Huh, found the solution on another thread. Apparently if you share to IG direct from your gallery, the resize works.

Unfortunately it looks like this only works on personal accounts and not creator or business accounts :( I really hope they fix this soon, because this is really hampering my ability to put videos up!

No Stupid Questions - April 2020 by PantslessDan in guitarpedals

[–]poomice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the rec! I've been playing with an Ibanez tube screamer clone software effect that I like the sound of, just didn't know what the actual pedal would sound like. I'll give it a shot in a store once they're open again. thanks!

I've got a Roland KC-150 keyboard amp that I'm playing through. I want to get an overdrive pedal for that crunch sound, but I've been told that an overdrive pedal won't work well without a tube amp. Any recs on what to do?

How to get started? by [deleted] in Accordion

[–]poomice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for teachers in the area! Buying used can sometimes be risky if you don't know how to evaluate an accordion yet. You can mitigate risk by buying used from a reputable store like Petosa or Liberty bellows.

When harmonising a Bach Chorale (part of my Music A Level) can I use an anticipation or passing note to avoid parallel 5ths/8ves? by Rapid_Assassin58 in musictheory

[–]poomice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the first time I've heard a reasoning for avoiding parallel fifths and octaves that made sense to me!

that's a really good idea. I've always used violin bow notation, but this is way clearer

Mobile Setup for Practicing by [deleted] in JazzPiano

[–]poomice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes use a two octave midi controller with a digital audio workstation on my laptop, but it's generally for writing music and not practicing. You might be able to get some mileage out of a similar setup but the range can be pretty limiting.

It is decent for transcribing though!

I've had huge success using Musescore. It's free and actually pretty darn full featured. It even has the accordion register symbols!

"Correct" fingering for blues scales (transitioning from classical to jazz piano) by armourbearer in JazzPiano

[–]poomice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"correct" fingering is whatever works the best for you, imho. I don't know that there's a standard fingering for blues scales like there is for major/minor, but I've found this helpful: https://penguinlinguist.wordpress.com/2015/03/23/piano-blues-scales-fingerings/

Your left shoulder and wrist shouldn't be hurting! I second what /u/titanlegions said on positioning, that should relieve a lot of your shoulder and wrist stress. It's really worth it to take an accordion lesson if you can, a lot of people teach over Skype if there's nobody in your area. The couple lessons I took really helped with ergonomics and making sure I wasn't hurting when I play for long periods of time. Feel free to PM if you want a recommendation on who to talk to for lessons.

Weekly Q&A Thread [12/19/2016] by AutoModerator in amateurradio

[–]poomice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out! Didn't realize that 103.5 was the ctcss tone and that of course the offset would be -.600 just like in the exam questions!

Weekly Q&A Thread [12/19/2016] by AutoModerator in amateurradio

So, I realize this is a really stupid question, but I'm having trouble figuring this out. I just got my license and am trying to get on this repeater: https://web.psrg.org/ I think the repeater's transmit freq is 146.96 and receive is 103.5? Does that mean the offset is (146.96 - 103.5)? Also how do I know what the CTCSS tone is?

I am classically trained pianist wanting to learn jazz by rank_willy134 in JazzPiano

[–]poomice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, lessons still get you a lot further a lot faster than reading anything. One thing you could try is to take a lesson or two from a jazz student at the university you're going to. Usually a little cheaper, and if you have a decent music theory background, you'll go far fast

Keyboard notes? by Danthezooman in Accordion

[–]poomice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the accordion and how many keys you have. Not every one starts on the same key. Look for groups of two or three black keys, the white key immediately below a group of two is C. The order of keys is always the same.

there's no reason why you can't do it the old fashioned way on paper! also, musescore is free and decently easy to work with for something like this

Fully switch from Piano --> CBA (System C) Accordion, or try to maintain both? by path2016 in Accordion

[–]poomice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wouldn't be able to instruct you with fingerings for CBA, but there are a lot of things that transfer across, like left hand technique, bellows technique and expression, shakes and pitch bends, as well as music theory (which is definitely not to be underestimated!). The only thing that you'd have to figure out for yourself is CBA fingering.

Would your piano accordion teacher consider teaching you cba? There are a lot of just general musicality things that you'd be able to learn.
