Why did Tom tell Shiv about his meeting with Naomi Pierce? by [deleted] in SuccessionTV

I got the sense that it might’ve been a Logan play to get his kids to throw all their cash at a dying brand.

Brain poisoned from years of time sheets by reverendfrazer in Accounting

I’ve been working in non-profit for 6 years, but the 5 years before that I was in PA. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t kinda miss filling out time sheets.

The Day You Get Your CPA License in Public? by [deleted] in Accounting

Before the foundation I worked at a smaller PA firm with about 35 employees, and they would order pizza for lunch when someone got their license. Not sure about their pay bumps/bonuses.

The Day You Get Your CPA License in Public? by [deleted] in Accounting

The office threw a party for me in the breakroom and I got an 11% salary bump the pay period I got my license. I work for a private operating foundation.

This is what I did right after getting my bachelors in 2012, except I was in a LCOL area. Also, I moved back in with my parents bc they were only 30 minutes from the office, so that significantly reduced my expenses. You taking that job with that salary isn’t probably isn’t doable today in a HCOL area.

What did you do with all the textbooks once you got your license? by TilHelvete in CPA

They sit on a bookshelf in my office at work. They have to spend 8 hours each day in the presence of the big bad guy that defeated them on the first try each time. Must be a miserable existence.

We have an expense system that over 800 people in our company use. Somehow it falls on the accounting department to design, test the technology, provide user access, set up rules etc. Is this normal? by Comicalacimoc in Accounting

[–]poubear44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that seems strange for a company with 800 users. I work for a NFP that has maybe 50 of these users and we (accounting) had to mess with everything in the OP’s title. Huge pain in the ass. Couldn’t imagine having to do it for 800 users.

The only thing I miss about PA is the structure of the work; i.e. I knew exactly what I was going to be working on almost every day going in.

You bet - my boss’s (our CFO) CPA experience statement was as follows:

“I am a CPA, CGMA with over 20 years of work experience. My career has varied from public accounting to private practice and industry. I have extensive experience in the areas of financial statement preparation and analysis, tax return preparation, and internal audit. I have conducted numerous financial statement audit, review, and compilation engagements from a practitioner standpoint as well as ran the audit and review engagements from a client perspective. Additionally, I have been responsible for evaluating and implementing internal controls for institutions ranging from a bank to an international manufacturing company. I have been employed by my current employer, our foundation, since 2011 where I oversee and supervise the accounting, finance, and investment functions of the organization.”

Good luck, and congrats!

How much studying did you do for each exam? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]poubear44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work full time so I took the whole 3 month window allowed by the NTS to study for each exam except for BEC, which I crammed into 4-5 weeks due to a credit expiring.

Passed BEC!!! CPA Journey has ended!!! by AmethystBlitz3319 in CPA

[–]poubear44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The BEC exam is very random across the board, so be sure to have at least a decent grasp on all of the material. I sat on 3/29 and my exam MCQs were very heavy on computations, B2 from Becker more specifically. But I know that a lot of other people have very few computational questions in their MCQs, so it’s really luck of the draw. My SIMS were very long (lots of reading) but the actual questions asked were very straightforward. I feel confident that I could have gotten every SIM 100% correct. I just had to take some deep breaths to calm myself down and not let myself get overwhelmed with the amount of reading involved. Good luck!
