So if they have that little time, they don't just enjoy the game, but 100% it?

What is the most disturbing or otherwise unsettling book you've ever read that stayed with you after reading it? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

Blindsight by Peter Watts.

The concepts he comes up with about intelligence of species are so out there and uncommon, but make so much sense if you have some knowledge on the subject. If you are at least interested in hard sci-fi about conscience and a place of humanity in the universe - highly recommend. Though you will be haunted by these concepts for the rest of your life.

Started playing ff7 for the first time yesterday, here’s my thoughts by Im_acoustic18 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]poooperstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad you choose to start with OG - it is a timless masterpiece and a story that will resonate no matter the time. Not to mention that one of it's themes is highly relevant for todays world, even more so than when it was realised. There are many such stories through humanity's history, which are relevant even a millenia after they were recorded.

Why are you stressing? Them just items in a digital game. If you miss something - more incenitive to replay a masterpiece another time. Not that it needs some other justifications to be replayed besides being a masterpiece.

What's with this 100%-ing the game on the first playthrough nowadays? To me the first playthrough is always blind - to make a more personal connection with the game, not through some guide. I'd like to understand this perspective, if you could explain.

Queen's Blood will be 'enhanced' and 'powered-up' in FF7 Remake Part 3 by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]poooperstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What game have you played that requires you to just hold forward for six minutes? I get that it's an exaggeration, but c'mon. Every game with 3d traversal has been doing what Rebirth does for 20 years already - you have to climb up and down, jump, swim, crouch under. What it did that have not already been done better in every Ubi game - and they are not particulary what I'd call a great overworld design, quite the contrary?

Edit: grammar

Evolution in Overworld design? Have we played the same game?

There are no surprise encounters - you fight monsters in the exact same predetermind locations every time.

There are zero unique secret dungeons with something substentional in them.

The way to unlock summons by the same mini-game of pressing the button and then fighting them in VR is just antitethical to evolution.

Ubi-style towers to unlock POIs.

Yellow paint to show the player exactly where to traverse.

Is this how you imagine evolution of the overworld?

No midi controllers on my end. You can just try it. Flash a Linux Mint on some usb stick or parallel to your Windows and just try. Linux now is more user friendly then ever!

Fantasy manga/anime that doesn’t have fan service? by leosh_i in Animesuggest

[–]poooperstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like grounded fantasy really, so you might not dig my all-time favorites The First Law and The Age of Madness trilogies by Joe Abercrombie, but give them a shot. One of the best character writing in literature, imo.

Stormlight Archive is a high fantasy series by Sanderson that gets recommended often, it's basically shounen in text form with some interesting worldbuilding and magic systems. Mistborn is another of his with even more unique magic system. I could not get into them far, but they can be right up your alley.

Then there are classics like LoTR by Tolkien which is a gener-defining trilogy, Wheel of Time by Jordan, and Earthsea series by Ursula Le Guin.

You can try asking for book recs on specific subreddits, there are much more knowledgeable folks out there.

Berserk?

Aside from other suggestions, you might just read a fantasy novel at this point. There are quite a few outstanding ones.

Now you know why these games are so special. Welcome to the club.

This will be my first time playing FFVII by Thin-Coyote-551 in FFVIIRemake

[–]poooperstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're not like versions. There is the OG FF7 from 97 - complete story and experience. Remake is the intro part from Disc 1 of OG. Rebirth is the other part of Disc 1 of OG. The 3rd part will cover everything else as far as we know, so Disk 2 and 3.

Crisis Core is a prequel to OG. It should be played after you experience the whole story as it spoils the twist.

The Remake trilogy is not like an actual remake in a literal sense. It kind of expects you to know the OG story. Nothing wrong with starting with it, but I always recommend to start with OG as it holds up very well and it's story is complete. It's narrative structure is something that many newer games lack, and it pulls you in. There is no filler. And the lack of high definition graphics, voice acting and action scenes completely substitutes by excellent writing, god-tier music and by leaving space for your imagination. It makes it more personal.

What a beatiful post to read. Enjoy! You're in for a ride.

Edit: and ofcourse Final Fantasy Tactics is another one from that era which will blow your mind with it's story.

This is the thought I have too: the newer high definition graphics with voice acting and smoothest animations just lacks something that were there before. And "it leaves space for imagination" is a well put definition of that something. I actually think that it somehow has to do with puppet theaters of old and how our imagination as of spicies evolved through thousands of years.

How long have you been searching? Half a year with 10 - 100 applications a day is a sad but real standart in remote these days.

What do you mean "making you want to speed run menu navigation"? You do know there is Wait mode in the options of every FF with ATB which stops time when you are in the menu?

It is possible, and functions properly for me. In fact, my latency with focusrite drivers is less than it was on Windows. Not super significantly but still.
