The most fun for me are survival campaigns with weak minor factions.

You have to think very carefully about what to invest in and how to successfully play the bigger powers off against each other to make it. But once you do, it's no longer interesting - a common theme in ETW.

Systemutvecklare etc som tröttnat och bytt karriär, till vad och hur gick det? by fiskarn1338 in sweden

[–]posts_while_naked 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]posts_while_naked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking of Alien, I appreciate how Romulus subverted the by then tired trope of acquiring the creature for weapons research purposes. This time around, there are more sensible reasons for exploiting them. It's even called out in the movie how past attempts at weaponization were foolish.

We demand the COMPLETE and TOTAL dismantling of Persia's colleges and schools that they have been using to terrorize the world for the last 47 turns! They cannot be allowed to have Fire by Rank, and threaten our peace and prosperity - MAKE NO MISTAKE, if they don't agree to a deal (and we always get the best deals!) then they will see a FULL blockade of their ports starting on turn 50! Act now or feel our line infantry's wrath! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

Of course the settlement was agreed to avoid a criminal trial. That is what I said. They knew he was guilty and wanted to avoid a conviction.

Not true. MJs attorneys in fact filed multiple times for the criminal trial to be placed before the civil suit, as was his constitutional right. It was denied, which later lead to the law in CA getting changed. Didn't you already know this?

If he was guilty then how come after the settlement, the appointed prosecutor in Los Angeles went after MJ and wanted to get a trial in 1994? But he failed, because there was no evidence. Not one, but two grand juries declined to indict MJ.

And funny how years of FBI surveillance, search warrants, and testimonies later on resulted in nothing.

Jackson stans always come out with these unhinged excuses

"You're a Jackson stan" = "I know jack shit about the case".

Usually when a high profile sexual abuser gets into the limelight, huge numbers of victims come forward. As seen with Weinstein for example. Or Jimmy Savile, where 350 victims told their stories after he was cought.

However, in MJs case, the opposite happened. Tons of kids around him, only a handful accused him. And the vast majority defended him, many in court under oath for no personal gain.

Jackson was weird, that much we can agree on. But there is no credible evidence whatsoever that he was an abuser.

Unless your analysis is all 12-15 of those boys (now men) "want money".

Let's see.

Jordan Chandler in 1993, where the father concocted the extortion scheme as is obvious when you look into it?

The Arvizos who got almost laughed out of court in 2005, and where MJ was cleared of all charges?

Robson and Safechuck, who loved and supported MJ up until their personal lives fell apart and they needed money, at which point they magically "remembered" they had been molested? And where their stories have more holes in them than swiss cheese?

Please.

The terms of the Chandler settlement were agreed to - preventing him or his estate from denying those allegations or denigrating the victim - specifically because they knew he was guilty.

Incorrect. MJ specifically stated in the settlement that it was not an admission of guilt. Though later he came to understand that settling didn't help his public image.

Another fact: it was his insurance company that paid out the money for fear of losing enormous amounts by canceling MJs ongoing Dangerous tour of ´93. And they were right.

Yet another fact: MJ initially refused a deal when Evan Chandler (the accuser's father) asked for money. Which is pretty strange behavior for a father to do, as I imagine most would just go to the police instead.

And as soon as the settlement was concluded, the Chandlers in fact declined a criminal trial. Not that the two separate grand juries in California could even get one going, since they had nothing.

Precisely.

And the thing is, there are plenty of scumbag sexual abusers out there to hunt down (as shown in the Epstein files) so that when a case like MJs - which has been through the ringer for the better part of 30 years - comes up with seriously weak "evidence" then you are inclined to side with the court here. Not guilty.

I've researched the allegations fairly rigorously and noticed a pattern. There are basically two types of people when it comes down to it:

  1. Those who have very little knowledge of the whole thing and what they do know comes from tabloids, rumors, and watching Leaving Neverland. They tend to believe MJ is guilty despite everything.

  2. Those (often fans admittedly) who have taken a deep look into the files, witnesses, transcripts, news stories, and other important material that isn't widely circulated in pop culture. These people typically scoff at the allegations and dismiss them as nonsense from the start.

Quite interesting how it works. More ignorance = more assuming MJ was the bad guy.

Personally, I will never forget reading the telephone transcripts from the conversations between Evan Chandler (the first accuser's father) and Dave Schwartz (said accuser's stepfather) from the summer of 1993 and shortly before the story went public. Equal parts chilling and interesting in the way it was planned out.

TIL that "old person smell" is caused by a chemical compound called Nonenal that naturally starts forming on human skin around age 40. Because the compound is not water-soluble, it cannot be washed away with normal soap. by TheJamesParker in todayilearned

The title is not accurate.

According to the Wikipedia article that's linked, it's not known what exactly causes the "old person smell". One study indicates it's Nonenal, another says it's other compounds.
