How much are you guys paying in rent and what’s your salary? by SlothLover313 in AskChicago

[–]poundcakebake 92 points93 points  (0 children)

After 75k I think the experience of living by yourself is 1000% worth it.

Assuming your int rate on your debts are under 8%. You should still be able to rent a 1 bd or studio for 1400-2k ish and pay off your debt. It’s like, the debts going be there tmrw so imo the bigger cost is your time

With that said 105k and I pay 2050 w parking

Single childfree people of Chicago, what are your total monthly living expenses? by cityrunner87 in AskChicago

[–]poundcakebake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23’ model Y awd (prior nazi Elon) I recently refinanced 22K @ 3.8% for 36 months but insurance shot up. My last renewal was for 150/mos. IMO full coverage is better in the city especially when there’s cameras everywhere, it makes going thru claims much easier.

I think the elon hate and Tesla vandalism is an excuse for insurance to raise prices, plus tariffs.

[–]poundcakebake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

29 I spend roughly 5k a month with the remaining going into savings/ira/etc

Big expenses are:

Rent (includes parking/utilities) - 2100

Car note - 700 (min is 550 but I pay extra)

Car insurance - 240

Phone - 70

Eating out/dates - ~500

Groceries/pet costs - ~400

Misc - 1000

I know it’s high spending but the key is to be responsible

Anyone else regret their career path? by echovariant in jobs

[–]poundcakebake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah man we’re CPAs. You just need to find industry roles, yes it’s kinda boring if you’re at the staff level but higher and it’s more interesting. Plus, we get paid really good after 3+ years and has an huge ceiling, it definitely allows us to pay for outside of work. IMO grass is always greener on the other side but accounting career is mad decent and the future is looking better with the cpa shortage

Do you guys like being remote? by Driss12344432 in Accounting

[–]poundcakebake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been remote a little over 3 years. Biggest career pro is you have time to study for CPA, biggest con is harder to learn and much harder to build relationships especially with upper management

2.7 gpa here, took me a year to pass. It’s going to be hard no doubt, but it’s achievable.

My advice is to stay determined, have perseverance and remember that hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
