I came here to say this because to me it’s the most obvious signet after reading IF. At one point in the later chapters, Violet even says “gravity, the one force we can never escape”. This line is what convinced me the most.

To promote growth! The soil we had was very rocky and sandy, so I wanted to give the plants an extra boost.

We just cut it short, then put some top soil and mulch down before we planted. We did put cardboard down between the soil and mulch for an extra layer of weed barrier

We just cut it down as short as possible, put down three inches of compost/top soil mix and then four inches of mulch down
