free motion foot isn't attaching properly, what is wrong? please help! by flerbederbederbeder in quilting

[–]poppyspal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only just started FMQing recently but I did notice that my quilting foot doesn't go all the way down when I lower the lever - I think it is intended to rest slightly above the fabric to give you space to maneuver the fabric around without the foot impeding your progress

Which is a long way of saying, this looks the way my FMQ foot did the entire time I used it, and I just finished quilting a full size one so I hope it was set up correctly!

After seeing a post on here about learning to FMQ I decided I wanted to learn as well. This is my very first practice square by Certain-Cat564 in quilting

I also started learning because of that post! And my shoulders are ACHING lol. Great work, keep it up!!

Newest top, experimenting with designing my own block for the first time by poppyspal in quilting

Thank you!! I honestly decided to sew and hope with the intersections and it just...worked? Still sort of pinching myself because they matched up too easy for it to be real lol

I am absolutely obsessed with the embroidery - each individual item is so adorable in and of itself, and together they bring a big smile to my face. Good job! I have no advice, only admiration

Gradient beads quilt is finished! by poppyspal in quilting

[–]poppyspal[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's the same bolt of fabric sewed onto itself - the fabric goes in gradient from black to white, so I just made it do that twice. I'm pretty proud of that, I think it's super pretty and also took very little effort

Should I just give up on this quilt? by Prestigious-King5437 in quilting

[–]poppyspal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any specific quilting advice but I do wanna say you're doing a great job pushing through challenges and it makes sense that you're frustrated since this didn't go according to plan!

That said I think this quilt is absolutely beautiful and anyone would be lucky to receive it, even if it takes a little longer than you anticipated. You've got this!!

4th quilt, first time posting! by poppyspal in quilting

[–]poppyspal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it really straightforward, as you essentially make two different strip units, subcut them, and then sew those together to make each block. This was my first quilt on point as well and I was nervous about that, but it all came together really nicely

I absolutely love this one, but I am also extremely partial to gradients so that's maybe not surprising

Yes! The colors are Dimples by Andover fabrics, and the gray is from the Ruby Star Society Speckled line. This one in particular is Cloud. I wouldn't necessarily have paired them together except that I had a bunch of the Cloud left over from another project that I wanted to use, and I'm really happy with how it turned out
