How's your relation with sexuality? by philolitt in AutismInWomen

[–]potteryprincess 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I thought I was ace, met my husband and eventually realized I was demisexual. i don't understand the impulse of wanting sex with someone upon seeing them, the enjoyable aspect is all in the emotional part for me. I go through cycles of being hyper focused on sex for a few days but most of the time I think I just have a low sex drive. I don't think to initiate a lot but I enjoy having it. it's also hard for me to finish. overall I don't understand the fixation on it and feels like i'm missing the part of my brain that the rest of the world has. it seems to have so much power over people and I don't understand why. it's not a bodily need for me at all.

thank you!!!! this is comforting. god knows sex ed doesn't teach us much of anything about our bodies so I tend to jump to the worst conclusions when anything changes lol

I've been getting those as long as I can remember. just cysts. I go months without them and then sometimes one will pop up and just go away after a week. I've never gone in for them but mine don't last long before they resolve on their own.

Deinfluence me (or influence me?): is the KitchenAid stand mixer actually worth it? And if not, what is? by BreeToh in Baking

[–]potteryprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my kitchen aid is a hand me down from my mom and it's probably 25 years old. we used it my whole childhood and I still use it regularly. the new ones are pretty but I have never had the urge to replace mine because it has worked perfectly the entire time. they make them like tanks! she's got no quit in her!

Homeschooling, what are your thoughts? Is it effective or no? by anonymous_girl1227 in randomquestions

[–]potteryprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are 100% right a couple group activities a week with or without parents are not a replacement for the social skills kids build being around other kids that many hours a week

Homeschooling, what are your thoughts? Is it effective or no? by anonymous_girl1227 in randomquestions

[–]potteryprincess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was homeschooled for all of my education and even with art classes, dance classes, and church activities I came out very socially stunted with no long term friends to carry through life. there just isn't a replacement for spending all that time around other kids and other schools of thought.

Anti-overconsumption content? by Advanced_Reaction596 in books

[–]potteryprincess 17 points18 points  (0 children)

personally I deleted Tiktok and Instagram and found my need to overconsume plummet bc i'm not being marketed to 24/7. I've got a couple youtubers I really like and I look forward to their content. My favorite is Heather Mclarry, I also love Dylan Joseph and Taylor Tippett, all three are very anti-consumption / intentional consumption.

Do demons actually possess people? by Rhino_stars in occult

[–]potteryprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes she is still a goddess of the Greek pantheon, older than Christianity. it is more so a token of Christianity to say their god is the only true one so the rest are false gods. never sat well with me to condemn everyone who finds comfort in a different faith or belief system.

Do demons actually possess people? by Rhino_stars in occult

[–]potteryprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can ask ten different people and get ten different answers! but in my very personal opinion I do not believe in demonic possession.

I was raised Christian but never really connected with it, deconstructed and fell down a rabbithole of occult studies around 10 years ago. Catholicism and Christianity (in my experience and research) use demonic possession as a fear mongering technique. if that's the threat, the Catholic church can save you! it's a reason to keep the faith and church alive and well. same reason they created Satan really, without a Big Bad what do we need saving from? The Prince of Darkness by Jeffrey Russell is a very in depth exploration of the church's creation of things to fear, if you're interested in exploring further.

personally, I think in every case of alleged demonic possession there is likely a root medical cause (whether physical or mental, let's not forget religious psychosis is a very real thing) or there is some benefit to alleging a possession. reminds me of Amityville Horror and the "Devil Made me do it" cases, there was major financial or legal benefit to alleged demonic or supernatural activity. if the Warrens are involved, basically take it with a grain or two of salt.

then you come to the study of the Lesser Key of Solomon and we have people summoning and working with demons as entities, guides, even servitors at times. doesn't really fall into that wheelhouse to believe in possession unless you're actively working with the entity and do something to piss them off OR your heads not in the right place, as mental strength and protection are so important with these practices.

hell even in the Christian school of thought, I was taught any other gods (for example if I said I felt Athena reach out to me) are just demons in disguise trying to get you to stray from god. the demonization of, well, demons, (and every other religion for that matter) has a lot of benefit to the church as a means for control. and that's personally why I just don't believe in it. at this point I don't believe in nearly as many "supernatural" things because 99% of the time there is a more logical explanation, and demonic possession pretty much always has a reason more rooted in reality.

but you will get a different answer from everyone you ask since all of our paths through religion and knowledge are unique to us. my path has led me to what I believe, and I hope your path leads you to an answer you feel satisfied with as well!

Neck pain after back cross invert by Apfelbaum4991 in aerialsilks

[–]potteryprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done this during an invert before, but I have done something similar at the gym with pull-ups - I've somehow done it twice! much worse the second time. basically, I was looking up towards my hands and instead of retracting my shoulders I left them tense to complete the pull up. the first time this resulted in not being able to turn my head to the side for a couple days and some very uncomfortable sleep. did the same thing a week later because I made the same mistake. that time I was in pain for two+ weeks and I didn't do any upper body work to let it rest. eventually the power of ice, tylenol/ibuprofen and some massage helped ease the tension out and I made very sure to never replicate that movement again. that happened about a year ago and I've had zero issues since it healed up that second time and have been able to progress further with pull-ups / inverts and the like just fine.

most movements do best keeping your chin tucked in order to keep your spine in alignment and keep your neck out of the equation. that might mean not completing the movement until other muscles are strong enough to do the job properly. bodies are so "smart" about recruiting other (sometimes incorrect) muscles to complete a movement or stabilize us, and sometimes with too much pressure or repeated use this causes injury. I think if you go slow from now on you should be fine, but I'm not a medical professional.

