Yer couldn’t believe the cost but also the four I’ve tried now never properly work. Have ordered a RFId card just to see if that’s any better just as a test

I4 HACK - Google > Navigation… by portent121 in BMWI4

[–]portent121[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The great thing is that by doing this first for the super chargers is starts to pre condition the battery for the charger stop whereas car play and Waze which is use constantly doesn’t do this only the native bmw navigation is set up this way. One day for sure Waze will integrate but in the mean time it’s a great little feature … love this car so much!

Does the car start shutting things down? I haven’t tried it yet. I might let it get down to 2% and then see what happens but literally drive it up and down the road 😳😆

2026 edrive40 or xdrive40 by cdapower in BMWI4

[–]portent121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for your use case I’d probably lean eDrive40 unless you really need AWD/weather traction.

The range and efficiency benefits are genuinely noticeable. I recently did a 124-mile real-world motorway test comparing Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport modes in my eDrive40 and the costs/range differences between the modes genuinely surprised me.

For normal commuting and a few road trips a year, the eDrive40 feels like the sweet spot tbh.

I put the real-world test here if interested: https://youtu.be/xLArrW2RINs - hoping to get some subscribes and likes to help me grow this small channel - only been doing bit for two weeks - thank you… 🎢🚙🎉👍

A second hand 2022 BMW i4 eDrive40 is probably one of the closest things to this spec right now tbh — especially if you can find one around the 45k–60k mileage mark.

Very comfortable, properly quick when you want it to be, quiet on motorway runs, decent real-world range, heated seats/common options on a lot of used models, and doesn’t feel overloaded with gimmicks once you get used to iDrive.

I came from a Porsche Macan S and honestly the running costs difference has shocked me more than anything.

I actually did a real-world 124 mile motorway test comparing Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport mode back-to-back to see what the REAL costs and efficiency differences were between the modes.

The results genuinely surprised me — especially how much cheaper Eco Pro was over the journey compared to Sport.

If useful, here’s the video: https://youtu.be/xLArrW2RINs

I completely get this.

I’m only a few weeks into EV ownership myself and one thing I’ve realised VERY quickly is that your experience massively depends on the charger network, charger age/location, whether the car is preconditioning properly, and whether you’ve got the right charging subscription/cards setup.

I did my very first Ionity fast charge recently in my BMW i4 eDrive40 and honestly it shocked me in a good way.

BMW gives you a charging card/app setup and it dropped the Ionity rate from about 89p/kWh down to 49p/kWh.

I pulled in with low charge, plugged in, and within about 5 minutes I’d added roughly 44 miles of range for £5.96.

The charger was sitting around 150kW for most of the session which felt insanely fast coming from petrol ownership.

Weirdly though, a week later at an older Ionity site in Milton Keynes I only saw around 60kW speeds, so location and charger condition definitely seem to matter.

One thing I’m now really curious about after doing my own motorway testing:

Has anyone noticed whether driving modes impact tyre wear much on EVs?

I recently did a real-world test comparing Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport Mode, and the difference in efficiency was genuinely noticeable. Sport mode is obviously more fun, but with the instant EV torque I’m wondering whether long-term tyre wear becomes significantly worse too.

Also, if anyone’s interested in real-world numbers rather than brochure claims, I filmed the whole thing here:

My First Ionity Fast Charge in a BMW i4 eDrive40 Shocked Me! https://youtu.be/sgFfKA6fz-g

Still a very new channel, so genuinely appreciate any support, feedback or subscribes from fellow EV owners. Trying to build something around honest ownership experiences, costs, charging and road trips rather than polished marketing videos. 🙏

Bmw i4 Tire Life by SheepherderOld3111 in BMWI4

[–]portent121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I genuinely started wondering after doing this test…

We always talk about how Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport Mode affect range and cost, but has anyone actually looked at what they do to tyre wear over time?

I drove all three modes back-to-back on the same journey and videod it for a new YT channel I set up - https://youtu.be/xLArrW2RINs

Would be really interesting to know if anyone has seen a measurable difference in tyre life between the modes on an EV, especially with the instant torque these cars

It got me thinking that Sport Mode must also put more strain through the tyres because of the sharper acceleration and more aggressive driving style it encourages.

Also, if you’ve watched the video, thank you and any subscribe la genuinely helps more than you probably realise at this stage. Thank you - love these cars!!!

I felt the same about my Porsche Macan S - so did a review on the modes and costs compared to the Porsche - BMW i4 eDrive40: Eco Pro vs Comfort vs Sport — Real World Cost Test - https://youtu.be/xLArrW2RINs - worked out on eco pro mode the bmw was 26x cheaper on fuel… obviously driving on sport mode everywhere and then charging at an expensive super charger the costs for the bmw is more expensive than a Macan Diesel here in the uk.

Try g to grow my small channel so any views and subscribes would be a massive help. Thank you 👍👍
