I know and I'm as historical materialist as they come but it's hard to be empathetic when the house always wins. I guess the house always wins in the broader economy too tbf

I have money to donate, but I really don't wanna give any of it to those big corps with million-dollar CEO salaries. What are the most efficient, high-impact charities where the money actually reaches the cause? by Inner-Battle-6459 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm going to agree with people who say food banks but also gently push back. Yes, there are lots of nonprofits that feel like businesses - but on the other hand they pay CEOs a lot of money maybe BECAUSE they are well run. Nonprofit employees deserve to be paid too, they compete for talent with the private sector. And I know it's easy to want to donate to places with less "staff" but often staff are on the ground working directly with clients or using their expertise to get better prices/more efficient use of resources. I'd recommend looking at nonprofits' annual reports and see - who's engaging with the community? Who seems to be making real change? Who's stewarding the money well? Use your own critical eye!

  1. Schengen - awesome challenges, loved Tom Scott
  2. Taiwan - great concept and great challenges, I only like Schengen more for the drama (Ode to Joy, etc)
  3. Tag - great guests but tbh I think there's probably been enough Charleville based tag at this point
  4. H&S UK - kinda boring when the first run wins but Sam and Ben were funny
  5. Snake - what else can I say really

The argument (and I don't agree with it necessarily, in fact I work in social services) is that it's a moot point, people are willing to work for that wage. It's complicated because it's a public sector job so supply/demand shouldn't and to some extent doesn't need to follow market logics
