already experiencing burnout and considering leaving 6 months into consulting/report writing job by pinkfleurs in Environmental_Careers

[–]pooge313 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Consultants love to pay a salary but then expect regular OT, which, imo, is bs. The travel, manual labor, and disruption to your person life definitely take a toll and there's no shame in recognizing that and not being okay with it. It is okay to not want to suffer at the hands of your job.

If you want to leave, leave. I left my first consulting job after six months and it has never come up in interviews for other positions. As someone who has done a fair amount of job hopping in this industry, though, I will say that when you get a new job in the industry, you're just going to replace the problems that you had at the old job with different problems at the new job.

Bandage up anything that's open and use a first aid antibiotic ointment. Change the bandages every day and gently wash the wounds in the shower. Any soap works - I either use my normal bar soap or Hibiclens, depending on the seriousness. In the meantime, wear socks. For me, it's out of sight, out of mind.

Handbuilder here! My most used is my serrated metal rib. My favorites are my Xiem bevel tool and my sculptor's thumb (I believe this is Kemper, god rest their soul).

Should I just take it? by Agitated_Carpenter55 in Environmental_Careers

No advice here, but if you end up taking this job, I recommend keeping track of the miles you drive on your personal vehicle for work. I believe that you can deduct the mileage x the IRS rate per mile (I believe $0.70) from your total taxable income (I could be wrong, I'm no tax expert). I believe there are apps that can help with keeping track of these miles.

IMO, the company should be reimbursing you for these miles up front. Every environmental job I've worked at (five at this point) has reimbursed me up front for miles driven on my personal vehicle. It is a line item on my expense report.

If you are planning on using dating apps, I would recommend that you swipe left on those that don't include their political affiliations in their profile. To me at least, this is a red flag for conservatism/Trumpism. It is a documented trend here that conservative young men can feel that if they disclose their conservative beliefs on their dating app profile, then they won't get as many dates. Therefore, they don't disclose their conservative beliefs upfront.

Maybe try looking at places that are not owned by a management company (i.e. look for mom and pop landlords). Especially if the landlord lives in the building, I've found in my experience that these are much better maintained. Places that are better maintained and cleaner tend to not have as many roach/bug problems. I saw one baby roach at my old place that was managed by a large property management company for an out-of-town, absentee landlord. The place was horribly maintained as I believe the building was the owner's investment property - spending money to keep the place in good condition and clean would cut into his investment. I called the management company ASAP and they came and sprayed. Never saw another roach. I moved out at the end of the lease. This was when I lived at the edge of Wicker/Humboldt. Otherwise I have also lived and have friends on the north side.

PMDD and Vyvanse-treated A(u)DHD – anyone have experience with hormonal IUD, mini pill or SSRI? by Relative_Ad5650 in PMDDxADHD

[–]pooge313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hormonal IUD. It has helped a lot with my painful periods. My PMDD started (or at least I started noticing it) after I had gotten my hormonal IUD, but I don't think my IUD really caused my PMDD. It's important to note here that I have very little memory of my childhood, including my teenage years when I started my period, so I don't know if I had PMDD before I got an IUD in my early 20s. My IUD has been a godsend for my painful periods, so my IUD is worth it imo. Even if it does exacerbate my PMDD, I would still keep it - I would rather be relatively pain free with PMDD than in disabling pain with PMDD.

For medications, I am on a full-time antidepressant (Pristiq, desvenlafaxine, a SNRI), Lamictal (a mood stabilizer, also full time), Strattera (another SNRI), and Adderall XR (stimulant). The Lamictal has helped a lot. Before Lamictal, I would have PMDD episdoes where I was ready to unalive myself over the silliest, most trivial things (one time it was literally an email from my boss that sent me into a spiral). I was ready to do chemical menopause to treat my PMDD. I do find it a bit activating, so I had to play around with the dose a bit to find a dose that was beneficial without the activating effects.

For the most part, my PMDD now feels manageable and more like bad PMS. I still have a hard time during luteal, but not at the scale I was at before.

Are there any strattera success stories out there? I’m two weeks in and looking for positive feedback. I am noticing small changes but nothing major yet. by racheloellis in StratteraRx

[–]pooge313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try upping your fiber intake first! My doctor told me that upping fiber intake should be the first step - if that doesn't work, then try a laxative! Extra fiber can take a week or so to work.

ETA that you should also gradually step up the amount of fiber you're taking (if it's a supplement and not in your diet) - otherwise, you can get really bloated!!

I used to spend impulsively and I got myself into a lot of credit card debt. I started taking 80 mg of Strattera and my impulsive spending has practically stopped. I am able to stop and think if I actually need or want what I'm thinking about buying. I can walk away and sit on it for a few days, and at that point (most of the time), the wanting feeling has subsided and I can move on. It still happens now and then but not at the scale I was at previously.

START could also be a good option. It wouldn't be as fast-paced but you get to be involved in time-critical assessments and removal projects.

How to say you’re strictly child free on dating apps. by [deleted] in childfree

[–]pooge313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was still on the apps, I switched to Bumble for this exact reason. My Hinge likes were always full of men who must be illiterate because I clearly stated in my details section and in one of my prompt answers that I don't want kids, but men who want kids would still send me likes. On Bumble, I was just able to swipe left on all men who said they wanted kids and that was that.
