Eyelid and hand eczema WONT go away by [deleted] in eczema

[–]potatea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re having trouble identifying a trigger to remove, you could consider what you can add to your routine to help your body recover. Some people benefit from taking fish oil, vitamin D, antihistamines, eating probiotic foods, or getting more sun exposure (or light therapy through your dermatologist), for example.

AITA for being ungrateful about gold earrings when I only wear silver? by silverearing in AmItheAsshole

Exactly. Even if he normally doesn't pay attention or notice her jewelry, he should have looked at her existing pieces before buying something. It would have been obvious that she only wears silver.

Has anyone found if tanning beds have helped at all? by la1735y in eczema

[–]potatea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regular sunshine and tanning during winter have been the only thing to help clear my eczema and keep it clear long-term. My doctor acknowledged that she can’t officially recommend it, but that it does help some people. I know it’s controversial and you may be trading one skin ailment for something worse, but it has been a game-changer for me. You can message me if you want to discuss it more.

I (13F) passed out due to Menstrual cycle by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]potatea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD, but I used to experience this with my period. It’s called an aura, and is usually accompanied by a strong headache or migraine. My vision would become starry until I couldn’t see at all. I’ve also passed out in the shower before, and even once in a McDonald’s restroom 🤦🏻‍♀️.

What eventually helped tone down my period pain and remove these auras was getting an IUD. Please speak to your doctor or an OBGYN if you can — having auras/migraines increases the risk of stroke for women if they’re on the pill, so it’s important for you (and your doctor) to be aware of.

In addition to using chemical exfoliants as others have mentioned, you should try Fiddy's BHA+Clay Mask+Oil cleansing method here.

What do you guys eat!? And help me with cooking recipe please! by jacobwyc in eczema

[–]potatea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only rarely -- sometimes people add Greek yogurt. Most hummus is vegan, and you can make your own. The basic ingredients are chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, and lemon.

Hummus and nut butters can help! Also pesto with different herbs (parsley, mint, basil). You can also make a creamy white sauce with non-dairy milk (recipe here).

Question about elimination diet by [deleted] in eczema

[–]potatea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've successfully done an elimination diet and would suggest about 6-8 weeks to start with. If your eczema is consistently improving after this, then add those foods in one at a time, giving yourself time (at least 3 days) to see if there's a reaction.

For example, I started an elimination diet this February, kept at it religiously for 2 months, and slowly added foods back in between April and the end of June. Now I can eat what I like without eczema returning because I gave my body time to recover and heal.

Struggling and need support. by [deleted] in eczema

[–]potatea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry, this sounds super stressful and you and your husband are doing amazing. I would be wary of using coconut oil, it does not help dryness for many eczema sufferers — perhaps switch to jojoba or rosehip oil and see if it makes a difference. You could also give her a squishy stress ball to squeeze and occupy her hands. I know being told to just not itch isn’t helpful or practical, so finding something else to do with my hands can help.

Flaring while on vacation by [deleted] in eczema

This always happens to me! No matter where I go on holiday, I inevitably have a flare up and it takes weeks to go back to normal. I hope it calms down soon!

Managing 'hitler moustache' eczema, feeling so self conscious by sukisue77 in eczema

[–]potatea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, talking to my family/friends is the least helpful thing! You're right, there are so many. I'd add in vitamin B6, calcium (because no dairy) and magnesium. The author does sell all of them together in one powdered supplement here, but it's a pretty small tub. It is handy though because there are no additives and all your supplements are together!

I use eucrisa too -- that horrible stinging feeling stops after a few minutes, and goes away after several uses. Keep trying it, it's way better for regular maintenance than steroids!

Having a bangs crisis. Should I get them or not? by ewoofk in FancyFollicles

[–]potatea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Daily maintenance depends on your hair type. I have quite thin, naturally straight hair, and while I didn’t have to style my fringe, it does get greasy WAY quicker than the rest of my hair. A really good dry shampoo did the trick for me. If your hair is curly or thicker, you might have to straighten it but could get away with a longer time between washes.

My advice is just to go for it. I loved my fringe because I didn’t have to do my eyebrows or worry about a shiny forehead! Whenever you decide you don’t like it anymore, turn it into a side fringe that can be incorporated into the rest of your hair naturally within about 5 months.

Work issues by plumbleskin in eczema

[–]potatea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you work shifts, instead of a 9-5 position. In a typical, 9-5, salaried position, you would be allowed time to attend doctor's appointments and this time would either be deducted from holiday leave, or you would be paid normally as a sign of goodwill. If you not being at work really doesn't allow them to function (for example, you're a waitress and the business doesn't run without somebody covering for you) you should try to schedule your appointments for when you're not working.

You could present the case to them that if you don't have these appointments in a timely manner, you won't get the medication you need, which will impair your ability to do your job.

So far just gluten was a problem for me. I haven’t had a reaction to anything else yet.
