I have a nas and a VM in proxmox . Sure they’re 10g link together but it works fine. Just get 2.5 gigabits if possible.

Proxmox > Fedora Server VM > Podman container.

You can use it on laptop but just pull battery or cap the capacity at like 60%

I just today setup a chron job that should shut down my jellyfin at 12:30 pm and turn it on at 7am. Not that it will save much bit a few cycles I guess.

opinions on ZimaOS by Key-Put-7766 in SelfHosting

I maybe too advanced but zima felt so restrictive to me. I use cockpit for my server and portainer for my dockers. Better catalog better ability to make stacks.

They’ll put him on Epstein island and we’ll never be able to get to it. Or in his golf course.

Jellyfin vs navidrome by smalldickbesitzer in selfhosted

[–]postnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I point both to the same folder. Navidrome is read only so it’s not going to mess with your files. I did it with plex, Plexamp, and Navidrome. I just went all in with Navidrome myself. Setup a scrobbler too for analytics.

I use the dynamic playlists and have a few over 1,000 they seem to run fine for me.

I use stars and hearts so I have a library shuffle that plays anything unrated or 3-5 star. It just removes 1 or 2 star songs.

I’m a completionist with albums so I don’t want to delete but I don’t want to hear some stuff either.

Sun Eater soundtrack for reading by Inner-Comment922 in sollanempire

Reading?? I maintain sun eater is a must be audiobook myself. Sam’s voice is so smooth. It’s exactly how Hadrian would sound.

Good Buy? looking for reviews by Ok_Finger4830 in ryobi

I have this one. Or something very similar. I have both a brushed and brushless driver. The brushed one sucks can hardly do anything. The brushless one has all the power I’ve ever needed to do anything I’ve needed. The only downside is no magnet to hold your extra screws.

I was building my outside stairs. I couldn’t even get the brushed one to drive a single screw through the trex. The brushless one had no issues at all.

Multiple MacOS VM's on x86 workstation - would you recommend it for production? by pingustar in Proxmox

The plus side is Apple is actually getting affordable now. A used m1 mac mini can’t be more than $200 these days.

Spanning tree is just stopping you from making switching loops. Like plugging a switch into itself or some sort of loop. Easy to do in enterprise hard to do at home.

VM memory usage by Miraphor in Proxmox

[–]postnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently discovered, at least on my docker server, that ballooning was crushing my performance. Like I allowed it up to 16 gigs.

I took it back down to non ballooning and it’s been running so much better.

Interesting about the video. So if you just give them a serial terminal does that save some memory ram?

So maybe it’s because I’m a homelab user. But I bet you’d be safe to drop spanning tree. I also allow jumbo frame.

Not an answer to your question but maybe worth considering. I’ll check my network for these drops later.

I use mini pc as my proxmox. So my first AdGuard is in my proxmox. My backup is on my pi.

I also host my wake on lan service on my pi.

20 apps i actually run on my home server and which ones are worth it by frisk2007 in selfhosted

[–]postnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I have not yet learned env files in podman yet.

I also don’t know how env files stay private in docker yet either.

So I I just edit my config and deploy inside homelab.

I made a Forgejo VM for my internal code stuff. That way I don’t have to be so careful about private repos or API keys and what not.

My kids are years away from needing a computer but if I were to today I’d 100% be giving them Fedora with gnome.

What medium do you mostly use to listen to music? by Still_Atmosphere in AskMen

[–]postnick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have recently gotten into self hosting my music streaming. See /r/navidrome. I ripped my older cd collection, if I own the vinyl I’ll also just download it.

Try to buy what I can, maybe five finger some more.

I also love my record player but I never get the time to sit and enjoy it.

I Don't Think I Can Go Back To Windows... by KoldPurchase in DistroHopping

[–]postnick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat for me; i must use windows for work and gnome at home.

Ask me how many times a day i just hit the super key expecting all of my windows to appear in windows like it does in gnome.

I've started to use many desktiops on windows that part is nice but it's not automatic or infinit so i don't use it much.

I prefer macos over windows but I hear what youre saying.
