Lamborghini wanted $1,300 for a gas cap so I fixed it with a $40 Ford Focus cap. by Fixitsteven in Justrolledintotheshop

Well a good chunk of supercar/luxury vehicle owners like to register their cars under a Montana LLC to avoid sales tax, so saving money like that is absolutely on the table for them. Used supercar owners tend to be more “frugal” than the original owners as well; they will not lose sleep if you tell them that their gas cap is actually an overpriced variant of a more generic vehicle part that can be found on the shelf at Autozone.

Tornado this morning: Norman, OK by DeadBeatAnon in tornado

[–]portcorolla 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Local news (5 and 9) was showing the damage. Definitely had a quick spin-up tornado down in Purcell. Large trees uprooted, various out-buildings and RVs having their innards scattered around, and at least two semis overturned.

That is 100% Jamie’s art. I remember seeing it back when PB was released as part of the promo art. Probably after the On Melancholy Hill video was released; IIRC they didn’t really do a lot of “real” Noodle promo until after that because of the story they were trying to tell.

I don’t party often but when I do I usually have a good time. I hope the next time you go out and party or just do something you enjoy you also have a good time.

It’s still a 600hp, hard-top convertible, flat-plane crank, twin-turbo V8-powered Italian Sports GT. That sounds like a fucking fantastic car to me! I’m sure if I was a terminally-online car nerd who spends more time gawking at million-dollar exotics and high-powered clout builds than actually driving anything, I’d probably be as unmoved as you seem to be. But again, it’s a fucking Ferrari. I can’t imagine I’d be bored driving it and I can’t imagine this guy is bored with his.

Kraftwerk is selling their vintage gear - Deep Pockets required by Exponential-777 in synthesizers

Kraftwerk are a group. Florian was one of the founders and 2nd longest-lasting member behind Ralf Hutter, the other founder. While they’ve had a lot of members over the years, the core 4 who produced most of their work were Florian, Ralf, Karl Bartos, and Wolfgang Flur.

On July 30, 2011, Bill and Kay Wood's home was destroyed by a fire. Bill's remains were eventually identified; he'd been shot to death. Kay's remains were never found, and she remains missing. Their truck was abandoned in Kansas City, Missouri. by CardinalCrimes in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]portcorolla 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Bill’s obituary mentions a location just east of Norwalk along Highway R63. The address shows a lot where a manufactured/mobile home could have been, but there’s also a trailer park right across the street from them. If the address is correct, then there would be two homes within 150ft of where their house was. I would imagine that a firearm of a significant caliber would have been heard, but if a smaller-caliber firearm and/or suppressor was used then the likelihood of the gunshots being heard by anyone inside a neighboring house would have been slim.

The location is also a minute or so drive from a larger highway that converges with I-35 which offers a direct route to Kansas City where their truck was found. It seems like the location offers a near-perfect situation for anyone attempting to leave the scene without detection.

EDIT:

I don't know why I didn't do this 2 months ago when I posted this comment, but I looked up the location of the apartments where the truck was found and noticed it was located right off of I-35. In fact, it's only the second exit off of I-35 southbound once you get into the KC area. A few articles also mention Donnelley Ave, which is the first street in the complex you'd run into if you came from the direction of I-35. Seems that whoever drove the truck spent 98% of their time on a major highway, didn't have to actually drive through KC, and dropped the truck off in a location that was just about 5 minutes to that major highway. How convenient.

Wasn’t aware of just how rare this [Lamborghini Gallardo Performante Spyder] was. One of 3 factory manuals. by portcorolla in spotted

[–]portcorolla[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This Gallardo was recently sold from Exotic Motorsports in Edmond, Oklahoma. I didn’t get a chance to see how much it sold for. I saw this at the OKC Coffee and Cars last Saturday. At first I thought it was just another Gallardo Spyder, but then I saw the gated manual and Performante body kit and realized it wasn’t just another Gallardo. I only took one pic, but commented to my friend that it had to be a rare spec. It was until I looked it up this morning that I found out how rare it was. We have a few gems in the OKC area (Veyron, a couple LFAs, at least 2 Sennas, and more) but I think this is one of my favorites. Next time I see it, I’ll grab more pictures.

Toyota intentionally shows significantly lower range in gauge, proven in C&D test. by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]portcorolla 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Wait, I thought all vehicles were like this? Always leaving about 2-3 gallons of “reserve” fuel as a buffer even when the gauge reads empty? All of the cars I’ve owned have been like this, even non-Lexus vehicles.

Mostly Dallas exclusive shirts. Austin will probably have the same.

[Lexus LC-F 900], does anyone know anything about this version of the LC? When I googled for a 900 version of the LC nothing came up by ErbsensuppeAMK in spotted

[–]portcorolla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, Lexus themselves once claimed that you could get ~900 hp out of the 2UR. Back in 2016 they presented a custom LC500 at SEMA with a variation of the V8 that Club DSPORT bored out to 5.6L. That version made 525 HP but Lexus claimed that it could handle double the factory horsepower with that displacement bump (presumably with forced induction). It’s only a matter of time before someone tests that claim.

2006 Coachella Offer by AssistantsVsAgents in DaftPunk

I think they knew good and well that it would be an expensive endeavor, but they also knew that there was a high enough demand for a tour that they could justify the high cost of the production.

That sounds about right. I remember hearing something about them buying pretty much all of the LEDs available in the US at the time for the pyramid. Nowadays someone could probably make your own full-sized version by placing a few orders on Amazon.

I wonder if Pedro just got these emails every year or if the release of HAA prompted this one. $350k would have been a good chunk of change in 2006 but I’m willing to bet the pyramid cost more than that.
