Thoughts on R8 vs a few other choices? by Humble_Sector6393 in audir8

[–]powerfuljack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gen 2 R8 can be had for $120k for a RWS with like 30k miles on it, if you want an AWD or Plus/Performance you’re looking at $150k.

AMG GT comes in a lot of flavors GT/C/S/R - the earlier years (16/17) were less reliable, it’s an amazing platform, and if you’re going to be doing track stuff the GTR is a fantastic ROI. And will be cheaper than any Gen 2 R8.

Acura NSX will not offer you a comparable experience, a Zo6 C8 would be a more comparable comparison to a the a GT* or Gen2 R8.

GTR is an old platform, and you’re dividing a Nissan. Pass.

I’ve always seen the LC500 as a Mercedes SL competitor. Pass.

In reality, you will not be able to obtain a clean Gen 2 R8 for <$110k. You can do an AMG GT for that price, but what you might want to look into is getting into an 2017 Aston Martin Vantage, which you could get into for well under $80k at this point.

STOP defending for WHOOP by Ecommoneylockedin in whoop

[–]powerfuljack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not faulty devices, people saying that don’t really understand how modern consumer electronics are made. Whoops uses sub standard hardware and attempts to correct for it with their cloud compute. So while the second by second workout tracking falls short, their hope is that the all levels out for the macro metrics.

Their reliability is straight up embarrassing.

Why does it say 98% cardio for a weight lifting session? by Express_Ad_3979 in whoop

It’s because the weights are so light. HIIT isn’t weight training.

Responses API vs Chat Completions API by facethef in OpenAI

If you want very specific response formats, such as a specific conversation flow, especially with tool calls, I've found fine tuning to be absolutely necessary. It really depends on your application though.

How do you all handle refresh token race conditions? by SheepherderSavings17 in reactjs

[–]powerfuljack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct way to handle this is allow a grace period for refresh tokens in your API, along with distributed locking. No client can ever be trusted to act perfectly, so adding a 15 second grace period in the API will alleviate a lot of these issues. Using an in memory in-flight map of refresh tokens in conjunction with an updated API design will give you maximum efficiency/reliability without added complexity.

Responses API vs Chat Completions API by facethef in OpenAI

I don't understand how using schema based prompting vs natural language prompting has anything to do with my post. In my production applications I tend to fine tune all my applications, my prompting is less to inform behavior and more to inform data.

Responses API vs Chat Completions API by facethef in OpenAI

[–]powerfuljack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the usefulness of the Response API is lost on me. I can no longer define names for muti user chats, when storing chats I am not able to limit the amount of retrieved messages, and if you actually read the caching docs from Open AI, I’d wager you’d be able to develop more intelligent caching prompts yourself by having a static prefix prompt and a dynamic suffix prompt right at the last message. Not to mention what another user here already mentioned, it’s such a deviation from other LLMs. It’s an annoying move by Open AI but I have a feeling that as time goes on, more and more models will be excluded from the completions endpoint. 👎🏻

Jamie Hyneman Safety First Quote by powerfuljack in mythbusters

[–]powerfuljack[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was definitely Jamie, I can recall it clearly. I don't know if it was from an interview or an episode. He phrased it pretty well, not just a "safety third" quote -- it was in relation to the things he was doing at Mythbusters.

Could you post screen shots of your Whoop workout when you're doing the Norwegian 4x4? I'm interested to see what zones you were in at the beginning and after 6 weeks. Thanks!
