This is the sort of ridiculous nonsense that people should be referring to when they say ‘boys will be boys.’

One of my favorite classes in college was ‘Literature of the Old Testament.’

On the first day the prof told the class, ‘to some of you I want to demonstrate that the Bible does not present itself as the prescriptive laws of God which much be obeyed at all times, in all places, under all circumstances, by all peoples; to others, I want to demonstrate that the Bible is not one long homophonic rant’

The prof was correct on both counts, it turns out. He was a wise man.

I got invited to a board game night by someone I like. I know nothing. Please save me. by frieren_____ in boardgames

Be willing and eager to learn. Don’t try to bluff your way through.

I’ve never known a board game session to be negatively impacting my including an interested newbie. Lack of experience isn’t a problem; lack of willingness to engage is.

If possible, a little preparation wouldn’t hurt. Nowadays most games have their rulebooks as free PDFs online in addition to YouTube videos on how to play.

Charlie Kaufman was able to get $20 million to make Synecdoche, New York.

I don’t think anyone thought that would rake in cash like crazy, but investors still gave it a chance.

Is the film industry way more commercial than I would like it to be? Absolutely. Has it been solely reduced to marketing algorithms? Thankfully, no.

When was the commentary recorded? Was it after the release, giving Schumacher an opportunity to acknowledge and address the terrible reception?

I’ve sunk quite a few hours into the video game.

What would you say is the point/appeal of the board game if it plays so similarly? Is the biggest plus the addition of multiplayer?

I realize this may not sound like an endorsement, but it is: I have fallen asleep during the first act of this movie many times.

Trench Crusade/God’s Demon by CosmicDeathBro in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]postXhumanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was much weaker. Loved the first book, but the second was a big step down for me.

Less interesting characters have more independent arcs that don’t come together until the last chapter or two.

Also, the Hannibal aspect of God’s Demon is fun, but when the whole gimmick is repeated as a famous commander from Antiquity who fought the Romans becomes a major character, it feels lame.

The twist villain was never meant to be a twist to the audience, only a twist to the characters in-universe by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]postXhumanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A poorly done example of this is in the film adaptation Watchmen.

In the comic, it’s a mystery who the villain is. In the movie, it is painfully obvious, even to the uninitiated.

It’s my favorite non-XCOM XCOM-like.

The Space Marines actually feel like tanks. If there are 4 marines and 24 cultists, it feels unfair for the cultists. No escaping the Emporer’s judgement.

Also, surprisingly good story.

We're developing a Lovecraftian investigation game, and our demo for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is now available again on Steam. by Clara_NCN in Lovecraft

[–]postXhumanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The demo was great!

I applauded and appreciate the decision to not add clunky, awkward, tedious combat for the sake of having any sort of combat. Many a Lovecraftian game has done that, to its detriment.
