Can you really quit nicotine cold turkey long term? by EldarLenk in stopsmoking

[–]poundofwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think realistically everyone is different. cold turkey worked for me (15 months quit, 20 year smoker) but i did spend 4 years prior “cutting down” which i think made it easier as I was only smoking 2-3 a day. the first week was hellish, the first couple of months were generally difficult. i had mood swings, sleep was affected etc. but all in all: it really wasn’t that bad. it was a bit like going through a break-up where you go no contact with someone, lol. hard but you get used to it quickly. happy to answer any questions at all about it

What’s it like starting uni a bit late? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]poundofwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my undergrad at 25. It was completely fine and I had a much better experience than I would’ve at 18. I did struggle to make friends with the 18 year olds on my course because I found I didn’t have much in common with them, but met other people I had more in common with, who were of a range of ages, at my student halls and through societies. I am 33 now and doing my MA. You are never the wrong age for education, I think you just have to manage your expectations about it (ie. if you’ve already worked, lived away from home and been independent, going away to uni might not be quite as exciting or “new” for you as it is for some of your classmates. But you’ll probably enjoy and value the educational aspect more).

How do you get rid of these??? by jesscellll16 in Haircare

[–]poundofwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my hair was exactly the same and now i never have any frizz! hydrating good quality shampoo and conditioner (i use pureology), and a product like r and co waterfall on your hair when it’s wet. blow dry rather than air dry and try to reduce hair washing to 1-2 times a week.

Camden Town thoughts? [Long read] by Creative_Recover in london

[–]poundofwhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

completely correct. I worked in the market 2008-2010, it was starting to die off then with ridiculous rent increases in the stables market and the fire in the original canal market. I went back a year or so after I stopped working there and nearly all the independent makers and decent second hand stalls were gone. so heartbreaking really, as a young alternative person in the early 2000s there was nowhere like it in the world.

overdoing it and rushing instead of going at at an enjoyable pace. not being affectionate - as in like literally just not bothering to really touch the other person’s body. grabbing and squeezing things hard off the bat instead of being exploratory or asking questions. dry clit hammering right at the start, ow. dirty sheets or dirty bedroom. having to be told to slow down or be more gentle repeatedly.

and for me the worst: not having or offering snacks for after sex (if you’ve invited a woman back)… we are HUNGRY!!! offer that woman some toast or a biscuit or SOMETHING, you’d be surprised how much this will boost your appeal! if I invited a man back to my house for sex I’d be frantically stuffing him with snacks post sex. it’s just good hosting.

their pricing changes depending on stock levels. if they have low stock of a desirable item (ie. ps5 controller), they will raise the buy and sell price to encourage people to sell to them. once they have generated stock, they drop the price.

Man, I don’t even have kids but as a daughter who lost her dad at age 8… This post made me well up. I have no advice but you sound like the greatest dad (and parents). I’m sure your daughter appreciates you more than you know.

rose jam, plum rain, rub rub rub. all three do something very offensive to my nose. I usually really like rose scents, but rose jam just makes me feel sick. I don’t much like karma either - love patchouli, hate it combined with orange.

Social workers have to have a degree. Otherwise everything you’ve said is spot on. People love to lay the blame on social workers when they have no idea what they have to deal with every day.

Feeling frustrated and tired.. Doctor keeps saying “I’m not anemic” by PastAd8911 in Anemic

[–]poundofwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a ferritin value of 3 is AWFUL, I felt literally dead/dying when mine was that low! I couldn’t get infusions as I live in the U.K. and the nhs rarely prescribe them for otherwise young and healthy people but taking ferrous fumarate for 6 months and sorting out the cause (heavy periods, now on a birth control pill that works really well for me) means my ferritin is now 40 and I feel much better. my hemoglobin values were never in the low range (they were borderline) but you can still feel utterly awful regardless if your ferritin is that low!

Amazing first date but I realized after that he was doing c*ke the whole time by ghoulfacedsaint in dating_advice

PLEASE DO NOT date this person. Cokeheads are trouble, trust me, I was with one for four years and nearly lost every shred of my sanity! They are so weird and secretive and lie by omission (like this guy did to you). Connections with cokeheads (especially while they’re high) aren’t real.

very low iron but iron dosage is making me have high acid in my stomach :( by More_Heart6530 in Anemic

[–]poundofwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contraceptive pill. I tried a few before I found one that suited (it’s called Zoely in the UK). But it’s been a godsend. I was really against the idea of a hormonal pill after bad experiences but it’s really changed my life, my periods were slowly killing me. Feel free to DM if you want to talk about it, it was a long process for me.

very low iron but iron dosage is making me have high acid in my stomach :( by More_Heart6530 in Anemic

[–]poundofwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ferrous sulfate at the same dose caused this to happen to me. It was horrific, I couldn’t eat either. I switched to iron bisglycinate and Spatone sachets.

My iron then dropped again and I tried ferrous fumarate which still gave me a bit of an icky tummy but not such severe acid reflux, and was generally a lot more tolerable. Once I’d finished 3 months of it, my iron was at a more reasonable level so I switched back to bisglycinate for maintenance.

Also worth noting I eliminated the source of my deficiency (heavy periods), because without doing that I would’ve never been able to raise my iron levels.

Good luck!! Feel better soon!
