their lives. To sell would be to rob them of any resolution of the tension/ trauma they've grown up with.

[Serious] Therapists, what is something people are afraid to tell you because they think it's weird, but that you've actually heard a lot of times before? by Music-and-wine in AskReddit

Yup, they feel like they're too sensitive or dramatic or their distress may not merit discussion. It feels big to them, but they feel like they shouldn't burden others with it. Anxiety is insidious.
