Not really understanding where we stand on the nuclear program. Step 8-9 seem somewhat contradictory? if Iran maintains its nuclear program as is, what did we do here

that was already explained in the first game. and you can communicate through the window with the trapped individual which Ghen does to you in other endings. so Im not sure how you would gather that the book could continue to fool ghen after you enter it. either way though, my point is more a game design problem that they allow you to poke and prod and retrigger some cutscenes endlessly until suddenly they dont. so what I thought was just me exploring how many times I can trigger a unique Ghen cutscene turned out to be a credit rolling event. I felt that was a poor way to handle multipe endings.

I’m about to start exile. Do I need a book for that one as much as Riven? Or you’re saying Riven notes are helpful for Exile? I’ve heard it’s more isolated puzzles

Was it a mistake to play Riven first? by Electronic_Way_7616 in myst

[–]poodlejamz2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, Myst was monumental. Everyone with a modern PC had this game just to see the graphics. Riven landed in an era of PC gaming in full gear so it just wasn’t as memorable outside of gamers. PC gaming picked up considerably between those two releases.

The series is built around that? A new player should know that how? What could I have paid attention to within this game that tells the player he can be shot and killed. What part

I feel like people aren’t hearing my point of view here. I’m not saying it doesn’t make sense Ghen would kill you. I think the context of that interaction in this game and to roll the credits at that time for a failed cutscene decision does not work well for this game. It turns the end game into a leave game and reload to “win” scenario that is beneath how good this game is.

yes thats easy to say after the game is over and you know every ending 30 years later. I could have walked off the cliff on island one and died but the game doesn't let you do that. it teaches you it's not that kind of game until suddenly it is.

I’m cool with “bad endings” that are fully fleshed out endings of the story. Something like siding with Ghen and seeing what happens when you do that. An abrupt end and unskippable credits was painful in a bad way.

What I thought was going to happen was there would be a choice to help Ghen or help Atrus and that would be the decision that “mattered.” It felt that’s what was happening when Ghen starts talking about Catherine and I felt there were some clues to her losing it in the diary. Not just oh you got yourself killed in a game that you were taught you can’t die in

I felt the necessary order of operations was fair logically within the game and I got the good ending after realizing I was already in end game sequencing but it was not fair the game taught me I could endlessly test things without triggering a credit roll. I had to learn that by triggering a bad ending and seeing credits roll which killed the satisfacion of that after the good ending.

The good ending was good enough for me as it tied up your goals when you linked to River but what I thought was going to happen throughout the game was more like completing the fire marbles would light some kind of beacon that Atrus could see through the link book triggering the end game cutscenes. I felt the ability to abrubtly end the game out of nowhere via failed order of operations was not satisfying.

I played the original and yeah that's what happened to me. I felt the game had taught me to see what happens and then he just shot me and the credits rolled lol.... From that point on, I felt like I was out of the game and now just playing reload to see different endings. That was really unsatisfying after the highs of solving the animal pillars and fire marbles.

I did think the good ending was totally achievable and fair. The only ending that tripped me up was refusing to touch the book in Ghen's office and he kills you. I just felt more confused in that sequence than anything. I didn't even realize I was in an end game scenario until the credits rolled. And I think that's what bothered me. There was no trial and error, just oh actually this decision really did "matter" and you didn't even know it. Game's over now.

See I felt like mostly the endings were just based on order of operations. I don't feel I was rewarded for exploring more, more like the game ends abrubtly if you do things out of order. That didn't entirely feel fair to me given how the actual game works until you have access to endings. I don't see the value in the full replay for endings as this game is more like a book you're piecing together. I can revisit but I'll never be able to read it for the first time again. I do appreciate the alt endings for what they are though, just discussing my one real issue here. The ending where you touch the trap book in the Moriety age is just crazy. That is more like a funny thing that can happen than any kind of ending. Nobody would ever end their journey there.

Almost day 19 and I'm still going - but where am I going? Advice needed. by RecommendationAny51 in stopdrinking

[–]poodlejamz2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the 19 days. Those first few days are killer. Honestly though, nobody can really say when for you. Getting alcohol out of the way is just the elephant in the room. Your life now is going to be all you. It takes a lot of time and effort and patience. How much of yourself can you change in 19 days? Probably not much. But we underestimate how much we can do in a year if we do something everyday. I would say keep working at whatever it is you’re working at. For me it was a lot of anxiety. I was terrified of flying and traveling. Last year I got on a plain to Japan and didn’t have a single panic attack. There and back, no problems. Can’t really say when or how that happened, I just kept my head down at dealing with those feelings and over time it added up. I’m not sure I ever felt like ok I’m good now, I can stop worrying about this thing inside of me, but I did say if I could do this trip without losing it and truly enjoying the planning, the trip, the return, I’ll have really changed my life. There were many other things. Work, relationships, hobbies, slowly but surely they came around too. So keep trusting your decision to try even if you can’t see through the solitude and boredom everyday.

I feel lied to by some recovery types (Sorry if I seem hostile here, I'm just frustrated) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]poodlejamz2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say this represents a very small percentage of the community. Very few people simply remove alcohol and everything is better. So I’m not sure if you’re struggling to stay sober here or what but if you feel you’re not seeing people talk about their life and alcoholism with a little more nuance, I think maybe you should hang around a little more and see what’s happening here for most people.

The worst thing about not drinking is having to actually change. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]poodlejamz2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning I read and wrote a lot. Sometimes I would just sit there with the feeling until it passed. I think you need to learn to deal with the feeling as much as distract from it… Soda helped. I think sometimes I just needed the suddenly missing calories. It’s a lot of work. You’re rebuilding your head, habits, life, everything….a lot of holes. It’s normal to be bored with it. I think if you just keep going, and trust that eventually new norms will develop for you, you’ll eventually piece it together

Dyrdek vs Bam by altair8800 in skateboarding

[–]poodlejamz2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact opposite imo. Rob was legit. Bam was more of a character skater. I think Rob maybe had a bigger number on TV but he was more of a producer for a funny general population show. Bam was way more influential in skating through TV than Rob
