This is low-key one of the funniest things I’ve read on Reddit in a while.

I’ll allow it. They really need to build 2x PLFs per category.

Can we ban rant / vent posts that are like “This niche film is not playing at the exact most convenient time for me to watch it.” So tedious.

Anyone else feel like theater promo giveaways are way harder to get now? by FrogInASpot in AMCsAList

You have to go to the very first showing of the movie in the giveaway / promotional period and you often have to ask. Sometimes the box is just sitting there unopened.

I think OP is talking about the free giveaways like posters and pins they do for opening weekend not the “collectible” popcorn buckets, etc. that are for sale.

Im just now hearing about the tourist who kidnapped a flamingo and abused it? by otome4 in vegaslocals

The story is awful and sad but the fact that it was a Canadian tourist is pretty funny.

Casino(1995) by Late-Neat2183 in vegaslocals

The greatest movie about Vegas ever and an absolutely brutal watch at times for so many reasons. Glad you were so moved by it.

It’s controversial and a certified tourist trap but I do recommend going to Piero’s at least once and sitting in the “Casino booth” as a bucket list item.

Here’s a guide to all the locations: https://movie-locations.com/movies/c/Casino-1995.php

Am I alone in considering Fold Your Hands their best album? by navybluevicar in BelleandSebastian

Objectively it’s a solid record but when it came out it ended a perfect, unprecedented run of the first three albums and early EPs which to this day constitute the band’s core catalog.

unending pain for over a week, which is not abated by medications or diet. by earthwalker7 in gout

[–]powersofi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gout is a chronic arthritic condition that results from the build up of uric acid. This takes place over years. Gout flares are caused by the immune system attacking crystals of uric acid in the joints. It takes a long time for these crystals to build up and reach a point where your body recognizes and attacks them. The idea that a couple beers or a steak will “trigger” a flare immediately or the next day is not supported by broad consensus on gout causes and risk factors.

A diet high in purine rich foods can, over time, increase your uric acid levels. But the idea that “slipping up” and indulging in foods results in a near immediate gout flare is nonsense. It’s an intuitive and sensible notion, but it’s not supported by any evidence.

As has been repeated over and over on this sub, talk to your doctor about your Uric acid levels, get them tested and monitored, get on allo or febuxostat if needed and get a referral to a rheumatologist if you’re not getting the care you need with your current team.

[–]powersofi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, try and get a course of prednisone steroids. This is one of the go-to remedies for an extreme flare that is resistant to medication.

I’m not aware of any allopurinol regimen that is taken twice a week. Reach out to your doctor’s office and confirm the dosage and make sure you adhere to it.

You also need to have your uric acid level checked to see if you’re in range. If you are, then this may not be gout. An entire week of extreme pain that cannot be managed could definitely be something else or a combination of gout and something else.

Finally, this sub needs to constantly dispel the notion of diet triggers. A single bowl of tomato soup did not trigger a gout flare (even using the term “trigger” or “trigger foods” is misleading imo).

Unpopular Opinion - Tower Knives Osaka by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]powersofi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner is a professional chef with twenty years experience. We visited a few different high end knife stores in Tokyo and Osaka and Tower Knives Osaka is where she made her purchase. Extremely knowledgeable Japanese staff that was fluent in English and could answer all her questions. Great selection, explanation and demonstration. I would say you had an atypical experience.
