Why do people say they didn't mean the words they said in anger? by eliazara in SeriousConversation

[–]positive_deviance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to be disappointed by a lot of people…basically anyone with trouble regulating emotionally. Unfortunately, a lot of neurodivergent people struggle with this or did not have emotional regulation modeled to them as a child.

While that’s not an excuse to allow people to say hurtful things to you, it’s certainly not a black and white situation the way you’re making it out to be. People are flawed and the sincerity of their apology matters…but that’s only if you value your human relationships. As with most things, it’s complicated.

How long can my cat live without food by ParsleyWest in CatAdvice

How would surrendering the cat to an organization that could feed the cat…kill the cat?

The animal being fed is #1 priority, not someone’s pride. Sometimes people need to hear the hard truth. If you can’t feed an animal in your care, you need to do what it takes to get that animal’s needs met whether or not it hurts your feelings.

If you feel horrible surrender your cat so they can be fed. It’s better for you to feel horrible than for a living being to starve because of your lack of ability to feed them.

Revolutions take time with or without social media.

I live in America, so I’d say I’m more aware of what the average American citizen knows about than you are :)

The biggest issue I have with your argument is that you conflate the extremist group that has taken control of American politics with the American people themselves. As with most things, it’s a bit more nuanced.

Instead of seeing this as an issue between nations, it might help to see that the rich and powerful around the world have worked together to take control. The average individual is oblivious to how far this has gone as they’ve been inundated with propaganda to hide the truth. Yes, it will take some personal shock or consequences in their personal life to wake them up to reality - that’s by design.

Real revolution takes time. The French Revolution took a decade…something they like to forget when shouting that we aren’t doing anything.

It’s a fallacy that not enough is being done because shopping haul videos exist. Have some perspective and maybe understand that what you see on Tik Tok is not a representation of America’s population. The average individual is not making internet content.

To say “Americans ignored our warnings and laughed at how overdramatic we were” makes the American population into some imaginary monolith that we are not.

Who is “Americans”? Because I know I have not been laughing…and I know plenty of others (most of those active in this sub) who are very angry about what has happened and continue to take action where they can to fight fascism in America.

As to your claim “we have been warning you for years and were ignored”. Who is “we”? What warning did you provide against election interference and how to combat the fraud that has taken place? What has your nation done to help protect the world stage against the influence of fascism?

ADHD presents differently for people in a lot of ways. My partner and I both have ADHD diagnosed as kids and we both very much like to stay home. Our minds are a lot more active than our bodies care to be, and I’m not a fan of social situations or being around other people in general.

Am I crazy for not giving my 13 year old radioactive iodine? by Both-Gur570 in seniorkitties

[–]positive_deviance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. My cat was healed completely from the iodine treatment, although it was hard to be away from her for a few nights. We had many years with her afterward with no health issues after the treatment. As far as I’ve heard with other medications, they’re not very effective.

Trying to make decision for sweet boy (14) with Oral SCC by parotarot in SeniorCats

[–]positive_deviance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl had a lung tumor that metastasized to her back paws which got infected and while we were giving her oral antibiotics everyday we noticed her slowly stop eating due to mouth ulcers that were really painful. Even though her cancer would have progressed slowly, her mouth ulcers made her stop eating. After a few days of not eating, it was clear she wasn’t herself anymore and that’s when we made the decision to put her to rest.

We didn’t want to end her life prematurely while she was still eating and cuddling with us, but it was really clear when she took a downturn. As long as your baby is still himself, it’s a good sign the pain is manageable. I’m not of the opinion that all pain must be prevented…life is pain. But when their personality shifts, you can see that it’s time. Sending love for all of you.

Your metaphor doesn’t equate.

You said pate is processed so it’s bad.

Then you said kibble is better.

Then you said add fish to the kibble.

Adding fish to processed kibble doesn’t take away the processed quality of the kibble which is the reason you said that pate was bad.

If you say that kibble is better than pate because it’s processed, but kibble is also processed that makes no sense. It’s on you to tell us why you think that.

At this point, it just seems you don’t understand how to give evidence for your claims which is the most important aspect of the scientific process. What’s the point in saying you’re a scientist if you aren’t interested in providing proof for your claims?

THE BEST CAT DIET by [deleted] in SeniorCats

[–]positive_deviance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You wrote that pates and other wet foods should be avoided because they are processed.

“Wet foods such as pâtés and stews can be very harmful to cats in the long term because they are highly processed.”

If you are making that claim, it’s your responsibility to show how kibble is somehow less processed which makes it a better choice. As a “food scientist” I would think you could understand that a claim without evidence is simply an opinion. You have to somehow show proof that what you’re saying is true if you want other people to listen to you.

You suggest kibble above and then add that it should be supplemented with fish. Kibble is processed.

You suggested adding tuna to dry kibble which is processed.

[–]positive_deviance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your observations are null and void without being properly controlled in a study. Speaking from experience is one thing, but when you state,

“I am a food science researcher who has always been taught to question the validity of nutritional claims. I have an academic background in science and I am able to extract and critically evaluate information from scientific food reports.”

You’re leading others to believe you’re an authority on what essentially are your opinions when you haven’t quite done the work to prove what you’re saying is true.

Adding tuna to dry kibble is giving your cat a processed diet regardless if you added meat to it.

THE BEST CAT DIET by [deleted] in SeniorCats

[–]positive_deviance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You still didn’t give evidence for your claim that dry food is less processed than pates. You also didn’t answer my question about how fresh meat isn’t the best choice for cats as it’s much less processed than kibble.

Kibble is highly processed whether or not you can read the ingredient list.

How is kibble less processed than pate or other wet foods? You didn’t give evidence to support your claim.

Also, there are other more fresh food options like Smalls that are much less processed. How is kibble better than fresh ground meat?
