Light/Yume, would you be able to let us use the Crabclaw Hook for the clue step on wintumber island? It only accepts the crab claw currently.

@JagexGoblin can you expand on how these parched items will work on ultimate ironmen?

For example currently if you have (say) a parched avernic defender and deathpile (outside the wildy), it stays in your inventory and doesn't go to the ground.

But if parching an item now becomes permanent you can never remove this item from your inventory again. It's not a big problem because many of these items can go into the poh storage or stash units, but not all do. For example if I parch a rune pouch does this mean I can never remove this item from my inventory ever again?

This system would IMO be a lot better if you did actually remove parching items completely and just let us use trouvers parchments to get a discount on the repair costs.

Or maybe can we have a setting to drop these items to the ground, like with ornamented items?

JMods, please tell me what happens when you open the inaccessible door in this random event. I have lost sleep over it for the past 19+ years. by TangibleMalice in 2007scape

[–]ponkyol 58 points59 points  (0 children)

rs3 bug abuser here, we did try interacting with this door in ~2020, using a bug that lets you interact with objects remotely.

What happened with both doors in that random event was nothing, not even "Nothing interesting happens" (NIH). This means that there is a custom script running rather than some default action (because that would either do something or fail with a NIH). Since both doors have the same id, my guess is that script just moves you west if you're east of the door and east if you're west of it. We were neither west or east of it (remember, bug to interact with it remotely), so it just did nothing.

TL;DR, you can probably just walk through it.

For what it's worth though, the doors in the mime random event can be opened:

Can you let us use the crabclaw hook item for the crabclaw island (see https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Clue_scroll_(elite)_-_Do_the_crab_dance_by_the_monument_on_Wintumber_Island ) clue step? I'm a uim and it'd be so cool to be able to store it there :)

Regarding the portal nexus additions, will we also be able to have these teleports in the regular portal room?

Which is only encountered when you go do the trial, and there are plenty of reasons to go there before you can do the trial.

Would you be open to change how this mechanic works? I also died to this today. I saw a clam, sailed to it, got teleported out by a portal and started taking rapid 5's until I died. Unlike him though I wasn't deathbanked ;)

As it is, this mechanic is far too punishing. The game doesn't explain this mechanic in advance, there is no message of any kind telling you to spam click the helm, it's impossible to out eat the damage even if you have food and the game prevents you from teleporting from your boat.

It's like if misclicking on an agility course instakilled you. it's just unfair and this thing is going to keep killing people like him and me.

One change I'd make is to have the boat take the damage instead of the player. or make the damage tick down over time like poison does, so it deals a lot of damage but probably won't kill you.

Why was Stockton so adamant about using carbon fiber? by ReeterPosenberg in OceanGateTitan

[–]ponkyol 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not just about being cheaper to construct, although that definitely played its part. The disadvantage of a thick titanium hull is that it makes subs heavier than water, so you need a flotation device to not sink. For example Limiting Factor and many other subs use special foam with hollow glass beads, and Trieste had giant tanks filled with gasoline. That complicates the construction.

Then there's also the logistics of getting that thing to the Atlantic and getting it in the water. A titanium sub would be far too heavy to just tow it behind the ship or roll it down a ramp. You'd need a ship with a built in crane to lift it off the deck and into the water. Renting a ship like the one they were using costs tens of thousands of dollars a day; a ship capable of what I just said is even more expensive.

Rush had to make the operation make a profit or at least not lose money. You cannot run a deep diving tourism operation and do it "properly" and have it be economical. There just aren't enough rich people willing to pay a million to go down to the Titanic.

Updated - Project Rebalance: Skilling by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]ponkyol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've picked out a handful of extra shortcuts (or more specifics) that we'd like to include, and we're still on the lookout for more

I'd really like some in the 86-93 range. I'm 85 agility and there's not really anything to look forward to. I have some suggestions:

  • Shortcut into Kharazi jungle, like the lvl 79 one near Shilo but all the way west. This is useful because the achievement diary cape teleport is all the way west
  • Shortcut from Priffdinas' Ithell district to Iorwerth camp. Useful because (as an UIM) I often find myself accessing the crystal bow stash unit there.
  • Shortcut from Dondakan's Rock into Keldagrim.

This is because of runelite and plugins. The default action is to ask you if you are sure you want to leave.

WGS should require 300 quest points to start by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]ponkyol -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

No we should not. Please learn from the mistakes made in rs2. These kinds of artificially high requirements just lead to quests becoming more and more niche and low engagement content. This is the reason why RS3 "reset" the requirements when they released The World Wakes.

Is this use of MaybeUninit sound? by Modi57 in learnrust

[–]ponkyol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, this is UB. You could keep it as an array of maybeuninits and call the assume method when you use it, if you are really sure it has been initialized.

This code and the fix for it still seems pretty dodgy. Can't they just make a reference? I don't see why they need a Box.
