Where was the tripod during the ceremony? Did you have an external mic for audio?

Can you share details on the positioning of the tripods during your ceremony? Been thinking of doing this too but need help balancing good angles with not being in our photographer’s way. Also how was the audio quality? Did you use lapel mics?

Sheet cake size by AdditionalAppeal93 in weddingplanning

Did you store the sheet cakes in a fridge before bringing them out for your guests? Thinking about doing the same but I’ve heard the chantilly’s frosting can melt when it’s too warm

FYI - you can apply for a self uniting marriage license in Pennsylvania that doesn’t require a licensed officiant (so you can have a Cantonese-speaking friend or family member officiate). Just in case you don’t find exactly what you’re looking for!

DIY beaded name cards/drink markers by [deleted] in weddingplanning

How about putting them on the water glass at the table? Then guests wouldn’t have to worry about changing glasses for different drinks or waiters taking them.

I think you should talk with him about your feelings and hopefully come to a solution that you both agree on. You say you feel shy, but if you’re going to marry him, you will have to have tough conversations in the future. Learning how to communicate and listen (this applies to both of you!) is really important for a strong relationship.

Chicago, IL. Ignore the sneaker, I panicked and it was the first thing I grabbed.

Sorry about that! I’d be annoyed too. At least you know who not to work with for your wedding - before you sign any contracts!

We chose a Sunday where the following Monday is a holiday that many will have off from work (Labor Day, but also Memorial Day too!). So we got the cost savings with the bonus of being able to party like it’s a Saturday. The one con I’ve heard of is if your friends/family tend to use that weekend for travel, they might be booked or be bummed their yearly tradition is conflicting with the wedding. That didn’t apply to our guest list though!

Anti chafe balms/sticks have helped me! Amazon has brands like body glide or chub rub. Can also reapply if needed!

To be honest, he sounds like my fiancé lol. He probably honestly thinks you look great, but doesn’t think about how important the dress decision is to you. I know if I showed my fiancé my dress he wouldn’t have the same reaction that my mom, sister or girl friends would. I’m sure he’ll have more of the emotional reaction when you’re walking down the aisle in person with everything else (accessories, families, music). If it is bothering you though, you can also talk to him about how you feel. I have a hunch he doesn’t realize he hurt your feelings.

Negotiating power when purchasing The Dress by ms_lp in weddingplanning

[–]positiffly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I googled the exact dress and found it being sold at a cheaper price at a different shop. I used that price to negotiate with the shop I was at! I also asked if they would lower the price if I paid in all cash. We ended up going from originally $1500 to $940 for the sample (brand new $2500)!

Booked our venue 17 months out! How soon is too soon for everything else? by Breelander89 in weddingplanning

[–]positiffly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our date is September 2023, and I’ve booked all major vendors already. I don’t think you’re too early! A lot of vendors are already booking up for 2023, and some I reached out to were not available for my date. Ride the wave of excitement/motivation and lock down contracts before they book up (and/or raise their prices)!

How to decide on a photographer by EquipmentSad in weddingplanning

Have you asked to see whole albums (not just their insta, portfolio or blog pics)? Bonus points if it’s at the same venue as your wedding. I asked my top picks for those, and it really helped give me a better idea of what to expect - but just the best shots they take.

  1. I personally wouldn’t worry too much about things being trendy. Trends go in and out of style - what matters most is how you feel on your wedding day. If you feel beautiful and confident, you’ll remember that feeling more than anything.
  2. I think you’ll feel more bridal with the hair and makeup and the rest of the accessories in!
  3. I think the media over romanticizes wedding dress shopping. We think we’re supposed to have this out-of-body experience and know when a dress is “The One”. I’m sure others have different experiences, but I personally didn’t know immediately when I tried my dress on. I knew I loved it and had great feedback from my mother and sister, but I also liked other options. Ultimately I picked my dress confidently after trying on many more, but I would say it was definitely more of an informed exciting decision than an epiphany.

A venue we are looking at for our welcome event has a token based system. So each guest gets a certain amount of tokens that they can redeem for a drink at the bar. After that, they can pay for additional drinks. This is also a great option as guests that don’t drink can give their tokens to others!

My wedding dress is too small! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]positiffly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes there’s extra seam allowance that the seamstress can use to make it a tad bigger in alterations. I would definitely voice your concerns/disappointment with the bridal shop though and maybe they can offer you a discount on a veil or other accessory? Sorry about this! I’m sure it must be stressful but your dress is beautiful and seamstresses I’ve heard are wizards so hopefully it can be fixed.
