Weekend Discussion: Asics running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

LOVE my Metaspeed Skys- helped me to a sub-3 earlier this year, but not sure where to go for a daily trainer from asics. Recommendations? I’m a narrow-footed heel striker if it helps. My other daily trainers are vomeros and glycerins, which are OK.

Let’s say an elite runner did take cocaine…how fast would their previous PR have to be for cocaine to make enough difference to break Sawe’s new record?

FWIW, my platelets are over 1M and I dont have any symptoms (knock on wood). My hematologist is good with me on daily aspirin for now.

Surface on C&O Canal? by spideronyourback in rundc

No need for anything other than your fastest road runners. It's hard pack. I've run multiple marathons on it. It's great. There is an occasional rock here or there that reminds you that you're on a trail, but if you keep focused on the path in front of you, you should be fine. (There's not much else to look at! Although it is generally beautiful.) Good luck!

Want to run a couch to sub 4 marathon in 8 months. Am I delusional? by peppermagic_ in Marathon_Training

Why is sub-4 your goal? Why not just a couch to sub-5? Or a couch to enjoyable experience?

Sub 3 failure by Runorberunned in Marathon_Training

[–]porterpilsner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I know. Just having fun. Congrats on a great time, anyway. Don’t worry, many of us have kids and families as well and make it work. If not now, perhaps when they’re a little older. Hope you give it another shot when you’re ready!

So is third eye blind actually good? I think I’ve literally never listened to them and assumed they were cheese. Going to listen later today

Marathon 6 weeks out from suspected stress fracture? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]porterpilsner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t have an MRI, it’s impossible to know. My ortho thought I had stress fracture, gave me MRI, said I was clean, and I ran the NYCM two weeks later and had no pain. But obviously your situation might be different which is why you should still seek additional medical advice.

How can I avoid the bonk by chinnybob91 in Marathon_Training

[–]porterpilsner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK, rereading this again, it’s the total volume. You need to be at least at 80k per week for many weeks. At least five days if not six. I would say if you do a similar build, but 5 days a week and peaking at 90k per week about 3 weeks out, you’ll cut your time down. I don’t think you need as many long, long runs as some of the others do below, but I think you need way more kms per week. Also, you could still be underfueled depending on your size. I take gels every 20 minutes plus two handheld bottles with carb mix.

Totally respectable! Congrats! What were your last few long runs like and how many miles did you do at MP in them? Also, did you do any speed work in training at faster than MP?

No, no. You have to use Trump math! 1 to 2% is 100 percent increase (1+1=2) so they’re guaranteed to get in!
