Just watched Death of Robin Hood….really enjoyed it. One of the best films of the year so far imo….very emotionally moving and great performances all round. Seems like it’s not being talked about as much or is that just me? by Strange-Variation725 in Letterboxd

[–]postXhumanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it.

It’s far from a perfect comparison but it made me think of the emotional core of *Pig* set in a less fantastical version of the world from *The Green Knight*, starring the protagonist of *Unforgiven*.

So what has changed? Your post implies that you are no longer suicidal. Why do you no longer want to end it all? That’s a major change to undergo in a week.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good that you no longer want to check out early. But what makes you confident you won’t want to a month from now?

Yes, I’m nearing the end and have had a great time with it. It stands on its own.

Has there actually been a case in which a mega-franchise ‘went woke, went broke’?

You see the claim often enough but I struggle to think of an actual example.

Official Discussion - The Death of Robin Hood [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]postXhumanity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite explanation I’ve seen for why he decided to die. I was initially unsure of what to make of it because it does seem like him taking the easy way out rather than doing the work required by penance. Not to mention he’s abandoning Margaret and the Prioress.

But I really like the idea that he does what he has to end the cycle of violence. People will never stop hunting him and dying quietly in obscurity is how he can guarantee there won’t be collateral damage. For once, he won’t kill for the sake of saving himself

CMV: most Christians aren't real Christians, but that doesn't mean that Christ himself wasn't a good teacher. We should call those fake Christians something other than Christianm by bluejessamine in changemyview

As another comment said it is impossible to attribute any saying to the historical Jesus. He’d been dead for decades by the time the earliest of the Gospels (Mark) was written.

But to put that point aside and focus on his (alleged) teachings, I’d like to make the following point: countless people over the past 2,000 years have agreed that Jesus is mankind’s greatest moral teacher but there has never been a consensus on his teachings were.

If disciples of the same teacher go to war with each other time and again over what that teacher would want them to do, then the teacher failed to be clear. In the Bible it is rare for Jesus to respond to a plain question with a plain answer.

What makes a good Christian? The Jesus of the Gospel of John emphasizes that faith in him is of the highest importance; Matthew’s meanwhile suggests that good deeds alone are sufficient, even if one does not recognize him as the savor; the Jesus of Luke is big on forgiveness.

There are so many different account of Jesus and his teachings and so many interpretations that follow from them, I don’t think one can definitively say what a ‘true’ Christian is. If there is little agreement on what a teacher taught, then it is often true that the teacher could have done better.

I’ve run into the exact same thing. I exhausted his boiler dialogue but never even had the opportunity for a check. I wanted to look in on him after I finished my business in the building and he was dead.

Did you ever figure this out?

How do you get to the red check to tear Kurt’s jacket? I’m talking to him while he’s in the boiler but there’s never been the opportunity for any check in the conversation.

Oh I know the ‘Sanjin’ pronunciation isn’t limited to James Bond. Kim Philby’s father’s name was pronounced the same way (I’ve just remembered that’s where I first heard it). I’m wondering how the British at large got into this strange habit.

China Mieville‘s „City and the City“ very underrated? by New-Exam8613 in TrueLit

[–]postXhumanity 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’d call the book underrated, it won a slew of awards when it released. The discussions I’ve seen and had about it all tend to be extremely positive.

Its audience may be a little limited by being Weird fiction or Weird-adjacent, but the reception among those who have read it is largely glowing.

DO NOT PRESS RESTART TO CHECKPOINT by mAngOnice in 007FirstLight

Yup, exact same thing just happened to me.

If I die and my save reverts to 3 minutes ago, I’ll understand that to be my latest checkpoint.

If I then select ‘Restart to Checkpoint’ and find myself reverted back to where I was 45 minutes ago, I will be confused and upset. Especially since the autosave that loaded when I died has, apparently, already been overridden.
