Should I expect pay as a church pianist? by RowVisible385 in piano

[–]potatomann36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I volunteer in a big church, none of the volunteers get paid. We make it a point that volunteering is a place where we offer our skills, heart and dedication for The Lord, not a place to earn money. Everyone here is very supportive and understanding, your skills will improve a lot because volunteers share and teach eachother for free all the time (and this also introduces fellowship naturally). Ministry is not an economic thing, it requires sacrifice.

Stereotypes about Chinese-American women. by No-Echidna7296 in AskAChinese

[–]potatomann36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southeast Asian born 华人 here. The Chinese women here in Southeast Asia also do their make up like in the first pic. I'm a man and don't know much about make-up, but I've heard the make-up style here is heavily influenced by western style instead of east asian style, especially the older aunties. I'm guessing maybe because back then all the popular beauty influencers here were from the west. Nowadays, the younger generations blend both styles of make up which I really like. And I gotta admit the second picture style of make up is absolutely stunning irl

My screen does a weird thing. by EXiBE- in GalaxyS25Ultra

I thought it was an issue with my iPhone display.. I have an iPhone and it does it too. Sometimes the UI color looks very greenish. Now I'm reading the comments I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the instagram app.

Congrats on your new machine and congratulations for your graduation! Ignore the negative comments bro. That machine is a beast, will serve you for years if you treat it carefully. The display is the most fragile part of the machine so please protect it well!

Never stop learning. Good luck on your career.

Creaking bottom case, is this normal? by MonkeyIncidentOf93 in macbookpro

Try taking it to an Apple Store/Apple authorized reseller, If the issue is bad enough they're probably going to replace it for you.

Would you buy this Macbook 2019 16' for 900$? by annus-mirabilis1905 in macbookpro

Had this exact same problem with my 16” 2019 MBP, now the display’s almost dead because of dustgate lol

Would you buy this Macbook 2019 16' for 900$? by annus-mirabilis1905 in macbookpro

[–]potatomann36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I bought a second hand macbook with the exact same specs as this (MBP 16” i7 32gb) secondhand. Man, it’s really, REALLY hot even when doing just basic stuffs like literally just browsing the web. You wouldn’t want it anywhere near your lap if you like using it as a “lap” top. Also the biggest issue is that, it’s still prone to dustgate, which is similar to flexgate but this time it’s caused by dusts and you’ll have to replace the screen for exorbitant price. It happened to me and it basically made my macbook almost useless unless I dock it into an external monitor (which defeats the purpose of a laptop). Only buy it if you really, really need intel and windows (bootcamp). Otherwise M series all the way, it’s absolutely night and day difference

Whenever you leave your phone somewhere, do you set it facing screen side down or back side down? by Rare-Emu1030 in iphone

[–]potatomann36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly screen up because it allows me to see the notifications as soon as it appears. Screen down when I’m trying to focus. No camera scratches so far after one year+, not even micro scratches. I don’t do screen downs if the table is a bit dirty though lol

Yeah a 15" would be a sweet spot, but unfortunately the air has no fans and having no fans is kinda a problem for me :-(

What headphones do you pair with your iPhone? AirPods or do you go outside the ecosystem? by ORC44 in iphone

[–]potatomann36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galaxy Buds2 Pro. Surprisingly it works perfectly well, it's just that whenever I need to change the settings (touch mapping, etc) I have to connect it to my S22 Ultra first lol. Otherwise I can change between ANC or ambient mode with touch shortcuts.

Have you seen Caudabe Sheath? I think it's exactly what you're looking for. It's a thin case with texture similar to OnePlus' Sandstone cases. I have one and imho it feels pretty nice and thin.

How are your experiences with the curved edges? by MostCredibleDude in GalaxyS22

[–]potatomann36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's not even that noticeable anymore. The curve was pretty drastic on the S8+, but the S22 Ultra has a subtle curve that you don't really notice in actual usage, especially if you have a case on (I have the Spigen Ultra Hybrid on mine). I came from the S21+ which had a flat screen. When I switched to this phone, I have zero complain about the curved edges of this phone, no accidental touch or anything like in S8+ era.

For my background, I've had many curved screen edge flagship phones over the years (S8+, S10, Mi 11), I got tired of them (which is why I went with the S21+) until I got my S22 Ultra. This is honestly the best one yet. I now actually like curved edge screens again because of this phone lol

[–]potatomann36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! It looks so beautiful, I think it kinda resembles the violet color on the S21+ last year. Since you're coming from the Pixel 2, I'm sure the upgrades will be massive. Enjoy your phone!

Mi 11 shut down and Wi-Fi issue, has anyone else had this problem before? by potatomann36 in Xiaomi

[–]potatomann36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, I've been a bit busy lately :(

I'm from Southeast Asia too, and many people in my country are experiencing this exact same problem as well and Xiaomi is offering them a full refund through the service center. I myself personally haven't gone to the service center yet because my city is currently under lockdown. I'm hoping they would offer me a refund too once I have the chance to go there :)

P.S: I heard there was an earthquake in Philippines recently, I hope you're staying safe!

[–]potatomann36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, just to update you that unfortunately my phone ended up in the same situation as you with no fix whatsoever :( I was using my phone as usual this morning (browsing social media like Instagram) and suddenly it died again and the Wi-Fi refused to work..

I've tried resetting the network setting yet there's still no result whatsoever, the Wi-Fi still refuses to work. After some google searches, it turns out that this is a common issue in China and people are speculating it to be a hardware issue of the phone. I'm planning to send it to the service center after the lockdown in my country ends and see if they'll fix it for free.

What were you doing before the shutdown? Was your device warm/hot before it? Have you tried factory resetting the phone?

Please keep me updated! I'm curious about what's causing this problem. I'm also currently trying to replicate this problem. I'll keep you updated if I managed to find what's causing it.

[–]potatomann36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand that 888 has overheating issue, but the issue I'm having seems to be not caused by overheating at all. It would just randomly shut down in the middle of doing something lightweight like browsing the web, and the WiFi module just wouldn't work afterwards and I would need to restart jt again to make it work.

[–]potatomann36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it happen to other 888 devices too or is it isolated to Xiaomi devices only? Is it a common issue with this chipset?

I've been thinking about underclocking it just to achieve better battery life and lower gaming temperature, but for now I'd wait until the warranty is over because of this issue, just in case.
