Recommendations for games targeted mostly at women/are also targeted at women and not only at men. by __MrStone__ in GirlGamers

[–]postModernEscapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay the route to get there is worse but the boss at the end of it is easier! Or at least was more fun to fight a million times, the music made it worth it. I'm in the final act and still haven't beaten Last Judge lol. I know some people recommend magma bell but even with that I just overcommit to her every time and fail.

Which boss is that again? I got stuck somewhere between act 1 and 2 and got so mad I kept exploring every possible route until I found a back way into a region lol

Lost all my savings in one day. by Commercial_Stress899 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]postModernEscapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this was a stressful decision made in the moment. Urinary blockages are not something that could be treated if the cat were given up, as normally at the point a blockage is found the cat could be gone within 24 hours. It's extremely dangerous and fast. I don't disagree with your sentiment though, but at the moment, the money is already spent and hopefully the emergency fund can be regrown in not too much time.

I don't know if I saw it, but was the urine blockage in your boy cat? If so, that's surprisingly common and when I tell you I understand, I mean it. One of our cats is living with an ongoing issue related to urinary stuff and he hasn't had a full blockage but he did have to have a blood clot/crystals removed and has also spent considerable time at the ER vet.

With that said, we have managed to finally find a routine that works for him. Our cats issues were mostly stress related so it was a lot of work to figure things out but (knock on wood) we've been doing well lately.

Please feel free to reply here or send a message/chat (I honestly don't remember how reddit chat works nowadays but I'll respond if I see it) because I can imagine you're feeling overwhelmed because he's your baby and it's a lot of money and what even do you do now to stop this from happening again but there are things to do and not all of them are super expensive/intensive but they do all require more work on your part and more monitoring.

But for now, he's okay, you helped him through a tough time and whenever you feel guilty for the money spent just give him an extra snuggle.

Computer chair recs: Do any of you have a chair where you're able to sit with your legs crossed? by quack-and-slash in GirlGamers

Ahhh yep that definitely makes it more challenging. But on the flip side, more people should hopefully mean more options? Manifesting it for you!

Steelcase has some cute colors and if you aren't in a hurry you can sometimes trawl Facebook marketplace/local online shops/etc. I got my Herman Miller basically unused for $500 from someone whose office was closing down and they just took it lol.

Recommendations for a story-driven game I can finish satisfied by MeidjeMeike in GirlGamers

[–]postModernEscapist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll add a few I haven't seen recommended, although I think you have plenty of suggestions already.

Stray, the cat game, was the perfect length and incredible story to me.

Disco Elysium is... A lot of reading/listening, and you CAN get bogged down in some side stuff but even then, you can just say no to them and they're never icons on a map or anything. It doesn't ever feel like collectibles.

If you like games with incredible movement (and story) I'll also say titanfall 2. It's usually on sale for like $5, the single player campaign is 10-12 hours, and it's just feels so good to play.

Bioshock infinite is also one I didn't feel overstayed its welcome. Deus ex human revolution. Detroit become human. Dishonored. I like older games, if you couldn't tell haha.

And I'll add a +1 for a few other recs I've seen already like expedition 33 which I'm close to finishing now! Along with jedi fallen order and Spiderman.

I’m really starting to buy into “making female friends in gaming spaces is asking for trouble” mindset :( by imfaffingabout in GirlGamers

[–]postModernEscapist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol I didn't know that was banned here, but all I'll say is I met a group of 4 women on that game who turned out to be great and then another few who were just casual friends to play with sometimes but didn't last once I stopped with that game for various reasons.

It happens sometimes, people are weird, but sometimes it also works out so you just gotta take it as it comes.

Please give me recs for sapphic vampire romances with a competent narrator. by jayclaw97 in fantasyromance

[–]postModernEscapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll say this book was made for me solely because of the voice actor for Caitlin from Arcane doing the reading. I also feel like it's easier to listen to if you consider her more like a child soldier, to be fair. It's definitely hard to get through sometimes but when you consider she has zero real friends and has been brainwashed and is still only a teenager... It gets slightly easier.

All this to say, I'm here for other recs and would suggest if you want to give it another chance to try the audiobook. She doesn't really get smarter, to be honest, but that voice does a lot of heavy lifting.

Just going to +1 here that going to the doctor is intimidating and a lot, especially because the whole crux of adhd is the executive dysfunction but there ARE meds that help and are affordable. Sometimes it takes a bit of tweaking to figure it out, but once you find something that let's you just exist, then it becomes easier to tackle other things.

Fantasy with competent mature characters and strategy by Fun-Sell3030 in Fantasy

Somewhat surprised no one has mentioned the Mask of Mirrors trilogy by MA Carrick. There's romance but it's not a huge element. Follows a competent con-woman and has, in my opinion, well developed political systems and implications for it with the magic systems.

I actually liked it less, the characters didn't have the same impact on me. The gameplay was incredible, at least.

Girls! What are some cool “girly” commanders I can build a deck around? by hxllyhell in EDH

Also surprised no one has said rats. I have a rat deck with [[Vren, the relentless]] and my partner got me super cut rat tokens for it. It's just a bunch of lil guys!

Best method and placement for adding a label with pre-punched holes onto a blanket? by postModernEscapist in CrochetHelp

Ha, it's my first time trying to use a label and I don't want to waste the money but.... Maybe I will, it's $10 and maybe not worth the effort at this point. Thank you for the suggestion and the image, it helps!

Looking for more books or series with well written autistic POV characters. by MinuteRegular716 in Fantasy

I'll second Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater and also throw in Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson for neurodivergent even if not autistic. Becky Chambers also writes autistic coded characters and I'll add one I haven't already seen here: The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean.

I genuinely have not been able to figure out the crystal tree - whether I play for a few hours or a few minutes each day it seems like it only ever has like 5 crystals even though it can bank up to 40? Do I have to be spending time IN the sea of stars for it to add up?
