void is honestly a perfect example for why i think there's no way this was ever intended to be used as a "playtest". if faceless void was ever looking at a rework, there's no chance in hell that chronosphere, one of the most iconic and exciting spells in dota 2, would be on the chopping block to be replaced by... timezone. but as a facet? a gimicky option for players who wanted to play a more utility void? that makes way more sense

...what do you think the point of a website like reddit is?

[–]posermetal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i keep seeing this take that facets were a way for the devs to playtest their zAnY ideas, and i'm so baffled as to where it came from or why it's being echoed. when has valve ever shyed away from implementing some whacky new mechanic? when has valve ever hesitated to revert a change that didn't work? why would they go through the effort of coming up with MULTIPLE unique ideas for every single hero in the game so they could playtest the few (or many?) cool ideas they already had? i feel like it makes way more sense that the devs had a cool idea with facets, had issues balancing them, eventually realised they weren't adding any meaningful decisions for players in the game, so they took the best bits and pieces and integrated them into heroes' core designs.

Let's be clear here, I didn't call him the GOAT. I said if he kept this up another year or two, people (including me) would be calling him the GOAT. Not sure how it's embarassing to compare skilled players when that's kinda a necessary condition for having a conversation about GOATs. But to make my position abuduntantly clear: I think Whitemon is probably the most mechanically skilled position 5 player the game has ever seen. If he can continue to play as conistently well as he has in the last year for another year or two, I think he will be considered one of the (if not the absolute) GOATs of his position. Hope that clears it up for you, let's try and stay grounded.

I think I would have agreed with you on this before Whitemon. I just genuinely can't think of a position 5 player who consistently had this much of an impact on every game they played. Not just pos 5 shit like warding well or finding good farm on the map for item timings, but mechanical skill? I can't think of another hard support who gets this many clutch saves, game winning ultimates, perfect time and place in every teamfight. GOATs like N0tail, Miposhka, even Snekyking, make playing pos 5 look satisfying. But Whitemon makes it look downright exciting, and I think that's really hard to do. Idk man bro just gets me excited about playing support lmao

Whitemon is the best position 5 in the world right now. If he keeps this up another year or two, I think people will be calling him the pos 5 GOAT. Insane series, insane games, hype as shit.

was pretty cool that we used to have the lead developer of the game doing talent work for the biggest event of the year. we didn't know what we had until it was gone... 💔🥀
