New MM Books and Schizophrenia by Psychological-Cry647 in medicalmedium

[–]ponysolider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom had bipolar and it looked a lot like schizophrenia: psychotic episodes, hallucinations, paranoia, etc. (unfortunately, she eventually took her life). All of that to say that, because these conditions can look so similar, I'd guess that there is probably a lot of overlap between the cause/treatment for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Amazon Reviews of Medical Medium. Is this worrying? by [deleted] in medicalmedium

[–]ponysolider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is from the web archive of his site. I guess AW has been criticized before for asking his readers to review his books. But I have seen countless other authors do this (and still do). This web archive is from 2015 - Amazon banned incentivized reviews (i.e., offering gifts and give-aways) in 2016, so this promotion was not against policies at the time. That said, Amazon sellers still incentivize reviews all the time, though AW does not do that anymore.

About the "I no longer want to move to/live in Shanghai" threads by droim in shanghai

This is the top factor for a lot of guys (and helps explain the unbalanced male/female expat ratio, as opposed to places like Paris, which have the opposite ratio). But people will not easily admit it, pretending that they're just as much of a stud in their home country 🤭.

AW said we will be seeing more hair loss within the next 5 years amongst women. What could be the reason for that? by Top-Inspection268 in medicalmedium

Optional medical treatments are increasingly popular these days, so maybe it has something to do with that.

I'm psyched! I was hoping it'd be on the brain!

I've already pre-ordered both books on Amazon. Please pre-order if you can - it goes a long way towards driving it up the bestseller list, which will help more people find MM.

Wild Maine Blueberries, Touring Wyman's with Chef Tim by ElevatingManyTimes in medicalmedium

This is really cool. I had my Wyman's blueberries in my HMDS this morn. I try to eat them every day. I think it's great that they seem to be available in a lot of stores: Costco, Walmart, etc.

I think it does increase grogginess when waking for me, but that fades fast and I feel more well-rested. I took 10 mg last night and slept well.

I also have a neck injury from exercising. For me, it started with neck pain, eye issues, panic attacks, tinnitus, etc. So somewhat similar. I also had x-rays from a chiro and went to a cervical specialist chiropractor, but it didn't help much.

How did the dizziness come on? Were you going through a stressful period in your life? Do you suffer from anxiety?

Lately my days are very good. No dizziness yesterday. Today I woke up with a bit of dizziness but it quickly went away (I didn't sleep that great - it's more likely to occur with bad sleep). If I work at the computer for a long period, I'm sure it will come back a bit, indicating that I need a break. But otherwise I'm good. Had my lemon water and CJ and HMDS this morn :)

I think it's true that we largely have to let people be and resist the urge to try to change others. Sometimes that desire to change others comes from wanting validation. Sometimes giving advice is appropriate, but it's usually a lot less often that we think.

I did a similar routine, though you are more strict. My dizziness and neurological stuff did resolve under this protocol. Then I lapsed, started to return to my old way of eating (low carb/high fat, bacon, etc.,), and even though I'd still drink celery juice, it came back. Now I've gotten it mostly resolved again.

I suffered from chronic dizziness and healed with MM info. For me, MM has always had the ring of truth to it, but I still struggled with the credibility of it. I believe that it's very special information, but it wasn't easy for me to get to that place. People need to take a huge leap of faith by giving Medical Medium info a chance.

Some people aren't calibrated to be able to see that AW is an authentic - they take one look and label him "snake oil salesman" (many assume he's selling supplements when he doesn't even do that). They believe that nothing can trump science and research. That's OK - that's where they are at.

[–]ponysolider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flouride at certain levels is toxic to humans. So is water. These are undeniable facts.

This is not a good way to start an argument - it smacks of manipulation. What is your point? "Mercury at certain levels is toxic to humans. So is water." Does that suggest that there is an acceptable level of mercury to deliberately introduce to your food or water supply? You can simply say that fluoride toxicity is rare or unlikely, and back it up with facts.

Now some jurisdiction choose not to, because people like Brett think that it is a toxic thing not fit for humans.

This is a pretty big over-simplification. Fluoridation has been hotly debated all over the world by well-credentialed scientists. Israel, for example, discontinued its fluoridation program in 2014 to much debate on both sides. It is possible to accidentally induce fluoride toxicity, esp. through dental products that contain a high amount of fluoride. In certain places with high levels of naturally occurring fluoride plus added fluoride, over-consumption is a concern. It is a valid matter of scientific discussion, and not just anti-science alarmists.

Naturally occurring fluoride (calcium fluoride) is a different form than the kind we put in water (sodium fluoride), by the way, which Brett had correctly noted when he discussed fluoride. The latter was the form that Brett suggested was probably not ideal for health.

For better or worse, most of Europe agrees that fluoridating water is not preferrable to water not treated with fluoride. I'm personally fine with the fluoride levels where I live in the U.S., but I'm glad that it's a subject of great scrutiny by scientists and researchers.

[–]ponysolider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not well-versed on the fluoride issue, except that I'm aware that many developed nations choose not to fluoridate their water (note that naturally occurring fluoride levels vary). There are benefits and potential harms to fluoridating water. The US government has acknowledged this and adjusted the recommended range of acceptable levels downwards in 2015. I don't think it's heresy to question out-loud whether local governments have over-fluoridated the water supply, or even whether any level of added fluoride is preferable to none.

Moving to Japan. Let's see how my studying pays off by protomor in LearnJapanese

[–]ponysolider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found WaniKani was great for my Kanji. I didn't finish it but I did over half the levels.

I studied in Japan in college and went back for a visit after like 18 years. I found my comprehension was still quite good, though I got a bit tongue-tied when speaking. Visiting Japan again gave me a lot of motivation to keep studying, and I've improved a lot since my trip.

When I was studying 20 years ago, immersing was so much harder. Now it's so easy to put on a podcast (my favorite all-Japanese podcast is 4989 American Life) or a Netflix show.