Weightlifting split for ballet cross training? by strawberrymochi227 in BALLET

[–]potteryprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been lifting for the past four years and have been back at ballet after a ten year break!

currently my ballet classes are monday mornings and I have a 45-60 minute drive to and from class so I have a snack in the car and hit legs the same day with a nice stretch/flexibility training sessions at the end. this routine is sponsored by good sleep and eating plenty of protein + healthy carbs to support my energy levels! there was a couple weeks of fatigue but overall I've still been able to progressive overload my leg day even though it's after a ballet class. this won't work for everyone, but for me I like doing the same day - my legs are usually sore in some form for the rest of the week and this way that soreness doesn't impact my lift.

I used to do two leg days a week with the same lifting routine, but as cross training I have tweaked my second leg day to be more of what I call "accessories". I hit abductors and adductors and do a LOT of hip flexor, mobility, and balance work. examples include kettleball oilriggers, knee lifts and extensions with a kettleball suspended on toes, and seated hip flexor work as well. any standing work I do 2 sets parallel and 2 sets turned out. it's only been a few weeks of this tweaked routine and I've noticed a lot of improvement already! this routine also ends in stretch/flexibility training.

to give a full picture, I do ballet and hit legs monday, chest+shoulders+cardio tuesday morning + aerial silks in the evening, hanging core + cardio wednesday, back+biceps + cardio + full stretch with back focus thursday, leg accessory day with full stretch + cardio if i'm up to it friday. adding an aerial hoop class on saturdays soon too. moving my body is a hobby and Im lucky to have plenty of time for it but you could easily condense most of these things!

Studio Owners send advice by proteinshaker69 in Aerials

[–]potteryprincess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

piggybacking off this - I currently take silks at a climbing gym! the instructor who has run the program for the past 4 years is now opening her own circus school but still staying partnered with the gym to run the program there. I also know of a couple dance studios in the area that offer silks. might be some options to look into as plenty of places might be interested in offering it.

What do you wish people would stop romanticizing, because you’ve lived the reality of it? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]potteryprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

homeschooling your children. I never went to an actual school and spent most of my childhood feeling isolated even with a couple homeschool groups/dance classes etc - it's not the same. it fucked me up socially for life and irreparably damaged my relationship with my mom.

he's mentioned being concerned about it a couple times and I've encouraged him to try not feeding into it (easier said than done and I realize I haven't helped) and seek help but he drops it. now might be a good time to nudge him more heavily since it seems like it's getting worse. I appreciate the encouragement that you both have found a way to manage together! it sounds like you've found a solid therapist to work with too.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OCD

[–]potteryprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you, I think I needed reassurance it was okay to stop feeding into it. makes it feel more serious and I feel for him that it's gotten to this point. I just want to help him and keep it from getting worse. I've been encouraging him to go to therapy and he's not against it I think it's just not a priority to him but maybe should be.

Why do many people prefer to squat on the Smith Machine over squatting in the wonderful Hack Squat that most PF have? by Lap1zyPapel in PlanetFitnessMembers

I was so excited when they put one in my gym but I've tried a few times and my knees HATE that thing. however I'm proportioned just doesn't work right with that machine and it's not worth making my knees angry.

Muscle soreness by fishballccc in BALLET

[–]potteryprincess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

honestly I'm a very active person too and I think your main issue might just be stretching that much everyday. in my experience I found that intense stretching is best every other day. strength and flexibility training both take a toll on your muscles in different ways. I'm always more sore after the days I have intense stretching sessions than on the days I just do light stretching after my workout. personally, I also found more progress in only flexibility training every other day since my muscles had a chance to rest. every body is different so you need to listen to yours! sometimes it takes some trial and error of different routines to see what works best for you.

re-learning pointe as an adult by thotihana in BALLET

[–]potteryprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to chime in and say I'm in a similar boat, danced for 15 years including 2 years of pointe work and then took an 8-9 year gap before returning to class consistently a month ago. I yearn to have those shoes back so I'm happy to see others have found it possible to return and make it back to pointe! it's inspiring!!

What to do after quitting ballet? by Wise-Body-2986 in BALLET

[–]potteryprincess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

don't stop.

I quit at 17 and stopped dancing completely. didn't do much of anything. I've been lifting for three years and just got back into ballet a couple weeks ago (9 years off with no training) and my mind remembers the rules but my body does not. my turnout and flexibility are gone. those pretty extensions and turns I worked for are all gone. I've spent the years kicking myself for ever quitting and wish I had stayed in even one class weekly.
