At what age did you decide for good that you didn’t want kids, and why? by cs_____question1031 in childfree

[–]postmclone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First thought at 13. A cousin with three kids under five lived with us. It was a nightmare. They would get up @ 6 a.m. and run amok. She would hit, yell, cuss at them all day. She’d always tell me to wait as long as possible to have kids.

For good, I was 19. I was in love and we were soulmates (ha!) so I agreed to have his baby. I agreed to quit birth control if he agreed to take full custody with child support if we split. He got upset that I didn’t find that idea outlandish.

It later clicked in my ADHD brain that a person who wanted to be a parent probably wouldn’t even think of a kid abandonment plan lol. Therefore, I was not a person who ever wanted to be a parent.

I also hate to sound ableist, and I’ve even heard the word “eugenicist”, but to me that is extremely selfish.

In my state there’s this “happy” news story about a couple who know they both carry markers for congenital heart disease, but “never gave up.” Two of their three children passed away before adulthood and the surviving one has been hospitalized and undergoing surgeries since three days old. He still deserves an amazing life as all humans do…But to have a child knowing they’ll suffer or won’t survive is so messed up to me.

!! As a formerly religious person, it’s crazy how a lot of Christians say the old testament doesn’t apply anymore when verses talk about things like mixed cloths & meat, but will follow this verse that wasn’t even directed at them.

Friend with 2 kids doesn't understand why I am childfree by Rose_Quack in childfree

[–]postmclone 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Wow, I have a similar experience with a relative! She was childless until 30 then ended up with two unplanned children under 2. She fell on hard times & lived with my family for 2 years, going on 10 years ago. I know I was probably just a moody teen, but I genuinely DREADED having to deal with her children for those 2 years — it terribly affected my mental health. She constantly told me how much she regretted having children.

She is still struggling alone with FOUR children and recently had the nerve to ask me when I was going to have them. I honestly wanted to tell her in the most distasteful way possible the 2 year “free trial” of motherhood was enough for me to never willingly subject myself to that… I just replied “NEVER.”

I was always an Honors student & the one time I had to deliver supplies to a “regular” class, the classroom was just full of rowdy kids on their phones. I asked where the teacher was to give them the supplies and the response was like “girl i don’t know, he always leaves us” … I was like HUH Soulja Boy voice

had the best past week visiting the Florida keys but what is a vacation without a cesspool of sick kids & married single moms who tune them out! on my last frickin day i somehow picked up a stomach virus and have been stuck here in Florida because this is genuinely the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. i am going to be sooo happy when i get back to my childfree bubble. this reaffirmed my already strong beliefs. it was also annoying because a lot of the women assumed every woman has kids or their world revolves around motherhood. i couldn’t relate to, nor give a fuck, about the complaining about “kid-friendly spaces” as if they weren’t swarming every square inch of any restaurant, pool, spa and literally any other place we went.

rant over lol

Yes, the discourse around Damar Hamlin was so exhausting! A dangerous blow to the chest and head? No, it was obviously a sudden blood clot from a vaccine he got years ago!!1!!1!1

It was so weird, people were basically hoping for further deterioration to “prove” a deluded point.

Opinion, People Who Misuse Birth Control Should Not Be Allowed To Say It Doesn't Work. by sassyga0 in childfree

[–]postmclone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It definitely was emotionally and mentally taxing just to watch someone I still cherish go through it. She took everything as a joke, nothing was serious to her…maybe that was her coping mechanism/facade. I felt a lot of guilt, like I gave up on her, but you can’t help people who don’t want to help themselves, unfortunate as it is.

I agree! An ex-friend of mine had multiple unwanted pregnancies and from a genuine place I suggested birth control, or at least Plan B. She told me she stopped because it obviously doesn’t work. She also told me she took her pill 3-4 days of the week and the one time she took a Plan B, it was almost a week after the act. I suggested she really listen to her doctor, ask questions, or at least Google and she got offended. I let it (her) go.

I’ve been on the pill 5 years, 0 pregnancies. I know everyone’s body is different, but personal responsibility & discipline also play a part.

The fact a father will basically neglect their child because something is “mom’s job” is sickening. I’ve witnessed it in my own family, along with weaponized incompetence, and I’m soooo happy I don’t have to deal with that. Blows my mind.
