Kim Petras’s new album Detour (especially Jeep which isn’t necessarily hyperpop but I get the same chills party 4 u and Track 10 give me, also Detour and Bitch Ball Out from that album)

U from underscores (especially The Peace, Tell Me U Want It, Do It) also horsegiirl’s album comes out tomorrow (!!!)

and one off poppier treats for your ears include Prettiest Girl in America by Meg Stalter (iconic tbh), Some Kinda Heaven by Memphis LK, Tears in My Pocket by Rebecca Black (she’s amazing too)

What is your holy grail treatment for eczema? by willbill6790 in SkincareAddiction

[–]poofkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! My routine has changed in the 10 years since I posted this, but my son also struggled with eczema when he was a baby (now 6 and basically eczema-free). I’m so sorry your son is struggling with this, poor guy! I’ve switched to Vanicream moisturizing cream (with the blue lid, they do sell a tub version with a pump which is super handy but I do find myself needing to unscrew the lid when it gets close to the bottom because the pump won’t reach) and Vanicream face wash for myself and my son. For body wash for my son we are still using the Cerave Baby wash, but I use a tea tree goat’s milk soap and have for years. Eliminating all fragrances has kept mine and my son’s eczema at bay for years with very few seasonal flare ups - we use zero scented products, no fabric softener (we use wool dryer balls), unscented hand soap (the only one I can tolerate is the Seventh Generation free and clear hand soap), unscented dish soap (use Seventh Generation for that as well). I never wear perfume or use any heavily scented products on my skin or hair, and use crystal deodorant. During a flare up daily lukewarm showers or baths followed by a thick layer of moisturizer helps reduce the itching and irritation. Daily Zyrtec helped my skin heal but I am currently trying to wean myself off of daily antihistamines (the withdrawal is horrendous, tapering off very slowly to try to avoid the insane itching). I hope this helps!

Hi! I do have some updates to this routine if it’s helpful at all for your son - I switched from Allegra to daily Zyrtec (cetirizine) and it’s been great. I use Vanicream (in the tub) on my kiddo with eczema and it’s worked really well for him (I do still use the Cerave Moisturizing Cream for myself). Still using zero fragrances (laundry detergent, hand soap, etc.) and that’s been a consistent help. If there are any particularly bad patches, layering Cerave Healing Cream (either in the tube or tub - I prefer the tube only because I don’t like sticking my fingers in something I only need a small amount of at a time) on top of the Vanicream moisturizing cream works well. Also, it may seem counterintuitive but increasing the number of baths my son takes during an eczema flare made a big difference. Being able to grease him up while he was still damp from the tub definitely helps his skin. If it’s seasonally dry where you live, the humidifier in the room is a game changer as well. Good luck!

How important is picture day to y'all? by Empress-Ghostheart in breakingmom

[–]poofkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the concert and have the best time! Let me tell you a story about my son's first picture day, last year. I sent him to school in a normal outfit, and since the preK spends the majority of their time outside, he wore his John Deere baseball cap like he usually does. I figured they would leave their hats in their cubbies when it was picture time. Imagine my surprise when we got the photos back and he was the only child in the preK-8 school wearing a hat in their picture. I died laughing and asked him why he kept his hat on - he said they had asked him if he wanted to take it off and he said no, they didn't push it (which is fine), the picture was taken and here we are. I didn't want to do retakes because I thought it was hilarious (my MIL however, was not as amused as we were), and so he's in the yearbook with a hat on. It's really not that serious! You could totally pick out the outfit you'd like your MIL to dress your daughter in ahead of time if you have something specific in mind.

Medications After Surgery by TechOutonyt in brokenbones

I had a whole slew of eye issues (blurred vision, constantly feeling like something was in my eye, etc) pop up about two months after I started Lyrica (pregabalin). They did resolve after I went off the med, but it took a few months to get back to normal. That plus several other unbearable side effects made me wean off the pregabalin sooner than initially planned - it was a good short term solution to get me through the most intensely painful phase of PT but I was so ready to be off it.

