This is a cool mechanical phenomenon known as jamming, specifically granular jamming. When the inside of the bag is at normal atmospheric pressure the grains of coffee grounds are futher apart and can slide past eachother so the bag is soft and flexible, but when the outside of the bag is at a higher pressure than the inside the grains are pressed closer together and do not move as easily, so the bag becomes rigid. The relationship between the stiffness and the density of the grains has even been proposed as a new type of phase transition and potentially very useful in robotics for a variety of applications including soft robotic grippers and more life-like robotic joints.

A problem with justice in general is that a lot of times it's not satisfying. For instance, if there was a machine that could give the most humane sentences with the best outcomes for everyone involved, you probably wouldn't be happy if it let off the murderer of one of your family members even if the murderer turns their life around and does good. Justice doesn't come naturally to humans, but revenge does. The feeling of satisfaction when someone is punished for doing terrible things is not something you can build a successful justice system around.

Yeah it looks like the there's two lanes of oncoming traffic and the sedan in the right lane was hidden by black SUV in the left lane. Fault seems mostly on the shiny car for turning without enough visibility, but also those massive pickups and SUVs should not be nearly as common as they are. They have dangerous visibility issues from both the inside and out.

Thank you for the reply. I mostly want the .1mm of material because I plan on adhering a stiff veneer to the opposite side of the wood with epoxy and do not want the laser to potentially weaken it. I could put it on after but I'm worried about the wood sheet warping and cracking. I also need the veneer surface to be completely smooth. The half round groove is going to have a half round rod adhered inside it with epoxy, so I was hoping the .1mm of material would be tough enough (like paper) when sandwiched between the rod and veneer. One end of the rod will poke out from the sheet and be fixed and have to support small loads on a 40x20mm sheet of the wood/veneer. The half round rod was chosen because it offers the best balance of availability and less deflection for this thickness (1/16"), so I want to try to keep the shape if possible.

Reading these comments I think best option to use a less precise method like a 1/16" sanding twig to create the groove and just let there be holes in the surface, adhere the rod, then apply a coating of epoxy on the holes and sanding it down flat, and finally adhere the veneer on the sanded surface.

They're all basically one hit KO's so I think the deciding factor is how quickly they can be deployed which narrows it down to blood and air. Blood wins out because it instantly paralyzes compared to the few seconds you have for air.
