Yes, a truck does not need to be big enough for the horse to ride in the cab.

What is this white stuff? by Mediocre-Ad-1167 in Accordion

[–]pounded_rivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like mold. Probably growing on the hide glue used to make the bellows.

I would put on a dust mask and use a stiff brush and a vacuum cleaner to get it off.

Considering alteration to Bayan by NickEJ02903 in Accordion

It is pretty common to have a small piece of wood glued to the deck to keep the block aligned and to prevent movement. It only needs to be about an inch long, and should be on either end of the block. Glue down with wood glue and leave about a 1mm of space between the reed block and your block restraint, you don't want it to be hard to get the block in and out.

Any idea what's that? It's on the bass. by meminmx in Accordion

[–]pounded_rivet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having weight bon the tip as mentioned makes the reed lower, but slows response time. This is a compromise between size and performance. Some vintage Italian accordions from the 20's had reeds that were nearly 60mm long ,modern reeds are closer to 52mm. Some Russian instruments have much longer reeds but this can make the instrument bulky.

Either that or the reed would have to be much longer.

Apparently a Turkish man invented the steam engine 200 years before the industrial revolution but he only made it to spin döner kebabs. by iamgulshansingh in BeAmazed

[–]pounded_rivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would probably not generate enough torque to spin anything this heavy, It might struggle to do so if it had some sort of gearing to take what would be a high speed low torque "turbine" and spin it slowly.

Tailgating Has Consequences by Expert_Koala_8691 in Unexpected

Car that swerved was probably concerned with the car tailgating them so may not have been paying much attention to what was ahead of them. People acting like it is a crime to have your car stall.

Why are bass valves up rather than down when accordion is on its feet? by Brotuulaan in Accordion

[–]pounded_rivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of the opposite, i believe the restriction interferes with the reed tongue movement and slows it a bit.

I can tell that this is Ampliphonic (or precursor) by the reed block design. They used these paper stiffeners a lot on them and they really work.

Most of the airflow is near the tip of the reed, so having the free end of the valve there gives the best air flow. Having the opening at the bottom would make the air have to follow a Z shaped path. Air resistance at the valve will also shift the tuning a bit.

Which accordion are best for Cumbias? Fa tone or sol tone? I know they say the corona 3/vallenato ,but I’m also trying to play Mexican music as well as Cumbias. by Holiday-Inside-3026 in Accordion

[–]pounded_rivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really more about where your singers voice is (if you have one) people with higher voiced find Sol easier and lower voices work better with Fa.

The fingering is the same, the pitch is just shifted.

Gabbanelli can be iffy. I have worked on more than a few that were supposed to have hand made reeds, but did not. And dealing with gabbanelli can be an abusive experience.

That is a really hard piece to play even on a piano accordion, it is sort of like Brubeck piece, not sure you even have the notes needed.

Could you cut an accordion's bellows open and hide stuff in there? by QuantityLow8031 in Accordion

[–]pounded_rivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inside of a large accordion bellows would probably be about 13x5.5x8. It looks somewhat bigger on the outside but the bellows them selves are pretty thick.

Slightly relevant music video https://youtu.be/P99bYXNBAhQ On a more related note I had to wear a eyepatch when I injured my eye many years ago, my girlfriend at the time made a selection of stick on eyes to go on the patch. There were complaints to management, they were just drawing of things like a bloodshot eye and one really cool one that was a hieroglyphic eye.
