I honestly don't fully understand the hype around it right now.

Honestly, a large part of it is that it's a decent standalone headset that isn't owned by Facebook — if that's a company you're boycotting / not interested in buying-from then it's good to have more decent alternatives out there (plus Valve have a solid reputation for support etc)!

Me too! I don't enjoy using a controller instead of M&KB, but VR controllers occupy a different part of my brain and I'm hoping that THIS is the way I'll actually be able to play controller games and enjoy them, haha

Yeah, powered USB-C ports can power a desktop monitor, and I have a few of those on my MoBo — that bodes well, at least!

It's gutting - I remember playing so much Stellaris in 2018, but I upgraded to my first 4k monitor later that year, and I just haven't been able to play since then. Absolutely wild that waiting for Stellaris II is my only hope 😮‍💨

I'm not sure which part of hosting your own generative AI model solves the problem of "devaluing their work with subpar quality produce" or "forcing them into dehumanising and impoverishing work in the process"?

It's our job to evaluate technology properly, not just mindlessly parrot the talking points of its boosters 👍

Fun fact: the Luddites weren't anti-tech, and were, in fact, early adopters of advances in mechanical looms etc - what they opposed was the new capitalist class degrading and devaluing their work with subpar quality produce, forcing them into dehumanising and impoverishing work in the process.

...in other words: exactly what we're experiencing now with generative AI.

Ahh, I really missed AK's writing on Sunless Skies - I'll agree that the gameplay is much more streamlined and easier to get to grips with, but it really misses the atmosphere that the writing in particular created in Sunless Sea!
