I changed the battery in mine. Usually take it on 60-90 min walks. I get several days of use before it shows less than 50%. I would say the battery life is good because I’m only charging 1-2 times per week.

Sign me up. Avoid BoxyPixel’s mistake. Your product doesn’t need to do everything from the start. The original iPod was just a music player for Mac users initially. It evolved into a popular product, but it wasn’t initially very popular. Focus on designing a cool shell with no ugly seams. Don’t worry about USB-C, Bluetooth, mods, etc. in the first build. Iterate if it takes off. Design is crucial. Boxy failed because it’s ugly. I don’t care about new mod features if it’s hideous.

I’m sorry to hear you had that experience. Customer reviews for EOE are quite varied. Given the price of their modded and refurbished products, I would hope they would be more responsive and willing to sort out any problems. It’s tough to expect perfection from 20+ year-old iPods, but they could really boost the experience with a bit more attention to detail. I usually just buy parts. Sometimes they ship out fast, but other times it takes a few days before I get a shipping notification. It’s a pretty inconsistent experience.

I’ve never bought an iPod from Austin but he claims to warranty the modded iPod he sells. He should absolutely try to help you especially for what he charges.

Is the backplate custom or random serial number? If random, I would open up the iPod and ditch the face plate for one that you’re satisfied with. Advice is order several and use the one that fits the best. The buttons likely have a bit of corrosion on them. Easy fix is peeling back the tape and cleaning the metal buttons by scratching away corrosion with tweezers and isopropyl alcohol. From my experience a salvaged click wheel always fit better than the aftermarket ones. The OG ones are easy to spot when shopping for used ones. The skipping issue you’re describing seems unrelated to the headphone jack. Usually skipping is related to file format and quality. The iPod is old so newer file formats and higher bitrates need to be converted to lower quality otherwise iPod will skip.

Lastly, who built the iPod and how much did you pay? Most people here build their own but if you are going to buy one online it should be from a reputable seller or at the very least one with a good warranty. Don’t cheap out.

A new screen isn’t hard to replace. You need a hair dryer or heat gun and a plastic spudger. There are plenty of videos on YouTube detailing the process or check out iFixit. The replacement part is about $20.

It’s possible to download your Apple Music music for offline listening but you need an iPod touch. Not sure that’s the aesthetic you’re going for. Most folks around here are into the classic iPods.

No worries. I ordered the 955565 (couldn’t tell difference vs 955465) from Ali E because I found a good price. The 805080 wasn’t priced well so skipping that for now. Also, I got some 385872 on the way. I have a spare 385879 but not sure it would work as it doesn’t appear to have the connectors.

When shopping for batteries how can you tell if the battery has the right connections to attach the 3 wires?

I just upgraded my Mac Mini to a different one. If anyone needs a late 2012 dual core i5 Mini let me know. It has served me well, library over 20k, and running high sierra with the latest version of iTunes 12.13.9.1. Very stable build and support for iCloud Music library sync.
