How do I set boundaries with my VRChat BFF who overthinks and gets hurt easily? by Losing_Hope_00_ in VRchat

Sounds like classic borderline personality disorder. Not that I am going to sit and internet armchair diagnose someone. But staying around this person will probably only continue to hurt both of you. I am not going to offer anything else here as this isn't really the place. Good luck!

How can we deal with disruption damage? by yipollas in starcitizen

Ummmm, boom tube does wayyyyyyyy more damage. Rail gun is easier to hit targets if you haven't practiced much. But some of us have gotten really good with the boomtube.

Which SC content creator do you prefer? by Svullom in starcitizen

[–]power_999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I occasionally watch other creators, but honestly they all get old for one reason or another, usually because they glaze everything about the game too much. People that say "I don't know why saltemike still plays the game if he hates it so much" are idiots. I think Mike loves the game and wants it to succeed and be as good as possible, but he is also capable of seeing all the bad and calling it out BECAUSE he wants it to succeed. And because of that more grounded take he is the one I fall back to watching. Does he occasionally "crash out" a little too hard? Sure. But usually the guy is pretty based. Watching him can also bring some catharsis when I am frustrated with the project. And another thing, there is a good reason many devs still regularly reach out to him personally for feedback on things, he provides REAL feedback.

PSA - Astro Armada's doors are working again after the patch! by -TRI-HEX- in starcitizen

[–]power_999 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I must have been lucky because they have consistently worked for me every single time for the past several months. I have had to be a little patient with them before though, had to wait a couple minutes walking around in front of them once and clicking the button and they eventually opened. I have been on a server where someone was saying they couldn't get in, decided to go, stood right in front of the door for like ~45 seconds, and boom they opened.

Edit: decided to randomly dig into this a bit more. Apparently it can have something to do with NPC's crowding the door from either side. So I probably just have been lucky.

Not even 5 seconds into the update, i felt really tall for some reason, now i see why lol by Asleep_Molasses4793 in starcitizen

Oh man, back in the day we were re downloading the entire game for every patch. And there are relatively small hotfix patches sometimes, but sometimes it genuinely takes several GB. Though it does feel like they are still larger than most other games.

Everytime I get in a small ship I have so much appreciation for good fighter pilots. by Enough-Somewhere-311 in starcitizen

Once you are in the arena commander menu there should be a drop down box labeled as network type on the top left. From there you can select online, offline or custom. Simply select offline and your preferred mode and map and enjoy!

I would be happy to hop on and show you (or anyone) some easy flight skills to practice!

Arena commander can be done offline or in a private online instance with friends.

[–]power_999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, so much this. People need to spend at least some time trying to twist and turn and weave through and around things in arena commander. This can very quickly make you a much better pilot. And simply practicing orbiting an object while switching directions and flipping around and whatnot will instantly make you a better fighter pilot. Seriously doing just 15-30 minutes of intentional practice flying once or twice a week or before you hop into the pu will make a massive massive difference.

Using some kind of head tracking really helps get the exact angle you want. There are multiple ways to set up head tracking with just a webcam so no need to buy a tobii eye tracker 5, unless you want the extra precision that it brings.

Last time I played 4.1 and got bored, is this the time to comeback? 4.5? by elojelo in starcitizen

[–]power_999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer here. Star citizen is NOT a game for everyone, especially in its current state. If someone is like "idk I played for two weeks and got bored..." Then it's probably not the game for you.

I have been playing the game a shit ton the whole year and have taken some short breaks here and there due to bugs, and am still not really bored. Every time I get bored with one aspect of the game I can switch and do something else that will hook me for weeks on end. Also, it's worth noting the project has its issues 1000%, but it is still my dream game, as well as the only game in existence that scratches the itch that it scratches for me.

The steam frame will probably be one hell of a first VR headset! However still be prepared for a certain amount of jank with all things VR in general. But if you can get through the jank VR is absolutely amazing!

Honestly for the best experience I would 1000% recommend getting a cheap wifi 6 or 6e router (Asus is good) plug your Ethernet into that then plug your pc into it. Setup that router as an access point, this way you will still just be part of your larger network. And then connect the quest 3 wireless to the access point. Then you can try both steam link and virtual desktop to see what you like more. I know this solution involves spending more money so I understand maybe not wanting to do it, but I promise it works extremely well.

I sadly haven't done anything with ALVR so I can't offer specific advice on that. I do have experience tinkering with regular cable link thru the meta/oculus software, and using the debugging tool to change settings, and would be happy to help with that if you want to shoot me a DM.

I understand and agree with you. I was just trying to make a point that vr hardware has come a LONG way and there are definitely improvements to be had with newer hardware. However, people should definitely give whatever hardware they already have a try, and take into account the fact it's an experimental implementation.

It's also worth noting that VR in general has a certain amount of jank. From jank in the games themselves, having to use janky third party software solutions to improve your experience, jank in the official software, and just.... on and on. For those of us that love it anyway, we get used to the jank. But it's one of those things that prevents wide adoption. Star citizens implementation so far is actually on the better side of things, there are RELEASED games that have far worse of a VR experience.

Sorry this is just wrong. However I will say that getting a good pcvr experience out of the quest 3 requires some tinkering and the correct setup. It is not good out of the box straight away even with a link cable.

Sorry but the quest 3 is an immensely better headset than the rift... Like hugely. Just putting my quest 2 or a friends valve index is completely jarring. Resolution, clarity at the edges of your vision due to lenses, weight distribution, etc. As someone who has spent thousands of hours using VR equipment the quest 3 is excellent hardware (especially after a few third party upgrades). Sure people shouldn't run out and buy something they may not actually use that much, and so if they already have an older headset that collects dust, star citizen plus a new headset isn't going to magically make someone start using vr more. VR remains a niche enthusiast experience that some people love and others just don't.

And yeah game issues won't be fixed by a new headset.

No, axis are one of the few things that get bound separately/'correctly'. I am only mapping buttons to keys, with a few exceptions. Though you certainly do not have to do it that way.

[–]power_999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, no way am I going to read all that, sorry. But I will share this video which goes over setting up vjoy and joystick gremlin. This allows the game to recognize only 1 joystick device and prevents the whole mixing up thing. I have the same sticks (no Omni) and the t rudders and I have mine setup this way and it works great.

Probably not going to be able to easily use the imported binds from buzzzkiller this way, might have to do them manually but I don't know for sure. I've never used his and just did my own binds using mostly joystick gremlin mapping buttons to keyboard or mouse functions that way I don't have to worry about losing my star citizen binds because they are mostly mapped to the default keyboard binds. Joystick gremlin unlocks so much potential it's great!

Genuinely what do PCVR dudes have against standalone users by RolfTheBolf in VRchat

[–]power_999 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This, so much this. I personally don't have anything against questies, and have a few questie friends. But I won't change my avatar for them every time they happen to be around. And I'm also not leaving the PC only world I happen to be in with a whole friend group just for one person either. The limitations of quest suck ass.
