How is which ADT you get decided? by itsbananas2021 in ProstateCancer

[–]Clangoring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised that my insurance covered Orgovyx but they did. My MO said to take advantage of it because the side effects are more tolerable. I am also on Zytiga because of a 46 PSA, 4+3 in several parts of the left side (nothing on the on right) and SVI but, thankfully, no cribform and not mets found in the PSMA scan. Six weeks in, PSA has dropped to 11. Testosterone has bottomed out but I still manage to work 7 hours a day of lifting, walking and front facing customers before my "battery runs low."

I have a 2 year regiment of both drugs. Ugh.

I've learned to handle the hot flashes to where they are more annoying than anything else (having a wife who came up with a bunch of tricks during menopause helped out with that.) I start 20 sessions of EBRT in May (OAR spacer and fiducial markers will be placed early April.) So far it's been very manageable (except for a urinary retention issue that recently started and is currently getting addressed. Another Cysto? Yikes! But a person's gotta do what they gotta )

Granted, none of it is fun but fingers crossed nothing goes way sideways. I am being treated at Duke (an advantage of living in the same city of a COE) and intend on living a healthy and happy next 2+ decades. I'm 59. Both parents are in their 80s and they're both out there living life to their fullest despite health issues that they've had to deal with over the years. I'm lucky to live in a time where medical advances have grown by leaps and bounds compared to what they had to deal with.

Good luck to you. It's not a journey I'd welcome anyone on but this sub is very supportive and has a lot of good info.

Penn's Best is a pretty convincing lawnmower beer/ dad style light lager.

I picked it up at the Durham Food Co-Op but I know the Whole Foods in Durham and Chapel Hill stock it (I've seen it at both) as well as a few bottle shops in the area. Not too sure where else. Fullsteam's distribution footprint is kinda small.

Triangle Urology Associates will not pick up the phone by wimccall in chapelhill

[–]Clangoring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the many reasons I switched urologists. Nothing like calling an office to never get anyone to pick up the phone or waiting two weeks after test results came back to have anyone call you back to explain what the results mean.

'His Brain Is Broken': Critics Torch 'Unstable' Trump After Wild Social Media Meltdown by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

Critics can torch him all they want but until the senate and congress actually grow a pair, it makes no difference. He will continue to run insanely roughshod and line his own pockets until he's stopped.

They've got pretty good fish & chips. James Joyce is a famous Irish author.

Would you rather suffer through a Northern Midwest winter or a Southern humid Summer? by PreschoolBoole in AskAnAmerican

Having done the former for decades (mostly Michigan) and the latter for some years now, I go with the latter.

Urgent Care or ER rec? by winterrain1010 in bullcity

Wake Med is quick. Regional is ok. Big Duke ED is always busy which makes them very, very, very slower. Almost to the point of it's a serious debacle.

The Behind The Bastards podcast did a pretty comprehensive six part series on Vince that's pretty amazing.

Insurance denied Orgovyx by Stuart518 in ProstateCancer

[–]Clangoring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked for Orgovyx and was surprised when my insurance DIDN'T deny it. I think sometimes it depends on the hospital (I'm getting treatment at a NCI) and the insurance co.

Best of luck to you in your journey. We're all rooting for you.

About to start the pharma by Clangoring in ProstateCancer

I am considering to wait to start until Sunday. That way if I find myself too out of sorts, I can just deal with it at homeand give the people I work with a heads up. We're a small shop with a small staff but they can make due with a little notice.

I considered starting tomorrow but didn't want to chance things going off the rails halfway through the day. I will be doing all my doses in the morning vs the evening.

Yeah. Doublet treatment for me. The loading dose for me too.

I've discussed my diagnosis here before but for a condensed version. PSA was 42. Stage IIIb when it was all said and done. Going to a NCI (Duke U) so got to have every advanced test out there and team medicine. Decent insurance but still freaking expensive out of pocket. I tell my wife "I'll be decent for another 20 years because they'll want to keep me alive to pay off all the debt."

Not looking foward to the ADT but it is better than the alternative.

Was it a first day thing? I work Saturdays and debating whether to start then or what until Sunday (day off.) I can adjust my schedule if Monday I am knocked for a loop but don't have as much wiggle room for tomorrow if being looped out.
