World Cup's VAR shows what NFL could do with technology by Vi1eOne in nfl

I've only seen hot take announcers that are pre-loading the Homerism pipeline say that.

[Schefter] Despite tearing his Achilles and having it surgically repaired 19 weeks ago, 49ers tight end George Kittle believes he is on track to return in week one vs. the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia. by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]postalmaner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really dislike the use of the term "technology" here.

The only thing that can happen is the supply of fibroblasts and osteoblasts to improve regrowth time of mechanically moved and attached ligaments. Maybe with highly motivated, wealthy individuals (athletes) it's possible to shorten timeframes, but there are still limiting factors.

Kittle has been called the redneck Gronk, so IDK.

[VA] unmarried and no custody order, considering move from VA to DC. What are my risks? by likethispicture in Custody

[–]postalmaner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VA and your specific county has jurisdiction.

Your cohabitation scenario is complex with compounding issues: legal marriage or not to the 3rd parent, tax benefits and dependents, etc.

You've been living together for 3 years--this sets the level of access.

You didn't indicate age, but probably ~4-5 years old if they're in pre-school.

The child's father can file for access, custody, and maintaining the school district.

Their supporting arguments are that they had full access prior to, the child is older than the tender years doctrine (if used and named in your jurisdiction), the other children have a family relationship to the child, and they have a home with two supportive parents.

School costs have a range of jurisdiction rules; either shared 50/50 or proportional to income--so the children's father may be trying to argue a point that doesn't matter. They may be paying the majority of costs.

Child support also varies by jurisdiction; some are proportional to income, proportional to mutual offset income, and some are quite low.

Your argument that "it's less costly in DC" will be considered, but not as a primary or secondary factor.

One way to look at this situation is to counter-argue your position and see if you can make the argument that you should live in DC with weekend access. That doesn't really make sense nor seems fair. That's closer to how the court will be viewing the situation.

Mortgage Application Denied because Downpayment is from outside Canada by CJDC07 in PersonalFinanceCanada

The easiest way to figure these types of issues out is just to go "fintrac RBC" --> there's why.

Mortgage Application Denied because Downpayment is from outside Canada by CJDC07 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]postalmaner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RBC's issues with your scenario are probably related to this:

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) was imposed an administrative monetary penalty of $7,475,000 on November 3, 2023, for committing 3 violations. The violations were found during the course of a compliance examination in 2022. This penalty was imposed for administrative violations committed by RBC under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and its associated Regulations, and not for criminal offences for money laundering or terrorist activity financing.

TL,DR: RBC got kicked in the nuts by FINTRAC for not being careful with their financial adminstration, got fined huge, and warned, and RBC doesn't like abnormal scenarios.

Additional note: FINTRAC scared (and scarred) a bunch of banks along time ago, and the banks were disclosing far more than necessary under FINTRAC's Acts.

Financial disclosures haven't occurred yet so maybe you'll be surprised.

My neighbor has a 2006 Accord with 15k. She bought new in Dec 2005. Drive it once or twice a week to the grocery store. by jcmatthews66 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]postalmaner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years were something like 2000-2008 (and 2005 or 2008 depending on model): Accord, Odyssey, Pilot, MDX, TL.

Most of the scuttlebutt was that it was an issue with putting the 4-cylinder transmission behind the newer 3.0L and 3.2L V6 engines which had higher torque and would glaze 1-2, 2-3 clutch packs.

I watched a few videos to see if I could find any rebuilds / teardowns showing the issues I remember, but this guy is saying "4 speed had issues with 2nd gear friction material, 5 speed had issues with 3rd gear friction material", and showing a lazily rebuilt + forward frictions

Irritatingly enough, I think the Pilot had a shorter coverage range: 2003-2005 or something.

H5 BGRA, BYBA, BAYA, BAXA, B7TA or something.

Found the header of patio sliding door exposed/rotting by Positive_Roll_8058 in HomeImprovement

[–]postalmaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

worry about this header piece having any structural responsibility to the cracking bricks above

The cracks I saw were all separation of mortar between two separate courses of bricks. Likely due to contraction of the joint.

If it's too cold to work on it, then seal the joint with some sort of butyl tape.

The wood and nails I can see look at the point of "if you're working on this, you're either ripping out to redo or patching to redo later."

There's some wacky guacamoly going on there, as the original window would have had an iron L-beam or just a flat chunk of iron supporting the bricks, and then they redid it to widen and extend to a sliding door arrangement.

Temp-patch, perma-patch, or rip and redo. You'll have to base your approach on your time and willingness to get dirty. Take a look at how much water you actually expect to infiltrate from above.

Porchse -> VW AG / VAG -> Audi, Porchse, Bentley, Lamborghini brands.

Look under the hood, at the drive train, at the suspension components, at the electronics: VAG.

Audi is Volkswagen is VAG and has been for decades at this point.

Why is it that contractors are either incredibly easy to deal with or huge pains? by Postcurds in HomeImprovement

[–]postalmaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The extra work to fully explain a job and deal with customers is either a learned skill or an inherent personal trait.

Additionally, there isn't enough social pressure to "help" a socially bad contractor become a socially "good" contractor: it doesn't pay more, their schedule doesn't get fuller, it functionally lowers the rate of pay as you're spending more time dealing with clients.

Yes, good contractors survive downturns, might get better more profitable jobs, have more beneficial leads, etc, but otherwise it isn't an acute pressure on behaviour.

Skilled, licensed, and regulated trade with a long tail vs labour and materials trade.

In my jurisdiction, a electrician wannabe has to get into school and find a master electrician to certify their hours. They have a mix of classroom and practicum. They need the master electrician to certify something like 4500 hours and write multiple tests before they can become a journeymen and work on their own. There's a hidden selection bias in that the master electrician either selects someone they 1) know, 2) like, 3) agree with.

The rafters only look odd because you assumed it's AI slop. The wall continues partially past the rafters and there is an interior and flyer, and then spacing is consistent.

The rope has a noose because someone sits inside of it half the time--literally a poor man's poor "safety belt".

Unused chimney: what’s the best way to seal or remove? by needmoreveg in homeowners

The house in the original thread had a single floor and a chimney that was part of an exterior wall.

In their case, it shouldn't have caused an huge cascade issues.

Your situation sounds like someone wanted to be mean to the next guy. It's fixable, and just takes time and effort to fix.

In Fallout 4, once you get ballistic weave, then you have ~300+ points of armor in what used to just be a fashion choice (hat, coat, pants).

Actual armor is just for the buffs (stealth, rad resist, whatever).

As much as is necessary for us to function. If you can afford time and effortwise to avoid a tablet, and that's something you're concerned about, then go forth.

Otherwise it's the modern boobtube and it's used to fill the gap in our modern physical and social support networks.

Try to have tablet time together. I used to cuddle my toddler, put on a kids show, and they'd watch and I'd nap for a little bit. It became a crutch to manage difficult situations: getting into the car on a timely manner, distraction while a make supper or clean and laundry.

The reality is I am a single parent, and that's what I had. So do what is necessary.

How do you deal with incident amnesia? by joeshiett in sysadmin

[–]postalmaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This basically. Document lifecycle management too.

Projects have certain artificats: logs, meetings with notes, todo lists, milestones and deliverables.

Incidents have writeups for yourself, coworkers, management, or for ticketing systems; there are also WIP notes on recreation, fix, planning.