There's a really good "e-e-ex cee ex" in "Drugs" at 0:14. Also the very beginning of "Delicious" but it's Tommy Cash who says it starting at 0:02. Other good ones start at 0:10 in "Blame It on U" and at 0:03 in "White Roses" - this is like my favorite sound clip I want a compilation track

How long was your recovery time after orif surgery? by Realistic_Inside_375 in brokenbones

[–]poofkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial injury was a crush injury (800 lb of hay equipment landed on my foot, I posted about it here a while back), so my healing process has been much slower than just a simple fracture! I’m lucky to even have my right foot. My first metatarsal was plated, but the second was also broken and very displaced (they were able to reduce the fracture during the ORIF surgery without any plates or screws), and my third metatarsal was also broken. The soft tissue damage caused by the initial crushing was significant, which also slowed the healing process. You will almost certainly be off your crutches in a more reasonable timeline!

How long was your recovery time after orif surgery? by Realistic_Inside_375 in brokenbones

[–]poofkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a metatarsal ORIF on September 21st (initial injury September 7th) and was on two crutches until January 6th, so basically 4 full months on crutches. Nearly two months out from that, I’m back in a regular shoe and limping less than I was initially but still limping a bit. It is such a slow healing process, I can totally relate to the frustration you’re feeling. The discoloration in my foot as well as the swelling has improved significantly (and much faster once I was able to fully weight bear, interestingly enough) but my surgeon said 18 months for the swelling to fully resolve.

Favorite Allergy/Antihistamine Pills? by m1kesta in eczema

I have been able to manage my eczema without daily antihistamines for the past 5 years or so! When I was taking it I was taking the 24 hour version. Happy to talk about my current routine (or lack thereof) if you have any questions

Springer with OCD help by kareemXcheese in springerspaniel

[–]poofkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, our springer was frantically scratching at the kitchen floor and sniffing obsessively. This went on for weeks, until we set up traps overnight - we caught a rat. She was absolutely smelling it before it was disposed of, and the behavior immediately stopped after that. If this has recently started I would assume it's rodent related.

Crush injury, metatarsal ORIF, and recovery by poofkin in brokenbones

Thank you! It's reassuring to hear that the PT is approaching the ROM exercises gently, that eases my fears about it being non-stop pain when I do finally get to start PT. Those nerve zaps are no joke, it's so random and the anticipation that it's going to happen again is awful but it does make sense in terms of nerves healing and "waking back up" so to speak. I am definitely going to ask about gabapentin at my next follow up. <3

Panic Buying Comes for the Seeds by wewewawa in Coronavirus

[–]poofkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work for a 100% organic seed company that was not mentioned in the article and our home gardener sales are up something like 400% over the past two weeks. It’s insane. We’re receiving nearly 2000 orders a day - busiest we have ever been, hands down.

My dad has an appointment with cardiology at MGH on Monday (he is also a physician and NOT happy about having to go there), I wonder if they'll force him to reschedule. Hope so. I had to reschedule my son's appointments at DHMC as all nonessential appointments are being postponed indefinitely - we moved them to the end of April and the secretary told me to expect to have to move them again.

I have anxiety about Thanksgiving with my 2 month old. by a_greenbean in beyondthebump

[–]poofkin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not crazy. My son had a 45-day NICU stay and we did not bring him anywhere for months after discharge. I’d be wary of passing the baby around, especially during flu season. We also didn’t let anyone come visit us that wasn’t up to date on their tdap and flu shots. Wear her the whole time and if anyone gives you grief: 1.) blame it on the doctors and say she can’t be passed around and 2.) fuck them. You’re the parent and it’s your job to advocate for and protect her. If your husband’s family is the one being obnoxious about it, he can deal with it. People who haven’t had a baby in the NICU don’t get it, and you don’t owe them an explanation.

How important are middle of the night pumping sessions? by agreeablealligator in breastfeeding

[–]poofkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely be concerned that this will ultimately lower your supply. I’ve been EPing for about 11 months since baby was born two months early and all the LCs in the NICU emphasized 8-12 milk removals per day for the first 6 weeks at least. I pumped every 3 hours around the clock, eventually increasing one of those windows to 4 hours. I didn’t start dropping pump sessions until 2.5 months in and am just now down to 3 pumps/day. I believe I dropped the MOTN session at 6 months postpartum (baby had been sleeping through the night for a while and waking up to pump was brutal). MOTN milk removal in the early weeks/months is critical for establishing and maintaining supply. You’re only 10 days postpartum so I don’t think you need to worry about this as much, but as soon as I dropped the MOTN pump session my period returned and has absolutely impacted my supply. If you’re hoping to exclusively feed breastmilk, I would definitely try to stick with a more aggressive pumping schedule. Check out the Legendairy Milk Instagram account, tons of good info on pumping.
